I am looking for a simple screensaver for my mac. I need something transparent - so I can still see what is going on on my desktop, but have password lock active.
I found transparent 2.2 which does exactly what I want but there is no way I will give 10� for a screensaver.
Besides installing Parallels, is there any way to run a simple .exe file on a Mac?
View 13 Replies View RelatedThe Quicktime Player that was included with my MAC doesn't work very well for me. When it loads into the browser there is no way to resize it so all you get are tiny movies on my nice big monitor. Also, it doesn't play WMV (it just downloads the file and shows it as a text file). I'm used to WMP playing everything that I needed. Is there a simple movie player that I could use on the MAC?

Or do I have to go threw a specific transfer process with the mac? I just want the music files, and album artwork. View 1 Replies View RelatedThis has been asked in other forms, but this is a bit different (I think): I am looking for budgeting software, but not to manage my checking accounts or savings accounts, etc. Really, I just want to plug in numbers for my expenses, credit card totals and interest rates and minimum payments, car payment and total; etc. Then I want it to crank out the best way to pay all of this stuff. Most of what I see are programs that first and foremost tell me what I am spending money on. I already know that. Any simple, straightforward budgeting software along these lines?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI love my new mac mini but I miss paint. I used it alot for simple editing, such as resizing an image, cutting in it and maybe add some text.. stuff like that. I cant really find another program that does the same things in a quick and simple way.
also, how the hell do I take a snapshot of the screen when there's no print screen button?
I know, I know... iTunes is the end all, be all for mac users as far as music players go. But I don't like to use iTunes all the time... there are times when I download a bunch of music and just don't have time to organize it and make sure it's tagged correctly, so I don't wanna add it to my iTunes library just yet...
so I am wondering, is there any other good music players out there that you might know of? I don't need it to go ahead and organize my music, I just need it to be able to open individual tracks or music off a folder and play it. A player with an appealing UI and shuffle mode would be ideal. I tried Vox btw, but it's kinda ugly though.
I am having a party in a couple of weeks and I was looking for a application that lets me mix songs. sort of like what DJ's have but it doesn't have to be too high tech or complicated to use.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am trying to sync a folder on my desktop with a folder on a USB drive. Simple, right?
I have seen several programs that (may) do this, but all of the ones that I have seen are $30-$40. I have found several free programs that do something like what I want it to do, but miss the mark by "that much" (for example, Transmit will sync, but only with a network drive). The closest I found was an Automator action, but for some reason the synced items were three seconds apart from each other, so every time it would just re-sync the entire folder (which defeats the purpose).
Are there any free programs that will do a simple sync between two folders?
My ISP has a cap of just 10gb per month (ridiculous I know) and im sure im going over it.
Ive had a quick google but cant seem to find a way of monitoring how much im downloading in total, including all web browsing/video streaming etc etc. Anyone know of an app or widget (preferably free)?
I am trying to create a simple yearbook layout - looking for a template - and various searches have turned up a suggestion to the yearbook template option in iPhoto. I am running iPhoto '08 and cannot find a template for a yearbook. Is it not included with this year? I also run inDesign so if any knows of a template I can use it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know there is dream weaver out there but I am not that well versed in using yet. I need something that is like Iweb 09 but will work better. It appears that when you create something in Iweb 09 and let's say it's [URL] it will make the home page this: [URL]
It seems like iweb adds on the extra extentension on the end. I also notice that Iweb when you save the program to a server the site takes forever to load and I think it has something to do with the size of the file or site. not sure.
What I like about Iweb is the drag and drop feature with text box and so on. Is there a program out there where I am not paying a monthly service charge to use a program that is loaded on a server? I understand I have hosting fees by the way.
So any programs out there that are mac friendly and has a user friendly interface?
So I'm working this job where I need to keep track of my hours. I have rows of 4 columns. A is just the date and other random task info. B is the starting time, C is the ending time and D should be how many hours I worked on that particular day. The only problem is, I can't for the life of me figure out how to get Numbers to add up my hours automatically!! The SUM function just gives me the red triangle of WTF. It's probably something really simple but this is my first attempt at spread sheeting so easy on me.

I have a variety of operations that would become immensely easier to do if I could create a CSV file, for example, in Excel or Open Office and then just import that into iCal, rather than sit there and type each item individually.I have both event data and tasks that I need to do bulk imports for.
I've searched high and low and most of what I find involves importing CSV into other applications and then exporting it to VCal files before finally bringing the data into iCal.There has to be a simpler way.

I have just purchased a MacBook Pro and need advice as to the best way to use my external hard drive with iTunes.I have read previous answers regarding the above question, however I do not currently have any music on my new iTunes and it is already all on my external hard drive. That's with greater than and less than character at the start and end of it. It messes up the reply address.
When I reply to one of these emails Mail.app sets the "To:" field to be:
"person@company.co.uk> <person@company.co.uk" <person@company.co.uk>
When it should just be:
To: person@company.co.uk
Anybody get this behaviour?
Incidentally, you can search for these kinds of simple emails in Mail.app by searching in "All Mailboxes"/"From" for:

With all the excitement around the $79 price of Aperture on the new mac app store, I'm thinking about getting it, but wondering if I can then ditch iPhoto? I looked at Apple's website about Aperture and see that it seems to be iPhoto+ with all the features of iPhoto plus more. But I'm wondering about the integration of it with iOS devices, etc. If I move everything to Aperture, will I still be able to use photos in my mac's screensaver, or on my Apple TV, or sync to my iPhone....all of these seem to tie to iPhoto, but if you install Aperture, do they then work with it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am really really dying inside since upgrading to Snow Leopard because my screensavers are....*sobs* DEAD! or at least the only one that I used to love, Fenetres Volants.
So since then I've been using some default screensavers and looking for a replacement.
What I want is a black background with scrolling text. Sadly, there are too many wunnabe 1337 kids that fell in love with escaping to the Matrix where the junior high bullies can't hurt them so all Google results yield ching-chonganese text falling. What I really want is a screensaver that looks like it's running a command line level operation.
I want to create a simple flash movie (I don't yet own or know how to use Adobe Flash). Pretty flowers in the background, inspirational music, passages from the Bible or something fading in an out... you know the schtick. Maybe convert it to a screen saver.
