I recently found that the cause for my macbook pro hanging on shut down was due to Kaspersky running in the background. Because quiting it before shutting down every time is annoying is there a way to automate the quitting of an application when I request my computer to shut down?Â

This just recently started to happen. Safari and Mail disappear everytime I quit the applications and I have to relaunch from launchpad. I have the checked the option "keep in the Dock".Â
I am running Mac OS X version 10.7.4 on an iMac7,1 and have been for a while. Â
I can't seem to find any current information in the Apple Discussion Forums. Probable something really simple for a really annoying occurance.Â

My mail.app seems to be stuck on the wrong sort default. Like most people, I prefer my messages sorted in date order. Somehow, my work mailbox has become stuck on sort by message subject. I can change it to sort by date, however, if I send an email (in any account), it reverts back to sorting by subject. Quitting and restarting Mail.app also reverts it to sort by subject. It now seems to be spreading to my other mailboxes.

I tried to send an email to almost 300 recipients through Mail. For whatever reason (not important to me for these purposes) the message cannot send on the server it attempted to use. The message itself remains on my desktop, with a dropdown error message over it. Here's the problem: due to the number of recipients, the dropdown menu goes beyond the lower end of the monitor.
When I view the message in Mission Control I can see that there are options at the bottom of the error message like Edit Message, Try Later, and Try Selected Server, but I cannot click on any of those to try any of them. Also, Tab seems to have no effect on what button is highlighted, and Try Selected Server remains the active choice. If I press return it will try the same server that did not work and then the message remains. I have also tried going into the Outbox and deleting the message but that doesn't work either.

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OS Lion (10.7.3) and in the last two weeks I face the following problem with the Mail application and my Yahoo mail account: although the account appears in the side bar of the application and it will search for new messages when I launch the Mail app, it doesn't load any messages and I also realised that all Mailboxes of the named account are blank! The messages appear normally when I reach my account through the Yahoo page! I tried to remove and re-import the account in the Mail app, but it just worked for two days and now the Mailboxes are blank again! I have no problems with the other two mail accounts I reach through the same application (both POP accounts).

My mail application crashes every time I try to either compose a new mail or reply to a mail.Â
I recently migrated from a old MBP to a new one and only after that have started noticing this issue.
I was already using Lion on my old MBP and continue to do the same on the new machine. I am on Mail Version 5.2 (1257) and OS - Mac OS X Version 10.7.3Â

I run OSX 10.5.8 with Mail 3.6. I have used Mail templates successfully many times. Today I decided to make a custom template and followed the directions in Mail Help. When I saved my custom template, Mail closed and gave me the report window. The report could not be submitted. I can open Mail and do all normal Mail functions, except for the templates. Now, every time I open templates, the Mail app closes and gives me the report window, and each time the report window will not submit the report. I don't really need to make custom templates, I was just trying to learn something new. I do like the standard templates and would like to be able to use them. I closed Mail and re-opened. I shut down the computer and rebooted but no luck. How I can get back to the way things were?

I composed an email today and it didn't like the way I configured the addresses. I got an error message saying the message couldn't be sent because of the address format. Now, every time I send an email, no matter to whom, that error pops up. My correctly addressed emails go out just fine. How do I get rid of it? Where do I find the draft to delete it so the program doesn't keep trying to send? (It's not in my draft folder)

Mail works fine except for one message with a single .docx attachment. All other mail including mail from the same person with other attachments before and after this one has worked fine last few months. This particular one just wouldn't open, not just the attachment, but the text as well. I was able to retrieve the message and attachment directly from the server using a browser connection but that wouldn't have worked for more than a few days as mail automatically is dropped from the server.Â

My macbook pro, my ipad 2 and my iphone 4s. On my ipad, I go into the account to look for sent messages, and I have 3 sent message folders under the inbox,. sent. sent messages and sent with a paper airplane.Â
Now I am trying to get everything to sync together, so that when I write an email on any device, it is saved in the sent mail folder, and I can see it on any device I choose. Currently I am sending email on my ipad and it is not saving in the folders, any of them.Â
in the sent message folder, i am seeing messages sent from me from last friday, although i have sent messages already from this account.Â
in my second account though, the heirachy is different when i go into the account under the inbox i have 1 folder sent messages, then i have the sent messages with the paper airplane next to it.Â
when i go into the sent messages folder i see that a message that i wrote on my macbook pro this morning, is saved in this sent messages folder, as it other things i have sent through my mackbook pro in the sent messages with the paper airplane i have stuff only sent from friday and before. Â

I recently set my Mac Mail preferences (using a me.com account) to send an "away message" to the senders of all incoming messages to my mail account. Little did I know the hassle this would create -- while I was away, there were problems with neverending back-and-forth away messages to various recipients where hundreds to thousands of e-mail messages were automatically exchanged back and forth from my account to the recipient that was also away or unable to receive messages. Then I really goofed up big time and sent myself an e-mail from the same away e-mail account, and I couldn't even stop it, there were so many messages upon messages it was just ridiculous. How can I avoid this problem in the future? Is there a simpler way to set an away message using Mac Mail and a me.com account?

I'm a long time windows/Ubutnu user who have recently migrated to Mac OS X and running 10.7.4. One thing which I'm unable to get used to is that while the red button closes a window, the program will remain open until you quit the application using the Menu Bar. One option to bypass it is use the key combination ctrl-q but by doing that all the instances of that program opens up the next time I open that application. Is there a way out?

This has been happening for a while, but i've only just got around to looking into it. Â
In full screen mail when I compose an email it looks like this: As you can see the fonts and toolbar features are duplicated and blurred.Â
Then if I get out of full screen, it gets even worse!

I was viewing my mailboxes in a column on the left, then a column of the emails in my inbox then the right 2/3 of my screen showed the email massage contents. The area showing the content has disappeared and I have to double click to open an email in a separate window. How do I get the window back to the three areas(mailboxes, email list and selected massage content?

I have the white MacBook, I've had it about 2 years now. I was wondering if maybe I have too much on my hard drive and that is why my most commonly used applications have suddenly begun to close mid-use. I've never had this problem before and have recently uploaded quite a bit of music/photos to my MacBook, so it seems to be the only logical explanation for it? Or, I don't think I could've gotten a virus because 1. I'm very cautious about the files I download and 2. I don't think Macs are susceptible to most viruses. I could be wrong, though.
Nonetheless, does anyone know of any solution for this?
In Mavericks... Is there any way to close the windows of application (when quitting - ie System Preferences => General) BUT not have this affect the finder application.Â
I want the windows I have opened in the finder to remain opened, but everything else to close upon quitting
Is there a way for a Microsoft Office application to auto-quit when you close the last window of it opened? For example, when I close the last window opened of Microsoft Word, the icon sits in the dock with the indicator light still on underneath, waiting for me to manually quit it. I know many other apps auto-quit once they are closed, just wondering if this is an option for Microsoft Office for Mac?
