OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Mail Closes When Opening Templates?
Mar 29, 2012
I run OSX 10.5.8 with Mail 3.6. I have used Mail templates successfully many times. Today I decided to make a custom template and followed the directions in Mail Help. When I saved my custom template, Mail closed and gave me the report window. The report could not be submitted. I can open Mail and do all normal Mail functions, except for the templates. Now, every time I open templates, the Mail app closes and gives me the report window, and each time the report window will not submit the report. I don't really need to make custom templates, I was just trying to learn something new. I do like the standard templates and would like to be able to use them. I closed Mail and re-opened. I shut down the computer and rebooted but no luck. How I can get back to the way things were?

Mail viewer window closes immediately after starting Mail. It flashes up in a small frame and then closes. If I try to view in full screen mode, it will open and then shrink to the top quarter of the page. The lower 3/4 page will be black and it will not allow me to do anything.Â
After I finished my 750 word essay for school, I E-mailed it to myself and when I opened it to print it, it was empty! I have 3 more days until I have to hand it in. I don't have the file on my computer anymore so I can't print from home.
My hard drive died and was replaced a week or so a go. The technician in the iSpot store (the substitute for Apple Stores in Warsaw, Poland) installed Snow Leapord and apparently did not install iLife. After I restored using Migration Assistant from my Time Machine, the iLife programs and Mail would not load.
I took it back and the tech reinstalled reinstalled OS 10.6 and iLife'09. I restored again from Time Machine the the iLife programs then would load and work fine, but Mail is still bombing. Here is what it says in relevant part in the window that appears after clicking on Mail in the dock.
I have tried to reinstall iLife'09 and still get this message.
Does anyone have suggestions for what to do? How do I get it to find the "suitable image"?
Before I upgraded to Tiger, I used Abracode's MailTemplate to help me deal with responding to hundreds of emails that had the same answers. MailTemplate doesn't work with Tiger and I've yet to find a replacement.
Soooo, I'm looking for something that will let me respond or create emails using a template of sorts...so as to save myself from typing to the same thing over and over and over and over again.
im new to this forum as i havent had any problems with my mac until now, for some unknown reason my aol mail account wont open and it says to refresh my page, ive refreshed my page and tried to allow cookies on my mac but my mac setting's doesnt have any options where it allows me to do this.
I have a Mac Book Pro that was purchased in March 2012. Yesterday the Mail App refused to open (it shows the "working" symbol, but never opens). I did a software update but no luck. When I try to check my settings through Mail prefs I get the wheel of death.
when I receive attachments in e mail I am sometimes unable to open them in Safari Mail I am running Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro. All the e maols are from Windows Computers.
For the past few days, when I try to click on a URL link from an email, Firefox will open up but not to the link. I have to right click and copy link and then paste it into the location bar. Very frustrating.
I have also noticed that when I double click on a .html file from Finder, I get a pop up window asking me if I want to open it up and I click "yes" (this is normal), however, once I do that, nothing happens, but if I double click it again, it will open up in Firefox. And each time I do that for each file, the file is not opening up in a new tab, but in a new session of Firefox (my preference for this is set to new tab instead of new window).
I have checked both Firefox and Mail preferences but can't find anything about links to assist/guide me. Any and all advice is welcomed because I am stumped.
When I log onto my MAIL icon it just bounces once and does not open. Same goes for Safari HOWEVER the Firefox, Excel, Word icons open. I have tried re-booting but no luck. As a back up I am using Entourage for my email but prefer to use MAIL, as well would like to use Safari again! What do I need to do to get these working again?
Today i tried to check my email with the mail app that came installed with Yosemite OS but when i tried to open the app i can't see the mail app viewer its like its not responding, i tried to restart the my mac but still having the same issue.Â

I haven't installed any plug ins, altered the accounts, or done anything different in mail today. For some reason, it all of the sudden stopped opening - can't even get a main screen up when I launch it. I've tried deleting plists, holding shift on start up, checked for any problematic mail being downloaded via my iPad, repaired permissions and even tried to launch yesterday's version from Time machine. I've tried opening Mail without being on the internet too. I have an exchange account and a mobile me account on there, and both have been working perfectly until today. I have a 2009 Unibody Macbook Pro running 10.6.4. My crash report is almost twice the length of the allowed word count so can't post it - is there a specific section I should cut and paste?
If I close a session while mail was still open with a window of it open. When I open a session again it automatically open up with a window of mail. Is there anyway to deactivate that.
I have found apple mail to be great however when I go to open a forwarded email ".msg" I need to go back to my original email provider to open it. In apple mail it asks me to choose the appropriate application however I have had no luck.
When I click on an email link in Safari, it opens Apple Mail for me to write an email. But I do not use Apple Mail anymore. I use yahoo mail with Safari. How do I get Safari to stop opening Apple Mail?
Last night I was checking my emails on my iMac. It said that I got a junk email frim gmail. I clicked on it so I can delete, and it showed the email like a preview. My computer froze and it said "Loading" and the spinning wheel on the mouse was spinning for a little bit. Then when I would close out, it would like be really slow and it would freeze a lot. I shut down my computer. I turned it back on. It was running nice. Then I opened Mail because I need to send an email with an attachment that I have stored on my computer. I have iTunes and I was iMessage a friend and it's starting to freeze and the spinning circle is spinning a lot. I do have Time Machine set up. The last backup was before I previewed that email. Should I restore from backup, or take it to the Apple Store?  I do have Apple Warrany and I have Apple Care on it.
I thought this best belonged in OS X Lion discussions even though Mail is affected. I think it may be OS related as the same thing ins happening with my Keychain app.Â
Basically when I open Mail or Keychain Access the app hangs for a long time - about 2-3 minutes before becoming responsive.Â
Mail is not as bad as Keychain. Mail is pretty much fine after the initial delay but Keychain hangs pretty much every time i try to navigate the UI making it unusable.Â
I just replaced my old hard drive today, and transferred over all data/settings etc using time machine. Everything went well until I tried to open mail. It instructed me to import my emails, and after click "done". Fine. Now I can't open mail. Restarted. Tried to open mail, and again, it instructed me to do the same thing? Btw - I'm using a late 2006 intel imac, with Snow Leopard (10.6.8).
I've recently upgraded to OS X Lion and I have one issue with the mail program. When I click on an email message (spam or not) it automatically opens it up in the pane on the right. Is there any way to prevent this automatic opening of messages?

My 85yr old mum has a macbook pro and I am trying to assist her as she has a crazy problem whereby when Mail is opened...ALL emails ever recieved open in quick succession until all 500 are sitting open in a pile on the screen! It may be she has inadvertently changed a setting but I can't work out what it is!
I can't open Mail. When i try the whole "Welcome to Mail - you'll be guided through the necessary steps to set up your mail account" message comes up. It's been working perfectly fine, so I just don't get it.
I've used disk utilities to repair permissions etc and have re-booted...I've even closed it down and un-plugged it and then booted up again, but to no avail. I'm running OS 10.4.11.
The only thing I can think of that would cause something like this is that the computer wouldn't wake from it's sleep mode when I tried to turn it on earlier, so I pressed the off switch at the back to shut it down and to open it again.
