I just updated my iMac with the latest suite of automatic upgrades and now launch pad has 100s to 1000s of files in it. What happened and how do I get rid of all this junk? Scrolling through the launch pad just crashed my computer.

My Trash is filled with very large files which I deleted from my Time Machine Backups. I tried to empty the trash many times and each time it took an age to prepare and delete and even then, it didn't delete it. How do I force the trash to empty and to empty quickly rather than take 12 hours? Is there a command line I can use or anything else which will do the job almost instantly?

I opened the finder window (back when I could) and scrolled over on HD X infinity. I don't know why I did it. I guess just to see how many times it would fold over. Well I held down the arrow and it went hyperspeed.. made a loud buzzing noise then crashed. I shut off the computer and ever since then I cant open finder. Desktop or any folders that I search for through spotlight. What I would like to do would be to save all my files. Most importantly garageband files, pictures and video, itunes. I've tried to use a usb and external hardrive but I cant properly insert the files into the drive. And my cd drive doesn't work so I cant insert the install disk. I do have another ibook g4 and I've been hunting for ways to remedy the situation. My goal is to get everything back to normal and save my files.

These annoyances seemed to have fixed themselves after restart. Now, many (not all) of my preferences have been changed requiring manual reset: auto login on start-up; internet connection. But the most problematic is that my CS3 programs won't launch due to one reason or another (missing licensing permissions or files; different messages with each program.)
I launched Disk Utility (using both Safe Boot and the Install CD) but Repair Permissions failed with a No Valid Package message
I was making my first cloned HDD backup since upgrading to 10.6. I plugged in my external HDD and asked Superduper to do a smart update, but after coming back 4 hours later, I have found that the backup failed, and my 500GB is full! Now, I have inspected my hard drive and found that the operating system is intact and all of my current files are here but how did my HDD fill up, and where are these excess files? I am sure that Superduper somehow failed to copy the files to my external HDD and somehow placed them on my Macbook's HDD... but how do I find them?

All of a sudden this morning my Mac Pro hard drive filled up with data...completely. I had a Finder window open and watched as the available space went form 90gb+ to ZERO. About this Mac shows over 100gb of "Other" data and ran Space Gremlin and it shows 207gb of "Restricted" data.

I have had Lion since the day it came out, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. All of the applications that I have downloaded and installed before yesterday worked perfectly. Then, out of the blue, any application that I install or update (not from the App store) refuses to launch. It either bounces forever in the dock or does nothing when it is clicked.Â
The only system changes I have made are installing Photoshop CS6 Beta and Steam. So far, I've tried:
- Permissions & Disk repair through the Lion recovery partition
- Removing and re-downloading the apps
- Running in 32-Bit modeÂ
I'm running 10.7.3, with all the latest updates installed, on a mid-2011 Macbook Pro. Restoring from a TM backup is not really a viable option currently, since my backup drive is 50 miles away and unavailable for the next week and a half

iTunes keeps quitting immediately after launch. AM running latest software upodates, and this is on Lion. Only been happening a cweek or so after latest Software Update. Doesnt happen on my 4 year old MacbookPro.

Normally/Before, when i download an app, i click to open, it will pop up a windows to ask me if i want to open it, for it's downloaded from the internet, i will allow it.
But now, nothing pop up, and if i launch no matter which app downloaded from the net, the icon in the dock keep jumping and nothing happen.

2011 Core i7 iMac with Lion. Noticed yesterday that system prefs won't launch. No spinning beachball, does absolutely nothing including no launch animation. tried resetting the SMC, followed by booting into disk utilities and doing repair permissions. Then did a reinstall of Lion, again from the disk utilities boot. Not sure if I was at 10.7.3 or 10.7.4 before all this, but reinstall got me back to 10.7.3, updated to 10.7.4, problem persists with both.Â
I just noticed this is only with the main admin account. There is one secondary account on the computer that my kids use - if I switch to it I am able to access system prefs. Â
I had my mac over the past 2 years, I filled it up. It got to the point where I only had 12 gbs of memory left. I know it is not good to fill a comp up, but a lot of applications started crashing. I got a 500 gb internal drive thinking this would help, but apps keep crashing, or "not responding". When I "force quit" them and restart them they work but it is annoying to have to keep doing that.

How to automatically launch work contexts? By the term context, I mean:
- When I'm working on website design, I always need to have Coda application on the right, a browser on the left.
- When I'm developing with XCode, I need XCode on the right and iPad simulator on the upper left and at the bottom left, I have the documentation, etc.
I'd like to be able to by one click to launch all of that correctly placed on the screen etc.

Safari 5.1.4 update downloaded into Lion 10.7.3 on a Mac mini earlier today. Won't launch. Creates a report saying it is 5.1.2."Reopen" just repeats a report (many sent from different accounts!)As far as I can see other apps still work including Adobe CS4 and Firefox.Cannot enter safe mode to try it there by using shift on reboot as suggested for Lion.Not sure what extensions I have for Safari but very few. After upgrading to Lion I see a check box at shutdown to refrain from opening web pages currently open in Safari. I did that, unchecked it, but they still open. How odd they would make this a opt out scenario - is there a way to make this permanent? I liked the old way where you could go into History and do it during a new session.

However, I recently tried to re-install Appfresh (an application updater), so I used Appcleaner to uninstall it, grabbed a new download, dragged it to Applications as normal, double-clicked it.. nothing. The icon sits in my dock, and the indicator pulses, continuously, but the application never appears. It's not in the Force Quit menu, and Activity Monitor has no trace of it either.Â
I thought, okay, something up with Appfresh. But I've since tried a couple of other apps, and a game (Botanicula), and the exact same thing happens. I've done nothing new in the way I've installed them, opened their .dmg files, and dragged the application into Applications, completely normally, but they all do the "sit in the dock and nothing else" thing. If I left-click them once in the dock, they vanish, and that's all I hear of them. I've tried Disk Utility to do both verify and repair permissions to both the disk and the partition, but that hasn't solved the problem. I'm running the latest 10.7.3 with all patches to remove Flashback, etc.Â
I just updated my new macbook pro (OS X v. 7) yesterday and now I can't launch any Office 2011 programs. I have reinstalled and reinstalled form the Microsoft Backup disc and can't get it to work. I can't get a straight answer about compatibility on the Microsoft website. how I can get my office programs to work?Â

The data on the iPhone is corrupt, restore it (or something similar, my iOS is in German). iTunes did not even recognize my iPhone anymore.Â
So I did restore the iPhone from the last backup from a few days ago. Everything looks fine during the backup process. iTunes resets the iPhone, then syncs all my music (about 16 GB or some 4,000 titles).Â
But after completing, the music is not there! The iPhone's memory is filled with 18GB "other data" (the yellow one, you know), and when I open "music" on the iPhone, it is completely empty. Â
Obviously iTunes DOES transfer the music files to the iPhone, but they do not "arrive" there properly.Â
I seem to have tripped over this quarantine bug in Lion. Newly downloaded apps simply sit in the Dock with the sphere pulsing, and disappear when clicked on.Â

Is there anything new known about this situation? Is there any other workaround or trick to try? This is stopping me from being able to install any new software properly. How the heck to I stop Lion from launching old docs when I open a new doc in MS Word, Excel, Preview, etc? I HATE this feature. Twice now I've edited the wrong document because when I click on a new Word doc, one that I worked on last automatic pops up on top of it. This is a ridiculous feature! Also, I don't need photos that I looked at yesterday magically opening when I open a new photo in Preview. That can be embarrassing if is someone is looking over my shoulder, if you know what I mean. Do I need to make sure I close all old docs instead of just quitting. Is there a way to just turn this frustrating auto open feature off?Â

I was backing up my computer today and apparently my hard drive filled up in the middle of the back up so I got a notification telling me that Time Machine had deleted an older back up to make room for it. I need things that are on that back up...is there any way to recover it?

No, I don't have "Start on Login" selected for these apps in the dock. Another weird thing:Â I selected a Word document to open, the app launched and the last document I was in also opened, even though I didn't select it.

My Mac started doing this a few weeks ago, where after login it all kind of collapses. Sometimes the desktop icons won't show up, or Hear (which runs on startup) will get stuck loading for a long time. Sometimes everything seems fine but no programs will launch, or the dock won't respond. So far I've done an Onyx cleanup run, a Disk Verify and Repair. Permissions Verify and Repair and even did the good old Command+R on startup and reinstalled Lion. It worked the first time and then it went back to its old antics. I'm afraid if its a corrupted file and even if I get a new Mac then when I restore from Time Machine it'll carry over.

If you click on the Reopen it does the same thing. Tried the utilities / Disk Utility / Repair Disk permissions ... still doesn't work.
