OS X V10.7 Lion :: Edit .plist File In App Package (error Locked)?
Apr 3, 2012
I'm trying to edit a .plist file within a application Package (through "Show Package Content"). I edit the file in my favorite XML editor great, but when I go to save it the file is locked. How can I work around this?
Getinfo on the file shows that I have permission and the file is NOT locked.
I recently edited a resume on a friends Mac computer and sent a copy to myself to my email. When I received the file, it was locked. Might be a pretty simple question, but how do i unlock the file and continue to edit the copy on my computer? I'm using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 at the moment if that makes a difference.
I changed the time frame on my auto backup so it would only go once a day instead of hourly, now it seems like it does not run at all unless I do it manually.
Am I missing something or is Nano not good for editing these files?
When I open a new finder window, it doesn't have anything in it. If I change the preferences to another place, I get the contents. If I change them back to the desktop, I get nothing. Searching for something gets me items, but I would like my finder window to behave again. I just don't know where the preferences file is now, in Lion..
I am trying to run software update on my computer because iTunes keeps telling me there is an update available, however, when software update runs it says that my computer is upto date.
I have also tried to download the latest version of iTunes from Apple's website. When I try to install it comes up with this error: "An error occurred while evaluating javascript for the package"
I tried to edit the hosts file in Lion with: sudo nano /private/etc/hosts.Then entered Password. The window came up blank evev though I know there is data there.
Using Lion, I have tried to re-size an image using Preview and every time I try to save my edited image it tells me I do not have permission to save this/the file is locked when I have full permissions to do so and the file is NOT locked.
I found something annoying with the leopard finder and view info with folder size. For example, the system folder thinks its 562.5MB, but the Library folder one level into the system folder is 3.25GB. Why does the system folder not add the sizes of all the other folders under it? Is there any way to change a plist file or something so that it does this?
but I must have entered the image path wrong and now I just get a blank blue login screen background and I dont know how to change it. I'm pretty sure the only file i changed is com.apple.loginwindow.plist
I was having issues with Safari so I wanted to delete the plist file. However, when I went to, I was told the file was locked. It let me delete it anyways, but I never recall locking it. I'm hoping it was just a fluke, but is there possibly some kind of malware or trojan that would have locked it?
I am trying to edit Haskell files with Text Edit. However when I save the file it automatically adds .txt or .rtf and won't let me use .txt. Even when I go into finder and change the file extension it immediately changes it back to .rtf or .txt. It works when I save perl files. How do I get Text Edit to save Haskell files? I am using Lion.
My old 120GB hard drive seemed to be flaky, and I needed the increased capacity, so I upgraded to a 500GB hard drive on my white MacBook. Install was not hard at all, I formatted and partitioned the drive, but I can't seem to install MacOS X (10.5) on it from the DVD's that came with my MacBook. It will boot to the installer DVD, allow me to select the hard drive, and starts the install. However, each time it ends with something along the lines of "Error verifying Essentials package", and advises me to contact the software manufacturer. (Strange that it advises contacting the "software manufacturer" rather than "Apple."). The DVD is pristine, no evidence scratches. I also had problems earlier performing an Archive & Install on the old drive, but I thought this was because it ran out of room. I can also boot the MacBook through my old drive, attached to a USB enclosure. Can that drive be used to install a new system?
I have a MacBook Pro using latest OS and had been having trouble with my wallpaper changing back to default settings. After reading this support thread: URL...., I followed the instructions to install the following file in this
directory: Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ The file called autodiskmount.plist had the following content (all following the directions of the thread above): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" URL....
After trying to restart the laptop, it has now been stuck at the grey screen with the apple logo and the rotating circle. I have tried using disk utility and repairing the start up disk. Doing a safe reboot does not work.
I use an external hard drive for Time Machine backups and to store some larger video files in a folder called Videos. The Videos folder on the external drive is now locked and I can't unlock it. I go to Get Info, hit the lock icon and enter my password, but the "Locked" checkbox is greyed out in the General section. In the Sharing and Permissions section, instead of displaying my name, it says "Fetching . . ." and I can't change the Privilege from "Write Only".

I can't seem to edit any pictures with Preview anymore since I upgraded to Lion. Every time I try to save an image after resizing or whatever, it says the file is locked. If I check the info of the file the "locked" checkmark is unchecked. And I have all the permissions to the file. Tried everything, switched the "lock after 2 weeks" thing of in Time Machine (even though tha would probably not help: images I took today are still "locked" in Preview), tried copying them and then saving them, and tried to lock them and then unlock them, but I can't seem to edit and save them.
Well 10.5.6 has been so much fun and full of surprises - like a box of chocolates Gump would say. For some reason, the sleep function settings won't reset. I had my iMac set to sleep the HD after about an hour. I changed the setting to never, but it still wants to sleep. Never had any trouble like this before the update. My install is almost virgin as I had to reinstall because of the update. I don't have any add-ons running or anything like that. Can I delete the .plist file for these settings to start over?
I have been working on a project in iMovie for a few days, and it has been working perfectly. Today, I opened up my project and I could not play the project (the red line would move, but no picture would show up in the upper right hand corner box) and ALL of the options in the "share" tab were gray and unable to click them. Many options in the "edit" and "file" tabs were unable to be clicked as well.
Another project i completed months ago is working perfectly. The clips in the events play/show up on the window in the upper right hand corner
This PKG makes snow leopard able to be installed on Windows PC's. I'm trying to do this on my PM g4 400mhz running 10.3.9. Or would it work better on a eMac? .
startup banner.JAWBONE UPDATER ERROR: Failed to inspect the lock file '/Users/[user]' (error 2: No such file or directory)." Jawbone support writes, "get in touch with Apple Support, so they can help you unlock the file on your Mac.
I have a external drive that is locked by a permissions error. I need to reset the permissions on this drive. I know it can be done through command line, but I dont know code. Disk Utility only repairs permissions on system files and since there is no system I am hoping there is third party software.
Today I switched from mobile.me to iCloud and now I realize that my bookmarks changed back to a configuration I had weeks ago. So I go look for the bookmarks.plist in my Library to do whatever it takes - actually I am looking in yesterday’s Timeline Library - and I cannot even find a Safari folder in my Library, let alone the .plist. Where do I find it? What do I do to reinstall the bookmarks as I had them yesterday? How do I make sure iCloud synching doesn’t srew around with my bookmarks?
having burned photos to a disk when i try and play the disk through the mac it says, The iPhoto library is on a locked volume. Reopen iPhoto when you have read/write access, or reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library?
I recently downloaded the Sims 3 from amazon onto my computer. It finished downloading and when I went to install it it said "Warning: the following disk images couldn't be opened." Then listed the file, thesims3.dmg and the reason as error -4960.
