OS X :: Cancel Or Continue Options In System - Quicker Than Reaching For The Mouse Trackpad?
Jan 7, 2009
When I get a window popping up with an option e.g. do you want to delete this file etc. One option is highlighted (blue in my case) and the other not. In Windows I would press tab in order to switch and highlight the other option and then ht enter to select it. What is the equivalent in OSX? It will be quicker than reaching for the mouse/trackpad sometimes.

This is a bit of an old one I know. When I turn my Mac on it goes through the boot up process and as it about to come to the desktop image it selects the HD Mac as if I had pressed it with the mouse and then starts the cancel sound bonging away until I press the escape button on the keyboard. This normally keeps it at bay. Although on occasion it suddenly selects it again and starts playing the cancel sound again. When I unplug the keyboard it doesn't make that sound at all. I hate the wireless keyboard but wonder if I buy another wired one will it start making the same noise again?

When I try to shut down or restart the system, it shows that I have to stop or cancel the operations in the finder? it shows that : The finder can't quit because some operations are still in progress. You can cancel or stop the operations ,and then try again.

I've been using Lion long enough now that it feels normal. I just got interested in organizing things using multiple desktops and started reading about how things work. I continue to see references to a 'three-fingered-swipe'. My older macbook doesn't seem to know what this is. I check Preferences for Trackpad and it doesn't have most of the options mentioned in various posts I've seen. Is this because my macbook is too old and the hardware doesn't support it?

Basically, after the fans rev up to 6200rpm, the rpm stays there and never comes down, even after the computer is sitting idle for awhile. I installed the smc update and am using coolbook to try to avoid core shutdowns. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm going to try replacing the thermal glue tomorrow, to see if that helps, but it seems somehow unrelated to me. I'm using smcfancontrol to monitor the rpm of fans.

I recently upgraded to Leopard. My boss just informed me that my email signature does not show up when he receives mail from me. When I BCC myself, the signature is there. I have done a short experiment with my friends and about 50% don't see my signature.

I got my new MacBook Late 2008 and I'm looking for the option, that the trackpad gets turned off when a mouse is connected. But this feature got removed on the new Macbooks. But I still want this feature. Is there a command in Terminal to enable this option anyway?

On snow leopard with my early 2008 mbp and it seems with 64 bit on, battery life is getting eaten quicker.
Can't really compare though as I haven't used it much with 32 bit.

I just got my new $599 Mac Mini hooked up tonight. Wow. This thing is fast considering I still have only the 1GB of memory in it. For regular stuff, it feels as fast as my 2.4 GHZ iMac with 4GB of memory and normal speed hard drive.
Anyway, it works pretty good with my TV.
However, what type of keyboard or mouse do you recommend? Right now I'm having to use my powerbook to control it, using teleport along with a wired keyboard and mouse plugged into the back, hidden, just so it doesn't complain about not having one.
I don't know if I should go with the two Apple products, keyboard and mouse.
OR should I get a keyboard with a built in trackpad, since I will mainly be using it on the couch. What do you recommend?

I currently use a Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan with my Mac Mini. Worked great and I have always liked trackballs due to limited desk space required. It has been acting up the last couple of days. New batteries will not help. Reconnecting to the base does not always help. It is just starting to get frustrating.I do not use the Mac Mini very often. I got it originally as my iTunes "server" for my Apple TV. However, I have found it a great companion when doing research for work while I have my work computer doing other things.I have experience with the MBP trackpad since I picked up a new 17" i7 MBP earlier this summer. I really like it a lot.

bought an apple mouse and it won't connect, but reading on the forums the scroll click won't work anyways. and to be honest i wasn't happy about spending $75 on a mouse.
can i buy any windows mouse to run on it? i'd assume yes but want to verify. what i need is a mouse with the center scroll click to grab objects in pro/e to rotate them, which i can't do right now and its making things more difficult than it should. suggestions on mouses, or ones that you know do or don't work. does not matter if its wireless or wired. and if i can be picky preferably black.

I got a Magic Mouse. Which would be awesome, except that my MacBook won't recognize that it's a Magic Mouse. I installed the Wireless Mouse Update 1.0 from Apple and restarted my system (Leeopard). I then followed the instructions in the Quick Start guide for switching from a USB mouse to a Magic Mouse, which are as follows:
1) Slide the On/Off switch on the bottom of your Apple Magic Mouse to turn it on. No problems so far.
2) Choose Apple () > System Preferences, and then click Mouse. Still going fine.
3) Click "Set Up Bluetooth Mouse..." in the lower-right corner. Easy peasy.
4) Select your mouse, and then follow the onscreen instructions to pair it with your Mac. This is where the problems start. It shows up as "Apple Wireless Mouse," so I click the "Continue" button, but no onscreen instructions appear. It just kicks me back to the Mouse preference pane, with the same options as before. Aren't I supposed to get a pane with Magic-Mouse-specific options?
Also, MagicPrefs doesn't recognize that there is a Magic Mouse connected. The mouse works, I can click and move the cursor and everything, but the system doesn't seem to recognize that it's a Magic Mouse.

I am currently using the Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse at the same time and finding it to be a good setup. However there is one minor annoyance, they are both paired and recognised by the mac but I always have to go into bluetooth prefs and connect to the mouse whereas the pad connects automatically. Is there any way to make the mac auto connect to both devices at the same time to avoid this?

I recently got a preowned iMac which came with the Apple Wired Keyboard (with numeric keypad) and a Logitech mouse. Ive always been a fan of the idea of the Mighty Mouse even although it is old, the Magic Mouse looks really classy and cool but I do do a lot of graphic design and I am on the Mac quite a lot and I have heard it can get rather uncomfortable. And the Magic Trackpad, I am honestly not too sure about at all, what do you guys think would be best for me? I am a new Mac user so I am unsure what would be best for different features, thanks

After many years of using a PeeCee for my personal machine, I've switched over to Mac. I've never been a fan of trackpads for pointers/mice until I purchased my uMBP (2 weeks ago today). The MBP trackpad is the first trackpad I've used and liked.
I have played with the magic mouse a few times, and I just don't like the operation of it. It's too low to the desktop and I'd prefer something that is stationary for "mousing"...
Is there a good trackpad alternative for the desktops that uses identical gestures to the uMBP trackpad? I've seen the Wacom Bamboo family and see that they support gestures -- but I don't know if the gestures are identical between something like this and the uMBPs trackpad.
