When I try to shut down or restart the system, it shows that I have to stop or cancel the operations in the finder? it shows that : The finder can't quit because some operations are still in progress. You can cancel or stop the operations ,and then try again.

I can't restart or shut down the mini, due to "operations still in progress." How do I workaround this problem? It seems to occur after I've done a Software Update. The only way I can shut down is with the power switch.

My computer stop responding so I had to force restart finder. Now my active programs indicator is not working. How do I get it to work again? I have tried shutting down my computer and that didn't work. I deleted and re-copied over the files, but that didn't work either.

Randomly the volume keys/brightness etc. stop working and i can't open apps or shut it down normally. This is a bit of an old one I know. When I turn my Mac on it goes through the boot up process and as it about to come to the desktop image it selects the HD Mac as if I had pressed it with the mouse and then starts the cancel sound bonging away until I press the escape button on the keyboard.This normally keeps it at bay. Although on occasion it suddenly selects it again and starts playing the cancel sound again. When I unplug the keyboard it doesn't make that sound at all. I hate the wireless keyboard but wonder if I buy another wired one will it start making the same noise again?

In Windows I would press tab in order to switch and highlight the other option and then ht enter to select it. What is the equivalent in OSX? It will be quicker than reaching for the mouse/trackpad sometimes.

It basically is like a power failure: straight to black, no warning, no reboot. Sometimes a very short beep/buzz occurs right as it dies. It seems to happen when I'm moving, holding, or have my hands resting on the computer, but not always. I've done the SMC and PRAM resets. I did a clean install of Lion. I just put in a new battery. I'm starting to think that it has to be the motherboard.

I was just in my room minding my own business and I heard my iMac "shut down" but nothing happened, and I'm still able to use it like normal as I type this message.It seemed to quiet down my fans though, they are still running but much quieter so I guess in a way its a good thing.I'm just curious as to what happened here.

I recently made a program go off the dock so that it doesn't bother me, and I also played with some SSH settings in /etc/sshd_config and /etc/services (specifically, the ones mentioned in Rule #4 of Mac Geekery's Basic Mac OS X Security article) and now my computer won't shut down, saying that Finder won't quit.
However, the little white arrow is not below the Finder icon in the Dock. Also my desktop items and top menu disappear. Once the "Logout timed out because Finder failed to quit" window pops up, I reopen finder from the Dock and everything comes back. I have tried manually quitting the hidden server application before shutdown, so I don't think it is that. By the way it is a Mac Book running OS X 10.5.4 which i bought new last august.
After reinstalling Snow Leopard (file system corruption, long story) and upgrading to 10.6.4, I noticed that any Finder windows I leave open when I shutdown or logout do not reappear/re-open on my next login. I was able to do this before the reinstall. I don't know how long my old install was corrupted, so I don't know if the windows staying around was caused by the corruption or not. Is this normal behavior or should they stay open?

I can't see all of the words in finder or even the apple icon to shut down the computer...it has stretched far off of the display.I tried the display settings in system preferences and tried to adjust settings in geometry I can adjust the height but not the width.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy itunes lags with most operations. The most annoying is when I click a track in my library, it lags for like 3 seconds, I get a pinwheel, then the track plays. Sometimes the seek bar lags a lot. Opening the "info" for a track is very slow and invokes the pinwheel to peek its head out. Editing the info and having to write it to the tag is even worse. Adding new music is very slow, as the gapless, and album art, and other info that itunes collects each are very slow, and make the rest of iTunes almost impossible to use. Tracks don't skip or anything once they start playing, and theres no lag if I just let the tracks play through. I've disabled last.fm because I know that causes lag problems with the "fingerprinting" it does. When I added 3500 songs it took hours for all the scans to complete.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an extensive collection of fonts (60,0000+). Several hundred of them will crash my system when I open one of them in Finder (double-click the suitcase). I picked one at random for some serious examination. I looked at my sample with many font tools. My latest tool was FontDoctor (v5 and v7). FontDoctor reported "no problems found" with my font. Yet the crash persists. Any tool that can do a thorough job of investigating and repairing my corrupt fonts.

Crash - why does my mac do this in the attachments, the screen goes black with a colour strip and sometimes the speakers screech, it seems to be quite intermittent, but some operations increase the likelihood of occurrence.

How do I figure out what all this "other" material is? I thought it was due to a lack of memory after upgrading to Lion, but it has been getting dramatically worse, which doesn't seem like a memory issue to me.

I've set up my MB to mount several NAS volumes that I need frequent access to (my documents and photos, for example) on boot up by first connecting to the server and then adding those servers to the "Login Items" list in my account. This caused finder windows for each of these NAS volumes to "pollute" my desktop with every boot. I therefore checked the "hide" checkbox on the list . . . but that hasn't stopped them from opening.

I believe that I shut down my macbook but was mistaken and it did not shut down completely. The next day I opened it up and the screen wouldn't turn on like it usually does after simply being closed without powering down. I wasn't around to use it till a day later, being today, and I thought it was just a low battery problem. Now the battery is fully charged and yet it is still in the same state.
There is one light on but it is not bright like it is when sleep mode is not taking place. Also, it sounds like its running; I can hear the fan running but both the keyboard and screen are refusing to turn on. I don't use any plug in devices like a mouse, the only things I plug in are the battery charger and my IPod.
I have a MacBook Air and I want to stop my photos from showing up in the Allfiles in the Finder. I have saved them to a file in iPhoto and yet they still show up in Allfiles and not in Allfiles in the folder that was created for them! What can I do to stop this from happening.
