I have a mac powerbook g3 laptop and have successfully installed Virtual PC on. My problem is that when I open Virtual PC it just comes up with a black Virtual PC programme window. Once its done that I am unable to do any thing with Virtual PC because its frozen and in order to get out of the programme I have to force quit it. What do I do to get it to run windows 98? (I have both the Virtual PC disk and the windows 98 disk).
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is the setup: I have a MBA (13", 4G, 250GB) runing with Lion (upgraded from snow leopard). I need to install windows XP in VB (yes, it must be XP). I have already installed it in my iMac and had no problem at all. While doing it on my iMac I only had to select my cd/DVD unit to run the installation CD and it all worked fine. As we all know the MBA has no cd unit (and no, I have no Superdrive) so I can't use the same path. I've tried accessing it through the remote disk, but once I get into the pop up window, I can only search for .iso, .cdr or .dmg files. The next step I have taken is to create an image of the original CD. I have done it by: going to Disk utility, "new", chosen the CD, create a DVD/cd master... that created a .cdr document. Then through the Terminal I did convert this .cdr into a .iso using hdiutil. Finally I have run VB and... it keeps on telling me <<Fatal: No bootable medium found! System halted.>>

I have a few relatively light-weight Windows-only programs that I need to start using on my Macbook Pro. I'm deciding whether to install them on Bootcamp or use VM Ware Fusion.A couple questions please1) To use Windows with Bootcamp, do I need to install Windows XP on Bootcamp?2) What is your opinion? Go with Bootcamp, or install a virtual machine? I am aware that Bootcamp requires a restart to return to my Mac - and that programs will work faster on Bootcamp over a virtual machine.3) But what if I installed BOTH (Bootcamp and a virtual machine using VM Ware Fusion) just until I figure out what I prefer? Does that mean that two separate instances of Windows XP installation will occur on my hard drive?

When I put in the disk and it says "The package requires a newer version of Windows Installer. Would you like to update?" I say yes and it says "The requires resoruce update is missing." and if I click no it says "The operation is aborted." or something.

I dont want to install Windows Vista SP1 just because of that video and I want to know which version could give me even better performance. Both official and unofficial windows versions of XP, 7 and vista are under consideration. I dont need windows for anything else, just for playing a couple of games.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use Parallels to create a virtual PC running Windows 7. I have installed Office 2010 on the PC side and Office 2011 on the Mac. All VBA works fine on the PC side, but bombs on the Mac. It was my understanding (directly from Apple) that with the release of Office 2011 for the Mac that all code was now conforming with the PC version. This is probably true for new code written under Office 2010 (PC), however, most all of my applications have been developed over time through many versions of Windows based software (probably the last 10 years)…to date I have never had an issue with compatibility (on the Windows side). I have done some online research into the errors that I receive, however I am really an novice/intermediate programmer and am unable to find adequate solutions to the initial problems (as shown below).
Once I receive the run-time error 1004 I use the debug feature, etc. and end with "Can't find project or library. The initial error is probably just the beginning, but I am unable to go forward from this point.

I am getting following error after opening Ooo (Open Office org) "The application “OpenOffice.org” was forced to quit while trying to restore its windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again?" And nothing is happening after pressing both available button "Restore Windows" or "Don't Restore Windows". Even when i am trying to shot down my system Ooo stops me for doing that.I have to force quite it before restarting/shutting down my system. Nothing is happening when i am trying to opening any doc or xls file i am getting same window every time. I have also tried to install new updated version of Ooo, but problem still exist.
Steps I followed.
1- Selecte OOo from application list and Make move to trash.
2- Selecte OOo folder from /Users/Fauad/Library/Application Support and make move to trash.
3- Empty the trash.
4- Install OOo new version.
5- Run it
I have read post about command for terminal like rm -rf .DS_Store i have tried running it in Appplication, Library/Application support, or on Desktop as well but nothing changed. As far as i remember the problem is because i have forced quite all open application before shtting down my system.
In order to install Windows 7 via bootcamp, do you have to use the full version of windows or can you use the upgrade disc to install? I figured I should ask before buying another license as I have an upgrade version of Windows 7 Pro that I don't use. I do own previous versions of Windows (all of them....just like I do Mac OS).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Virtual PC on my G5 powermac running Leopard, but the capture disk doesn't show. I've contacted Microsoft and they said that they cannot help as the last supported version of VPC 7 is when it is installed on Tiger. I then tried to downgrade to Tiger but when I insert the installation disk that is for my G5 I get a prohibitive sign and it won't let me go any further.
Has anyone got any suggestions on what I can do. I just want my Mac to be able to run VPC 7 so that I can run some essential (for my work)PC software.
so this is me first ever post on this forum, so to get to the point.

I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro, just that you guys know. For my programming work with the robot (C/Assembler) I will need either Windows or a Linux OS. This is why I'm asking. I really hate Windows and I don't want to install that and besides, Linux is a much better option for compiling my code, etc..Should I use a virtual machine or should I install Linux (Ubuntu) on another partition of my internal HDD.
I will need to install quite a lot of stuff and I'm not sure whether my 4GB of RAM will be enough to run Ubuntu on top of Snow Leopard using a virtual machine. I will need to use another old computer or my parent's desktop for loading to compiled files onto the robot (my IR Tranceiver has a RS 232 connector). I have another old laptop which we commonly use as a 'tryout' computer, but for the most part I want my MacBook to be the computer I use because I cannot take that old (and really heavy) laptop with barely working batteries and super-laggy Win XP to school, where I will do a great deal of the work. So I definitely want Linux on my mac.The partition can be small, I will only need about 15-20GB of space (including the Linux).

I have a Macbook Unibody 2.4 and an iMac Aluminum 2.8 C2E. I just wanted to play around with Windows 7, not cause any serious issues, and just, you know, try it out; not do any serious testing. For my purposes, do you think Im better off downloaded the 64-bit of 32-bit version? And which computer will handle windows 7 better?

View 5 Replies View RelatedBut on the G5 next to it, I need to do some Windows testing. I managed pretty well with getting Parallels Window environments into a sandbox, just internet connectivity, access to the optical drives and one shared drive is perfect, and I want to achieve the same level of a sandbox in Virtual PC v7.
Background is, I've used VPC v3 on G3, v5 on my G4. Both of these were a dream (OK slow on the G3) but VPC 7 is required to run on my dual G5. From the manual I see it installs all kinds of intergration tools into the heart of the Mac OS (ouch), requires a restart (I restart about once every 3 months due to the amount of stuff I keep running). I can live with this, if I can be sure that I can turn off all the integration tools I don't want. From the manual I can see all the Application and Client OS Environment settings, some look as though they turn off unwanted features, but I would like to know from someone who used it, just how configurable it is into getting it into the proverbial sandbox.
