Opening bank data files, while logged into the bank or brokerage sites, by clicking on the PDF or file name icon, is supposed to open in PDF format but instead opens only a single page in Quicktime. This also happened several years ago in Leopard and required the removal of Quicktimeplugin.plugin. I have tried doing that in Lion with no success.

So my dad decided to upgrade the ram on his Powerbook G4 to 2GB. Initially everything went smoothly and the ram was detected and working. Within a week though, the computer only recognized 1 of the memory slots. Switching the ram cards around proved that the ram itself was fine but that the one memory bank was not working. Is this at all a common problem with the Powerbook G4? Our concern is that a repair may cost more than it is worth considering this is an old machine.

Excel is opening closed files from prior sessions when I log into my Mac Pro on Lion. I want excel to launch at log in, but I don't want it opening a lot of files that I have no interest in and since they are big, they take a lot of time to open. I haven't been able to find the setting that will eliminate this problem. Does anyone have any information about whether there is a setting or whether this is "a Feature"?

When I open files, usually .jpg, I sometimes double-click on it just to pop it open real quick to take a look at the larger picture. I still have Preview as my default graphic file viewer and up to 10.6, when I would do this it would just open the file. When I was done looking at it, I would quit Preview by hitting command+Q. Then a bit later if there was another file I wanted a bigger look at I'd follow the same process. I've been doing that for about 5 years.
With 10.7, following this behavior produces different results. If I open a .jpg, then close with command+Q, Lion "remembers" the last file I had open, and when I double click on a file, it opens the file that I clicked on AND any previous files that were open. This could go on and on endlessly. I tried it a few minutes ago and opened 10 files by double clicking on only one. The way that I've found to alleviate this is to first close the .jpg while in Preview, then end the program. This makes sense and everything, but if I tell Preview to close, it should assume that I'm no longer interested in the file that was previously open. I suppose all of this isn't too big a deal as it only adds one additional step to my daily behavior. But it's going to be a hard one to break after a few years of doing something else

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro running Lion (as you can probably guess!), with a 512Gb SSD and 8Gb Ram. Its a pretty fast machine and i'm really happy with the way it runs, however when I open a folder to view files, it opens and shows a blank folder and then I get the black pinwheel in the bottom left/right hand side and I have to wait for sometimes over 30 seconds before the files in that folder are shown!?
One thing to point out is that it doesn't always happen and its not restricted to particular folders. I can open a folder and it will show the files straight away, however I can re-open that folder and it will take up to 30 seconds to show the files...
I've tried rebooting and running nothing, but it still happens. And I have also tried the normal disk utilities to check permissions, etc and I think these are fine too..

A few days ago, ClamXav detected infected files when scanning my mail data base. One of wich was a phishing kind of mesage, and the other was defined as a trojan. It turns out that they were mesages from 2009, by the time when i had a G5 Power PC. I've never open theme, nor clicked the links attached. Now i have a new Mac, but those mails are still in the data base; i think they migrated from my imap account. Any way, i red the ClamXav developper's page and he says that its not advisable to trash out or put this kind of files into quarantine. it bothers me that they still remain in my user's library.

It seems there is a certain folder on the disk that I can't open or access that contains my lossless music files. When I look at the permissions it doesn't let me set them and also doesn't show "me", with the name I use to login to the system, as having access, or even showing up in the permissions on GetInfo.

Can I just install a fresh copy of ITunes and hit sync and it will copy all apps/music/videos/contacts/settings/etc... from the phone back into ITunes? I have an external hard drive that I was previously using on PC, having attempted to use it on a Mac, it will not write to it. I've found that I have to format to FAT32, which I think i can just about manage (yes, im a girl) but my concern is, if i format through the MAC, will i then lose what's on the hard disk as the tab says 'erase'?
