My hard drive crashed and i ended up replacing it. I had downloaded LION OS from the app store and know i would like to re-install on my new hard drive.
Info:iMac (24-inch Mid 2007), LION OS
After backing up my data and then swiping my hard drive using Disk Utility, my OS seems to have been uninstalled as well. Is there a way to recover the deleted information and go back to the last working configuration? I'm on a MBP IC2D 2.16 w/ Lion.
View 3 Replies View Relatedim ordering my MBP 17" i7 online and im at the hard drive step that being said, if i get a normal hdd and when i get it and put a new SSD inside do i have to re-install the os? and does the disk come with it?
basically if i put the sdd in is it plug-n-play or do i need to re-install everything and buy a fresh mac osx disc?
but I have a Mac Pro 2008 that when I verify disk, I get an error saying I need to start up from the OS X install disc and run disk utility on it to fix errors. I've done that, it says it fixes errors, but back in the OS, it will give me same error again and say I need to run disk utility from the install disc.
So, my question is, I can reinstall the OS from my Snow Leopard disc, but I really don't want to... it's my freelance machine and I don't want to have to reinstall all of my applications (that can take years to install all discs, updates and media), scripts, plug-ins, media archives, etc.
Any advice on a way to fix disk errors like this without having to go back to all your install discs? I'm at work now so I can't remember the exact disk error, but I can post tonight if this can better direct me to a specific program/procedure that might help. I also haven't tried verifying disk from another admin account... which I can also try... just figured it seemed like a system-wide problem.
I have never had this problem before: I deleted Bootcamp partition. Repaired my hard disk and then erased my hard drive. Now I am trying to reinstall Snow Leopard and after the install starts it says: 35 minutes remaining" for about 5 minutes. Then it goes to a screen that says: "Install Failed: Mac OSX could not be installed on your computer. The Installer could not copy the necessary support files. Click Restart to restart your computer and try installing again." I tried restarting and installing and I get the exact same situation. I am not sure what is going on here. This MBP is less than 6 months old and this is the 1st time I have tried a reinstall on this particular machine.

View 8 Replies View RelatedA friend brought his new 15" Macbook Pro to me after trying to install Boot Camp and Windows XP. He said that he made a second partition for Windows; however, the drive showed only one partition formatted with NTFS. I tried reinstalling mac os using the disk that came with the laptop. When it came time to choose the destination drive, none showed up. I then went to Disk Utility. The drive and the volume showed up in the left panel but I could not Erase or do anything else - all the options were grayed out. With no firewire port I am also unable to use target mode.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do I reinstall Mac OS X after the hard drive has been replaced? I had an authorized Apple repair facility replace the hard drive on my IMac when the original drive died. I have the Mac OS X Install DVD which says "To start up from Mac OS X, hold down the C key as the computer starts up." I've tried that and all I get is a folder icon with a question mark on it. I'm guessing that's because I don't have the the OS installed to start from. How do I get the OS X installed?

I have been having awesome experience using OS X and Xp at the same time! But lately when I try to run the games on VMware... its starting to lack in graphics and memory. So, I was thinking of installing bootcamp. My first question is will I have stuff that I have installed in VMware Xp in Xp installed on Bootcamp? Secondly, if bootcamp is partitioning the HD then is that mean when I want to reinstall the OS X and wipe the HD will I only have the part that had OS X? Sorry I am pretty new to Mac and I never was brave enough to install xp on Bootcamp xD.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm selling my old Powerbook G4. Before I let it go, I want to wipe the hard drive and reinstall OS 10.4. I also would like to run disk first aid because I suspect there may be some corruption. The problem: I still have the original system install DVDs that came with the laptop, but the DVD drive no longer works. It just spins the disks for a bit then spits them back out. I do have an external USB hard drive with plenty of free space. Is there a way I can copy the install DVDs (there's a Disc 1 and Disc 2) to the external hard drive, then boot from that drive and treat it like I'm installing from the DVDs? I also have my new MacBook Pro with a working DVD drive. Can I make my Powerbook boot from a CD in the MacBook's drive? If not, how else can I wipe my system and reinstall the OS without a working DVD drive?

I recently upgraded the HDD on my MBP and did a clone from my previous HD which had Lion installed. However I've now noticed my new drive does not include the Recovery HD. Is there an easy way to re-install the Recovery HD to my drive without messing with my entire install/system contents? I made a Lion boot-disk on a USB key so I have access to that. I normally do a clean install for all my installs and would love to avoid wiping my HD reinstalling all of lion, just to get the recovery disk.

I want to potentially upgrade my hard drive from the measly 160GB to something with more space, more current, and hopefully faster. I've been doing my homework, and the only thing that scares me is the OS. I don't want to clone my harddrive as I would love to start new. I have back ups, so anything important can be transferred, but I would really like a clean slate. That would mean installing the OS from scratch. Can I use the boot disc I made with the Lion installer to install Lion on the new drive directly? I bought my MacBook Pro with Leopard installed, and later that summer installed Snow Leopard, then last summer upgraded to Lion. I don't have the Snow Leopard discs anymore, but I wouldn't want to install each after the other. How do I go about installing that? If I have a brand new drive, there theoretically won't be anything on it, so when I get that in and turn on the computer, what will happen? Will it tell me to do something?

View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I went to plug in my Lacie 250 GB USB external hard drive into my 13 in. MacBook to get a shirt template for a design I am making. I discovered that the hard drive just would not mount and show on the desktop, and I remembered that this happened a few days before, but all I did was unplug it and plug it back in, and it worked... except that today, that didn't work at all. I tried the other USB port, and the hard drive showed up on the desktop for about a second, and then disappeared. I kept on replugging it back into both USB ports, but nothing happened.
Then I tried to see if it would work on the PC beside me, and it was recognized as an external device; however, a message came up telling me the drive was malfunctioning. I am guessing this is from ejecting it incorrectly (because I am in a hurry to head to my next classes...I use this laptop at school), but I have incorrectly disconnected it before in the past and this problem never happened to me before.
Every single project I have ever created for my design career is on that hard drive, and all I want now is to get my files back. All I need it to do is show up on the desktop for just the right amount of time for me to copy my files onto my computer.
I read online to put it into the freezer for a while and it should mount, but that didn't work. I tried using Disk Warrior, Data Rescue 3, and Tech Tool Deluxe, but the hard drive did not show up on any of those apps.I tried plugging the hard drive into an iMac as well, but it did not show up either.
Got a new MBP last month to replace my white MacBook - loving it as an upgrade but one gripe - if I'm sat using it on my knee I regularly hear the "click" type noise of what I imagine is the protection of the hard drive because it thinks it is being dropped.
I never heard this on my old Mac and while it's not a huge issue it is a bit disconcerting, as though I'm being told off for moving it in a fairly responsible way.
My PowerBook G4 (Alum) died. I've had it for 4 years, taken it with me to Alaska and all over the lower 48, and have had nothing but happy experiences. I knew she was gonna go, but I was hoping she'd hold on until I could afford a MacBook. Alas, no. The problem appears to be the ability of the logic board to communicate with the hard drive. I can hear the HD spin, but even with Disk Warrior, I cannot locate it. The Mac Geniuses at my local Apple store confirmed this and gave me a shoulder to cry on. I've run Disk Warrior, Disk Utility, and tried finding it using the target disk mode - no luck.
The problem is that I've got 4 years of teaching materials, 6000 songs, and irreplaceable pictures on the HD, so I can't bring myself to just trash it. It's true that you only fail to back up you stuff once. This is my once. I've heard that with PC hard drives, you can just drop the old HD into a USB HD box and use it as an external HD. I can't afford professional data retrevial, and I want to give this option a try if it'll work with a Mac HD. Any ideas or suggestions?
How do i play media files from my external hard drive without transferring the files to my mac hard drive? I have a lot of media files and want to be able to play them soley from my external hard drive.Â

I want to erase everything on my hard drive as I want to give it away to someone. It has Lion on it. Â

This is not as simple as the question implies, I had created a partition because of my account/hard drive/whatever screwing up (its a long story). In the end, I have a partition so that I have 2 half sized drives. But I deleted the old, damaged partition and now I just have my current one with half taken up by 'free space'. Here is a screenshot of what I'm presented with: [URL]. My issue is that I cant resize my hard drive partition even though there's loads of space. So my 500GB drive has a 250GB partition and then 250GB of free space that I cant use!
