I am unable to close an application called Spotflux, it says application not responding, so I tried using force quit, but it also didn't working.

I have some software such as mail, text edit running and suddenly it stop responding. The mouse cursor keep on spinning for a long time. What you normally do is hit Option + Command + Esc to force quit the software. After i've done so. The software crashed and ask you to send in the crashed report and everything else is very normal. But the software dint actually quite. i can still see a small indication (at the dock) below the icon that the software still running and when i hit Option + Command + Esc again. I still can see the software in the force quite dialog, it doesn't report it as stop responding. When i check the Activity Monitor, there is nothing there.

My Mail has worked since the beginning, but yesterday it stopped fetching incoming mails. I can send mails, but not receive! The clock keeps on spinning and says "fetching new mail" My server ports is set to 25 and 110 as default. When I try to quit Mail, it dosen't. I have to force-quit Mail to close it.

I am using a MacBook Air. When I attempt to select a file for uploading, Safari freezes and the spinning ball goes on and on. Example: When attempting to select and upload a document from my computer to the google drive, the wheel starts to spin when attempting to choose a file. View 2 Replies View RelatedSometime when some application hangs I try to force quit it and the process completely disappears from the Activity Monitor, but the little white marker under the icon on the dock remains and there is no way to restart the application. Does any one know of an easy way out without having the restart the machine? I have a 2008 MBP with Leopard 100% up-to-date on the machine. I tried restarting the application directly from the Application folder instead of double clicking on the dock, and I got "An unexpected error occurred (error code -600)" -- according to Apple, error code -600 means: procNotFound - No eligible process with specified process serial number.

There is an x next to it to stop it but it will not stop. I tried to shut down my computer but it will not let me as there is something running. Is there a way to force quit like in windows with control alt delete?

This has happened multiple times now since installing Yosemite. The problem displayed above is that after force quitting I can't open an application all. Even though it's not running anymore, as proven by the black dot that would be under the icon if it was. I've had this happen with 2 different applications: Steam and Google Chrome.

Is there a way for a Microsoft Office application to auto-quit when you close the last window of it opened? For example, when I close the last window opened of Microsoft Word, the icon sits in the dock with the indicator light still on underneath, waiting for me to manually quit it. I know many other apps auto-quit once they are closed, just wondering if this is an option for Microsoft Office for Mac?

Lately, the command-Q (quit) option under the File menu is greyed out/not available. I tried using the Quit function from the dock icon for Safari--no good, either. I have to Force Quit in order to close Safari.

I'm sure it's not a virus but I'd like to prevent this episode again.
-About 10 minutes ago I inserted my memory stick into my keyboard, and then connected to Cisco.
-I then tried to connect to my school's server and while the progress bar was loading I opened InDesign.
-The Indesign icon started doing it's little jumping thing but nothing was happening. I minimized my browser to look at the progress bar and it was still trying to connect to server. I waited about 2 minutes and when nothing happened I tried a force quit.
-It said that InDesign was not responding so I Force Quit it and nothing happened.
-I then tried to shut down the progress bar but I had that infuriating pinwheel going.
-I decided on a manual shutdown.
-I then turned the computer back on.
-Repeated the same steps except that this time Force Quit said my Safari AND Finder was not responding.
-I Force Quit Finder first. Then Force Quit Connecting to server but all of a sudden my desktop items disappeared as well as my toolbar at the top.
-I tried another manual shutdown because I couldn't call up my Force Quit with my shortcut keys and waited a minute.
-Turned my computer back on but the screen hadn't changed it was as if I had merely put my computer to sleep. I tried this twice.
-Then I turned it off again and this time unplugged my computer and waited a couple seconds.
-I am now on my third try and am afraid to connect to my school's server. I have only opened Safari to type this. I have an assignment due tomorrow!

A few times a day my mac will freeze. Usually I get the spinning beachball and will become unable to click anything, then move the mouse at all. Generally I'm not able to force close anything. It can usually be unfrozen by restarting, or if I go away for 10 minutes it will sometimes have sorted itself out. It appears that this can happen whilst using a variety of different programs, I haven't been able to spot any patterns as such.
So far I have been in contact with Apple support and have done everything they suggested, right up until re-installing Mavericks. I then took the laptop in to a repair shop, I the first time they replaced the logic board. Neither of these things solved the problem, if anything the crashing seems to happen more often now then it ever did.
I took it in to the repair shop for a second time, and they said that something had corrupted the system files, and that I should completely wipe the laptop, only restore my user date from time-machine, then install all the apps again one by one to try and work out which one had corrupted everything.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSay an app has crashed and I then bring up the force quit dialog. I then select the app I want to kill, and press the force quit button. Now as the little popup that says "Are you sure you want to force quit" is coming down, my machine freezes. This has happened 3 times exactly the same way. Other than that, the machine is smooth as clockwork. I'm kinda thinking there is some sort of GFX card bug or something?

I'm getting rather panicky now. I was trying to connect to a network drive on my MacBook when I got a beachball. Nothing would work, not even force quit would come up. So I held down the power button until it went off, and then switched it back on again. It got as far a blank blue screen but no further. I tried it again and this time it didn't get past the grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel.So I took the battery out, unplugged from the mains and held the power button down for over 10 seconds. Then held down Command Alt P R to reset the PRAM. That didn't solve anything.This is the first reboot since some security updates on Saturday past. I'm running Leopard and it's an oldish Macbook, Core 2 Duo with 2 x 2 GB sticks of RAM.

This time however (this has been happening for almost a week) my computer has been very slow and unresponsive. Programs quit due to "errors" and i have to force quit everything. Safari doesnt work either. I have already backed up any files i need and would just like to try and fix this without ANOTHER trip to the apple store.

I just bought a Macbook Pro. When using safari, it freezes at least once a day to a point I can't force quit, and had to do a hard shut down. I've figured out that if I am using my computer and safari for more than a couple of hours, Safari just freezes. An apple support representative did mention that laptops were not meant to be constantly on, so I have been shutting it down when not in use. Still, I shouldn't have to shut down after an hour just to keep Safari from freezing.
Does this sound normal? Is there an easy fix? Do I need to look at getting this computer replaced? Or should I download a better web browser?
I'm also new to Mac, and thought switching from a windows would mean better reliability. So far I have been unimpressed with my computer. I just want it to work without worrying about having to force it to shut down once a day.

I have an old "vintage" Macbook with Tiger as my OS. I have all sorts of sleep issues with it, and recently after accidentally hitting the sleep button, I had to force quit the machine by holding down the power button because it was just (beachball) spinning when I tried to start it up again.
I went to start it up and I get the gray screen with the apple on it and the spinning "clock hands" this goes on until I get a darker screen without apple and more spinning. It stays there. We've tried a host of solutions including the resetting through battery removal, we've tried to "archive and reinstall", etc.

I pressed the play button (F8) on my mac book pro yesterday. Iphoto began playing a fullscreen slideshow that I was not able to stop by any means. I hit the key for force quit and it appeared on the screen but was not able to be clicked. I pressed the power button for 5 seconds then for the first time ever on macbook pro that was so expensive.. Ive ran multiple different types of terminal searches for this "flashback" Trojan worm/virus that's going around. I've also searched for com.apple.systempreference.plist and it's not in there at all. I've done safe mode and everything else. I do not have a wallpaper HD lite, I am OUT of options, and I really don't want to have to re install Lion. Can someone PLEASE tell me something, other than those options?
