OS X :: Memory Filled Up - Apps Started Crashing

Apr 28, 2009

I had my mac over the past 2 years, I filled it up. It got to the point where I only had 12 gbs of memory left. I know it is not good to fill a comp up, but a lot of applications started crashing. I got a 500 gb internal drive thinking this would help, but apps keep crashing, or "not responding". When I "force quit" them and restart them they work but it is annoying to have to keep doing that.

MacBook Pro :: 500G HD That Has Filled Up With 481G Of "other" Memory?

Apr 22, 2012

I have a 500G HD that has filled up with 481G of "other" memory. I bought the clean my mac progran and it did a little bit of cleaning. However, it has not made a dent. I do a lot of movie editing. I do have an external 4T HD that I save everything to. I went as far as deleting all the FCPX files that were on the HD and moved them over to the External to see if that helped. It still did not do anything. Is there something I am missing? What exactly does the "other" consist of?

OS X :: 10.6.1 - Apps Crashing And Cannot Resize Partition

Oct 2, 2009

I have been experiencing recurrent app crashes on my Macbook 3,1 running 10.6.1 for the past few weeks. Turns out the error was Kernal protection failures with apps like iTunes (latest version), Grab, Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper. One recent report of a failure is at the bottom of this post. Thinking my 10.6.1 install had become corrupted (I had done an upgrade to SL), I decided to partition my 320 gig drive and do a erase and install on the new partition. My current install takes up 130gigs. I have tried using Disk Utility to make a new partition of 130, then 120 then 110 then 100 gigs but it fails each time at resizing the current partition.

OS X :: All 3rd Party Apps Crashing On Launch All Of A Sudden

Jan 11, 2011

This seems really odd, I came back to my MBA and noticed all my apps had crashed. Now I cannot open a single 3rd party application, they either don't open or crash at launch.

Any ideas? I rebooted, repaired permissions but nothing I open that isn't made by apple works.

OS X :: Apps Crashing - Method Deprecated Error

Feb 2, 2009

I've got a couple of different third party OSX applications that are freezing/crashing whenever I click on an icon in the respective application's toolbar. The PID (213) and error are the same for each application. The system log reads:

2/2/09 8:06:37 PM Assignment Planner[213]
The '-[NSSegmentedCell _setSegmentedCellStyle:]' method is deprecated. Please use -[NSSegmentedCell setSegmentStyle:] instead. This message will only be reported once.

I've googled this for some time but only come up with forums about Coco software writing. This appears to be a problem with my prefs or something given that it is spread across several applications.

I've tried:
- Deleting related pref files
- Permissions repairs
- Reboot
- Fresh reinstall of effected programs

Intel Mac :: Apps Crashing After Fresh OS X Installation?

May 6, 2012

I bought a second hand iMac, formatted the HD and installed Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Fixed disk permission, did all the software upgrades, fixed once more permission and verified startup disk... and everything seemed to work fine.

After using it for an hour I've started noticing strange crashes:

-When I use Software Update and I click Show Details, the app crashes every time... but if i click the Install button it works fine.

-The computer is connected to the internet but Safari is not showing anything. It stays white. I've installed Firefox and it works fine. Safari not loading anything.

-App Store is crashing upon launch, every time

Checked the hardware using the Apple disk and it's all in order. Re-fixed Disk Permissions. Re-verified startup disk.

Applications :: Microsoft Office Apps Crashing Right After Loading?

Jan 18, 2010

Just recently all of my Microsoft Office applications have quit working - they crash as soon as they load. I have not added any RAM or made any significant changes or updates. I am on a MacBook Pro, OS X version 10.5.8, 2 GB 667 MHz, 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

MacBook Pro :: 10.7 Suddenly Slow, Odd Behavior And Apps Crashing?

May 3, 2012

I've tried every trick I can think of within my current technical competency and I'm stumped for what to try next.Lately I've had some odd behaivour with it that may or may not be related or even significant...Finder hanging semi-regularly.Different programs preventing shut down.My volume randomly going up and down like the keys are being pushed (possibly a remote issue related to my recently purchased Apple TV, though not actually being used at the time of incendents?)

Current Issues Suddenly this week it feels like everything's causing trouble. Issues inclue...Various programs crashing or hanging (Firefox, Finder, Photoshop, Illustrator etc. - seems non-specific). Finder in particular I can't even get to reboot sometimes.Finder sometimes not loading view of files in folders, no spinning loading wheel either.Power cable light went amber for a period yesterday even though the MBP was at full power and plugged in all day.Photoshop file I created and know was working fine yesterday suddenly had an 'unexpected end-of-file error' today suggesting it wasn't saved properly and is since corrupted.Everything is running painfully slow, even when it works. Things I've changed latelyThe only things I can think of that I've done differently lately are these...

Upgraded my Dropbox to 100gb and started working with large artwork files directly from there.Changed the settings on my Airport Express Base Station at my office, which my MBP is set to try and connect to when possible. Remedies I've triedRebooting numerous times.Zapping the P-ram, which wont even work at the moment. Even with holding in the power button the MBP just loads to the login screen as per usual.Rebooting in safe mode.Emptying the trash can.Running iAntivirus to scan for viruses which came up clear.Repaired Disk and Repaired Disk Permissions.Run Spring Cleaning to clean System Caches.Cleared more space on my hard drive.Updated all softwareI'm completely out of ideas and I'm still none the wiser as to what the actual issue is.

Is letting an Office app stay open a no no?

Now, I have inspected my hard drive and found that the operating system is intact and all of my current files are here but how did my HDD fill up, and where are these excess files? I am sure that Superduper somehow failed to copy the files to my external HDD and somehow placed them on my Macbook's HDD... but how do I find them?
