OS X V10.7 Lion :: Excel Files Opening At Log In?
Apr 16, 2012Excel is opening closed files from prior sessions when I log into my Mac Pro on Lion. I want excel to launch at log in, but I don't want it opening a lot of files that I have no interest in and since they are big, they take a lot of time to open. I haven't been able to find the setting that will eliminate this problem. Does anyone have any information about whether there is a setting or whether this is "a Feature"?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Multiple Files Opening When Choosing Only One
Feb 18, 2012When I open files, usually .jpg, I sometimes double-click on it just to pop it open real quick to take a look at the larger picture. I still have Preview as my default graphic file viewer and up to 10.6, when I would do this it would just open the file. When I was done looking at it, I would quit Preview by hitting command+Q. Then a bit later if there was another file I wanted a bigger look at I'd follow the same process. I've been doing that for about 5 years.
With 10.7, following this behavior produces different results. If I open a .jpg, then close with command+Q, Lion "remembers" the last file I had open, and when I double click on a file, it opens the file that I clicked on AND any previous files that were open. This could go on and on endlessly. I tried it a few minutes ago and opened 10 files by double clicking on only one. The way that I've found to alleviate this is to first close the .jpg while in Preview, then end the program. This makes sense and everything, but if I tell Preview to close, it should assume that I'm no longer interested in the file that was previously open. I suppose all of this isn't too big a deal as it only adds one additional step to my daily behavior. But it's going to be a hard one to break after a few years of doing something else

May 14, 2012I am deleting large amounts of files / directories with 10s of GB of disk usage from my internal hard disk.Then I empty the trash.But I don't get more free space on my hard disk! I am not using File Vault.(I also believe that my file system is not corrupt.) This is quite annoying, since I am still unable to copy stuff on my internal hard disk, but given the amount of files I have just deleted, I should be able to do so.
PS:MacBook Pro, 10.7.3, very recent model, 500 GB internal hard disk.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: When Opening A Folder, It Takes Ages To Show The Files
Feb 27, 2012I have a 2012 Macbook Pro running Lion (as you can probably guess!), with a 512Gb SSD and 8Gb Ram. Its a pretty fast machine and i'm really happy with the way it runs, however when I open a folder to view files, it opens and shows a blank folder and then I get the black pinwheel in the bottom left/right hand side and I have to wait for sometimes over 30 seconds before the files in that folder are shown!?Â
One thing to point out is that it doesn't always happen and its not restricted to particular folders. I can open a folder and it will show the files straight away, however I can re-open that folder and it will take up to 30 seconds to show the files...Â
I've tried rebooting and running nothing, but it still happens. And I have also tried the normal disk utilities to check permissions, etc and I think these are fine too..Â

Mar 13, 2012Opening bank data files, while logged into the bank or brokerage sites, by clicking on the PDF or file name icon, is supposed to open in PDF format but instead opens only a single page in Quicktime. This also happened several years ago in Leopard and required the removal of Quicktimeplugin.plugin. I have tried doing that in Lion with no success.

However, just seconds ago, I tried to open a program that I had just downloaded, but I don't know why it's not working. There's so many files that lead to so many more, but I just want to open the application. I extracted it all, but how do I open the program that is amongst many other files in Zipeg?
