When I open a new finder window, it doesn't have anything in it. If I change the preferences to another place, I get the contents. If I change them back to the desktop, I get nothing. Searching for something gets me items, but I would like my finder window to behave again. I just don't know where the preferences file is now, in Lion..

I've been trying to find the title mentioned file on my Vista machine for a while now, and no luck. I've read numerous articles describing how it is located at
C:/Users/*Username*/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/Safari
But I have everything except the Preferences plist. Ultimately I just want to adjust the settings as you would with terminal to make Safari 4 use its blue inline progress bar, I think this is a bug (which I have reported).
Secondly, would anyone happen to know how to make the User Agent a permanent change to Firefox 3, as this is the only way to be able to access Live Mail, as Safari 4 seems not to want to play ball with it. The temporary fix so I have found is to set the User Agent as Firefox 3 (Even the IE8 didn't work??).
I found something annoying with the leopard finder and view info with folder size. For example, the system folder thinks its 562.5MB, but the Library folder one level into the system folder is 3.25GB. Why does the system folder not add the sizes of all the other folders under it? Is there any way to change a plist file or something so that it does this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried to change the login screen background on my macbook using this mini tutorial. I tried using this method
Quote:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow DesktopPicture "/Path/to/picture/you/want/to/use/image.jpg"
but I must have entered the image path wrong and now I just get a blank blue login screen background and I dont know how to change it. I'm pretty sure the only file i changed is com.apple.loginwindow.plist
I reinstalled SL on my mac but when I did I got a file called incompatible software, should I delete it or keep it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was having issues with Safari so I wanted to delete the plist file. However, when I went to, I was told the file was locked. It let me delete it anyways, but I never recall locking it. I'm hoping it was just a fluke, but is there possibly some kind of malware or trojan that would have locked it?

After trying to restart the laptop, it has now been stuck at the grey screen with the apple logo and the rotating circle. I have tried using disk utility and repairing the start up disk. Doing a safe reboot does not work.

Today I tried opening my keynotes presentation file to make amendments to it and when I double clicked on it, the program loading bar only loaded up a third of the way and then hanged. I then tried to save it to a flash drive and use it on a different computer, but when I tried to copy it over to the flash drive it gave me this error: "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "garment styles" could not be read or written error code - 36".
I have tried changing the file extension to a zip, then unzipping it and then renaming it but that did not work.(It wouldn't let me unzip it). I have also looked at the index file name to see if that was the problem, but that is as it should be.
I have also tried uploading it to a website and emailing it and it will not let me.
Is there anyway I can recover this file as I have been working on it for over a month and it is due next week, or will I need to start again?
Well 10.5.6 has been so much fun and full of surprises - like a box of chocolates Gump would say. For some reason, the sleep function settings won't reset. I had my iMac set to sleep the HD after about an hour. I changed the setting to never, but it still wants to sleep. Never had any trouble like this before the update. My install is almost virgin as I had to reinstall because of the update. I don't have any add-ons running or anything like that. Can I delete the .plist file for these settings to start over?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to edit a .plist file within a application Package (through "Show Package Content"). I edit the file in my favorite XML editor great, but when I go to save it the file is locked. How can I work around this?Â
Getinfo on the file shows that I have permission and the file is NOT locked.

Since I am new to mac I have no idea how to debug this. Can someone tell me what I am supposed toi do now? . Also if i uncheck all except one (like imove) I get the same message about the file being corrupted. When I check only tghe mac OS X update and it then asks to restart the computer, it again gives the message saying an unknown error has occurred and it couldnt be installed.

I am experiencing difficulties downloading a song from the iTunes Marketplace on my MacBook Pro. I recently purchased a new album by Of Monsters and Men and track 4 of the Album 'Slow And Stead' refuses to complete. I keep receiving an error: "There was a problem downloading 'Slow and Stead / My Head Is An Animal / Of Monsters and Men' The file seems to be corrupted. To redownload the file, choose 'Check for Available Downloads' from the Store menu." On the download page of iTunes it reads: zero kb of 10.2 MB - stopped (err = -100000).
I have attempted to download this file numerous times and nothing has worked. Here is what I have done so far: I have contacted iTunes support to report the problem. It has not been several days and no response.I have gone to the Disk Utility and did the Repair Disk Permissions option.I went to UsersUserMusiciTunesiTunes MusicDownloads and deleted and files that were located in this location. Anytime I did a deletion or repair I have restarted my computer. I have run out of options on what I need to do next.

A friend sent me a RAR file, I unpacked it and nothing appeared in the downloads folder where I unpacked it to? After doing this a couple of times as I thought it might be a blip, I deleted everything in the folder. But the folder states the size of it is 4.5gb for 0 items?

I found 3,708,612 copies of zero byte plist files in over 50 folders in my Time Machine backup database. One perf-pane application made all of them. Is there a fast way, really fast way to delete all of them at once. The spinning ball takes a long time to delete even one file stored 50 or more times in different or the same folder.

For the past few months, I've tried to restore my iPod Classic because it randomly restarts itself, not to mention moving on the following song during the middle of a song that is already playing. However, it seems iTunes won't restore it. The following message appears every time I try to do this:
The link takes me here:

But that website simply doesn't help me out. I've taken my iMac to a Genius and he basically said that something is corrupted in OS X. I should mention the fact that programs such as Onyx and Maintenance claim that I am not the admin when in fact, my account is the only account on the computer. The funny thing was that I created a new account and restored the iPod through there, it would work just fine.
So, besides that long explanation of my problem, is there anyway I can fix this without having to resort to placing all my files on an external and installing a clean copy of OS X? Would archiving and installing back to Leopard do the trick?
Just recently, my Norton Internet Solutions (particularly Anti-Virus) has been disabled, and emails sent to people on my contact lists in Eudora, by some sort of Trojan. Mail also seems to be involved, because it opens unexpectedly, and tries to contact the internet without reason, as I've learned through 'Little Snitch'. My two anti-virus programs, Avast! and Norton don't seem to be able to detect this problem.Â

I edited a wedding on Final Cut studio. Both the software as well as all my uploaded footage collected on an external harddrive. BOOMÂ My hard drive completely becomes corrupt and I can't mount it (meaning my computer doesn't recognize the drive). I then purchased a data-recovery software and, after about two hours, recovered the corrupted files. I then downloaded "VLC" as well as "DIGITAL REBELLION" to repair the files and they cannot seem to do so. Case and point I need these MOV. files as soon as possible and I turn to this forum for guidance of any kind. My Mac is a desktop iMac. It's completely updated and I'm running on iOS X 7.3.

My screen on my 2 week old iMac comes up pixelated leaving square trails mimicking the movement of the mouse. I have had consultations twice with Apple support junior team members, looking forward to a senior team member reviewing my case. It looks like some sort of eraser wiping the blank dark screen revealing the login screen underneath.
Oh by the way my first iMac was sent back due to dead pixels, how unusual is that?
