OS X V10.7 Lion :: Reinstall Recovery HD To Cloned Drive?
Feb 16, 2012
I recently upgraded the HDD on my MBP and did a clone from my previous HD which had Lion installed. However I've now noticed my new drive does not include the Recovery HD. Is there an easy way to re-install the Recovery HD to my drive without messing with my entire install/system contents? I made a Lion boot-disk on a USB key so I have access to that. I normally do a clean install for all my installs and would love to avoid wiping my HD reinstalling all of lion, just to get the recovery disk.

I accidently deleted some file on my computer that wouldn't let me start up my MacBook pro, 13 Inch, so I had to press Command- R at start up (brought me to Lion Recovery) and I choose reinstall lion and I started it yesterday morning and all day and over night. It's barely half way through and it says "148 Hours Left" which is crazy.. Should I just wait? is this normal? what do I do?

The Macbook of a friend of mine doe not boot anymore after an abordet Itunes-Upadte yesterday evenig. How ever, the Save-Boot-Log tells me, that
"The System bootstrapper has crashed: Trace/BPT trap: 5" I assume that i have to reinstall OS X to get the Macbook run again. This is where i'm sure, whether the Install via Recovery-Partition -> Reinstall Lion does a complete Clean-Install (all Data that's been on the HDD will be gone) or does "only" some Repair-Install-Stuff which preserve the personal Data and Software on the HDD. Nevertheless i'm going to Backup (CCC) the broken installation to be on the safe side anyway.

My MacBook pro started to throw frequent program crashes. I cannot nail this down to a specific program. I've repaired permissions, checked RAM with remember, even re-installed using internet recovery.

Bought a used 2011 iMac. Wanted to wipe everything clean from previous user and install lion. After installing lion I went into the recovery mode by pressing apple r, then wiped the harddrive clean, and now am trying to reinstall lion over the internet. At first it was working fine, eta was 90 mins. When it got down to 4 mins it suddenly went back up to 90 mins and has been stuck there for 5 hours. The computer is not frozen since I can move the mouse and everything.

I just bought a refurbished 2.66 Ghz Imac with a decidated graphics card (ATI) rather than get the newer 2.66Ghz version (early 2009) with the Nvidia intergrated card. Since I did that...the refurbished computer comes with Ilife 08 and I have ILife 09 installed on my old computer which I cloned to an external drive so that I can migrate my info over to the new one. I had bought the Mac Box set (Leopard, Ilife 09, Iwork 09) a while back and and can't find the Ilife 09 disc. Is it possible for me to migrate Ilife 09 over to my new refurbished computer that has the old Ilife 08 on it? or do I ave to buy Ilife 09 again?

I'm trying to install XP on my Macbook pro with bootcamp. I just replaced my 160gb hard drive by cloning it to a new 640gb hard drive (I zeroed all data and formatted to mac os extended (journaled) beforehand).I wanted to make a 50gb partition for windows and I currently have 515gb free. I don't see how there's any fragmentation that could be stopping it since the cloning process should of defragged... Just to be safe though, I used idefrag and partitioning still fails.

I cloned my existing SSD (From 96GB to 256GB), everything seems to be working fine.Using 256GB, i am able to boot up and it is working okay. Now I am trying to upgrade to Lion, but it says "This disk cannot be used to start up your computer".Anyone know what could be the reason.Do I have to unplug the 96GB SSD?I tried by ejecting, but still not working.

I'm on a 2008 model Mac Pro 8-core system for work. For whatever reason it doesn't have a recovery partition. I read that if I don't have a recovery partition, I can't make a recovery USB bootable drive....so how do I make one? And no, I cannot reinstall the OS on here, that would be beyond detrimental to what's going on here. (too many details to get into)
Alternatively, can I make one with my 10.8.5 MacbookPro at home and run it here on my Lion system?

I previously had Lion installed and decided to wipe my Mac and re-upgrade to Lion. So, I've both zapped the parameter RAM and erased the hard drive, then done a fairly normal install of Snow Leopard. It successfully goes through this process, using my recovery disc, I get through Apple's initial "out-of-box experience" including setting up a user account, and get to the desktop.
There are no issues to this point, no errors, etc. However, having put in the bundled apps DVD, when I run the installer, I get the error:"There were errors with the installation. The installation failed. An unknown error occurred. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."I have repeatedly gotten this error. I have both done a simple reformat of my HDD and a "write zeros" option.
Also, I have tried this before and after doing any software updates. I've also used the Apple Hardware Test which says there were no problems. Disk Utility shows S.M.A.R.T. status as verified, hard drive formatting takes a normal amount of time, and there are no other symptoms of any kind. The unit is stock, and there is nothing attached except for the AC adaptor. The only thing I haven't done yet is do the Lion upgrade, but honestly I shouldn't have to do that just to reinstall the bundled apps.

I had to recover my primary Macinstoh HD to a new disk from Time Machine, but somehow I now lost my Recover HD on the Macintosh HD. To do the initial recover I had to install Mac OS X Lion on a 2nd internal Hard Drive, but now I want to use Time Machine and go back to before I installed Lion, because the permissions are messed up and I can no longer use that disk 2nd disk, unless I continually enter the admin password. Now when I hold down Apple - R key during boot I no longer get to Recovery HD. I was able to see Recovery HD using the System Information app, then within the Serial-ATA section, but that Apple_Boot volume is gone.

I tried reformatting while running Snow Leopard, but the option was grayed out and the install disc made the computer hang at the white bootup screen. I figured I'd just upgrade to Lion and do a clean install (not an option).
After upgrading to Lion, I booted into recovery to erase the hard drive. I did it and it took less than ten seconds (bad sign).
Now I can't get past recovery and the hard drive is still full.

I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.2 and it recently stopped booting. Got the gray screen with the folder that has the question mark on it. I have attempted to use Command + R to do a Internet Recovery of the system, but once I get to the Mac OS X Lion screen to select where i want to install OSX, there are no hard drives listed.
So I figure, the hard drive (Hitachi 500GB that came with the Mac) is damaged or not functioning correctly. This doesn't seem to be the case because I can hook it up to a notebook SATA hard drive enclosure, connect it to my other MBP and read all the contents of the drive! This was good news, as i was able to copy off all important data, etc.
Using Disc utility, the partitions check out, and the drive appears to be functioning OK.
Verify and Repair volume “Macintosh HD”
Checking file systemChecking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
Checking extents overflow file.
Checking catalog file.
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking catalog hierarchy.
Checking extended attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.
Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.
I have purchased a replacement hard drive and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail.
My question now is this:
Am I able to do some kind of time machine backup, make an image, or do some kind of target drive restore from this hard drive since it is accessible on my other computer?
I don't mind reloading the operating system on the original MBP, but would really like to avoid the process of setting up all the applications, settings, etc if this drive is in fact functional.

I tried to create a bootable recovery drive using my usb for OS Lion and was successful with it. Unfortunately the files which I had stored in the usb stick prior to this seem to have disappeared. How can I locate these files? The usb now doesnt mount on the desk top and is only accessible through disk utility.

I created a partition on my new iMac for 200gb and cloned my old MBP with an external HD. I tried to open it from the connected external HD and it wouldn't let me. I tried transferring the files from the external hard drive to the partitioned HD on the imac and it said this operation could not be done........
Also I tried booting from the external cloned HD and can not do any functions with my iMac as the keyboard and mouse are bluetooth and it does nothing when I type...

I sent my old and dying machine in and the service place cloned it over to my new machine. All seems to be identical except a sparse disk image that I had to protect personal files. It's just not there. I haven't been able to get onto the old machine to verify yet if it's still there. Would the cloning process have left it off the new machine? Would it's location inside the library folder of my hard drive have become noticed during the cloning process? Could the tech people have cracked it open? Nothing earth shattering on it but still personal stuff.

I finally get to open my first iMac in a few days and the excitement is killing me. So I decided to sign up for one of the workshops at the local Apple store. The girl told the group that Time Machine would make a perfect mirrored image of the hard drive in case of catastrophic failure. I asked her if this image was a boot-able clone and she said yes.

I am new to mac and I am exploring my back up options.I have a macbook pro running OS X 10.7.4 - Lion.It has a 750 GB internal hardrive.I have some data that I require to be online all the time i.e. on the internal hardrive (say 500GB) and additional data that can be on an external hardrive and accesed when needed (say another 500GB).I would like to back up all my data and also have an additional offsite back up.Is the following possible / a good idea, and how would I execute it: 2 Large external hard drives:With 2 Partitions - the first partician for time machine and the second for my offline data, these could be 1TB each for example.I would plug this in regularly to back up my macbook and if I needed to access the offline data.Another 1 TB drive that is a complete clone of the first. I would use this once a week to create the clone and then store offsite.
