My hard drive died yesterday and with it went all my ITunes data as well as all my music and everything else to do with my IPhone. Can I just install a fresh copy of ITunes and hit sync and it will copy all apps/music/videos/contacts/settings/etc... from the phone back into ITunes? If not, Is there any program that can backup the entire phone and reintegrate it back into ITunes so that I can sync my phone normally?
View 5 RepliesBrand new convert to Mac here: After receiving an iPod Touch from my boss when he upgraded to an iPhone, I have fallen in love with the Mac hardware and OS. I just got a new macbook and would like to transfer my iTunes from my old PC laptop. I am also a neophyte to iTunes so forgive me if there is a very simplistic answer to this issue.
The physical music is located on my external drive connected to the PC with the iTunes original music locations pointed to it . My specific question is, if I backup iTunes, restore to the Mac, plug in the external drive to the Mac, will it work seamlessly? I'm not sure if the existing iTunes music locations will re-synch since the music locations on the laptop iTunes are mapped to the "G:" drive. If it won't work that way, what do you recommend as the best way to go about it? I want to make sure I don't waste as much time as when I initially set up my iTunes/iPod touch (simply stuck in "PC" mindset).

View 1 Replies View RelatedAlright so I have a problem with iTunes, whenever I try to update or restore any iPhone or iTouch on my computer it will never finish restoring completely. It will get to about 95% progress and then stops and I leave it for hours and it never finishes. I have iTunes 9.2 and have reinstalled it but no luck. I have had to restore my iTouch on a second computer that has no problems.

I just did an erase and install of the OS on the MacBook and am working on restoring things from my Time Capsule backup. In order to get my iTunes back the way it was so I don't have to start all over, what do I need to copy over?
So far, I've copied the following:
~/Music
~/Library/iTunes
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync
Are there any other directories / files that need to be copied over? I'm trying to avoid having to set up my phone, playlists, genius info, etc all from scratch. Do I also need to copy the iTunes application itself from the backup or should I be able to use the fresh one installed from Software Update? They are both iTunes 9.2.
i'm planning to format my mac book pro, as in, reinstalling leopard and erasing all the files and applications since my mac is getting really slow. I was wondering if the applications ( adobe photoshop, illustrator, final cut etc.) that i backed-up in my time machine will still work on a formatted mac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a fresh install of 10.5 in my iMac (which was previously in 10.4.x) recently. I backed up my important stuff (photo and music libraries) by simply copying the libraries (entire folders) to an external drive.
Then I simply copied back the iTunes library to my folder and started iTunes. Unfortunately, iTunes does not seem to show any of my music library content :-(
I know, I know... I should have backed up using the backup feature of iTunes. I promise to learn from my mistakes. However, is there any way I can restore from the straight copy of the iTunes library (incl. several of my iTunes purchases).
When I was setting up the MBP, I opted to restore from a Time Machine backup and expected everything to go off without a hitch.
When I opened iTunes though, everything was blank -- no songs or videos were listed at all. My playlists were still there though but also blank.
When I checked my Music folder in Finder, everything was still there so I tried manually adding one mp3 to see if it would show up on iTunes. iTunes just played the mp3 but it still wouldn't show up in the Music list.
The hard drive on my old Power Mac G4 recently failed and I lost all my data. I have I backup of my Tiger installation, but no way to restore it - I have no other Mac computers, just Windows ones. I also don't have any OS X installation discs. Is there any way I could format and restore the files to my hard drive from Windows?

If I had to send the laptop in for service I would be without my data for possibly quite some time. So I'm wondering - if I owned a second Mac (maybe an iMac), could I plug in my Time Machine drive and access the data? Could I selectively restore files and folders to the iMac?

First, is there any way I can keep my installed programs, and what (besides the Applications folder) should I back up for this? I'm thinking iWork, MainStage, and a couple of other large programs that I honestly don't want to lose configurations in or redownload (MainStage took me 3 days). I heard there's a way to restore just the operating system without affecting any user data. By the way I'm running the latest iteration of Lion and have a full (tested working) Time Machine backup running as well.

I'm restoring my data (roughly 78GB) because, when trying to partition my disk, I got the annoying "large files cannot be moved blah blah" error. So I backed up (which took almost 5 hours), formatted, and am now currently restoring, at an estimated time of 18-21 hours (it fluctuates, even said 1 day 5 hours at one point). I'm using an old LaCie 120 External, a few years old, but at the least it should be 5400 RPM. Is there a problem that's causing it to take this long, or is this normal? Oh, I forgot to list specs. On the 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB ram, 8600m GT model.

In iTunes 9 you could just drag the bar besides the artwork and it would increase as much as you liked. Now if you click on Album by artist you can choose artwork small - medium - large, but it's not big enough!

After using my Powerbook G4 for about 4 years with some files encrypted with File Vault my Mac suddenly refused to let me log into my user account. I took the Mac to an authorized Apple repairer and was told that a file in File Vault had become corrupted and infected the rest of my hard drive. I lost all my files and documents, photos, music - the lot. When it happens, all you get from Apple is "Sorry about that, but there is nothing we can do - You should have backed up all your files".
I'd just like to warn people not to use File Vault.
I've searched I've found out that iTunes not playing some MP3s it's some king of ID3-TAG-or-sth-like-that issue, so I downloaded "MP3 Validator for Mac OS X"

And it fixes some of my songs, but not all. It says "unknown format" for some MP3.
If I make a file on gurageband, how do I turn it into a itunes file, I've saves it, then changes it to like. ".mp3" but that only saves my vocals, and I want to save the whole song. (with beats, etc.)

I have searched, googled, etc., and not found a satisfactory answer. Briefly, I have used my ITunes on our MBP and on an old Dell PC. At various times I have downloaded music, TV shows, movies etc to either system. Our AppleTV syncs with the Dell and purchased stuff is on there. I just bought a new 27" IMac and a qnap NAS. I want all the media to be on the NAS. How do I go about "merging" the ITunes data from the two computers into a single file on the NAS drive? Is there a way to do so - without losing stuff or without having to individually go through every single song, show, movie, etc.?

I have an external hard drive that I was previously using on PC, having attempted to use it on a Mac, it will not write to it. I've found that I have to format to FAT32, which I think i can just about manage (yes, im a girl) but my concern is, if i format through the MAC, will i then lose what's on the hard disk as the tab says 'erase'? I was able to quickly transfer my music via a dvd-r and flash-drive, and also was able to export/import my playlist quite easily. My question, now, is how can I preserve the play count and transfer it over? To clarify, what is the simplest way to transfer that info over, without having to download third party programs, etc. I am using iTunes 10 on both computers.
