View 2 RepliesI have hundreds of one-page files to email to a client. I don't seem to be able to understand how to compress them so I can email them. Some of them have photos, so I thought it would be a good idea to keep each compressed file to 20. For example, I thought I followed the instructions correctly when I went to the folder in Word and selected 20 of the files using Command. I didn't open the files or move them or create another folder for them because the instructions didn't tell me to do that. I did right click as the instructions said. Nothing. Obviously, there are some missing steps.

What is the safest corrupt-recoverable way to compress a large (16GB) set of files for use with mac and windows?
I have tried winrarring into parts, but winrar doesn't support par recovery, and unrarx for mac doesn't tell you which part is corrupt.
Is there a half decent .rar extraction utility for mac that can tell you which part is corrupt, and can read .rev (winrar recovery) files? It seems simple but I've tried so many.
How to compress my files and folders, as I believe my macbook pro is starting to freeze and caused by having a slow machine, what do I use to compress these files into one folder.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a folder called Blanks/ABC FM/SMS/Other and when I compress it I get two zip files of the same size: one with the correct name and the other called Archive.zip. When I remove the space I only get the Archive.zip. When I remove the slashes I get the correct zip file only.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to compress a PDF I have created. I've been told that in Preview, in the Print dialog box, in the PDF menu there is an option "Compress PDF." That option doesn't appear in my dropdown menu. It doesn't appear in that menu regardless of what program I'm selecting Print from. I have a new MacBook Pro I bought last August with the latest version of Lion. How do I get that compression feature to work on my system?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an old (bought in 2003) iMac flat panel, 1.25GHz PPCG4, with 768MB DDR SDRAM, with the Tiger 10.4.11 system on it. I want to buy a Macbook air or pro but I discovered that I cannot transfer files directly from Tiger to Lion. I cannot upgrade to Leopard neither (not enough space). I don't want to loose my photos or music or emails etc. What options do I have ?
Is there anything that would not be possible to save, whatever the option? I have another question about external hardware: I'm using a LaCie external DVD drive Super Write Master and an external hard disk (only 300GB) LaCie Little big disk, a few years old. Would they work with the new computer?

First of all here's my setup: 30d/4u Charter internet coming in through my Linksys modem, from there to port 1 of my 2006 Intel Xserve running NAT and DHCP, out from port 2 of the Xserve into my AirPort Extreme running in Bridge Mode, and then out to my other devices.Â
My AirPort setup is as follows: Internet tab-DHCP, address set by Xserve; Wireless tab-Create a wireless network, WPA/WPA 2 Personal; Wireless Options...-5 GHz network name is not checked, Radio mode is set to 802.11a/n-802.11b/g/n (Automatic), both 2.4 and 5 GHz channels are set to Automatic; Network tab-Off (Bridge Mode).Â
I am transferring 100+ GB of data across the network to my Xserve, but it is only Xferring at 5.5 MB/s, or around 44 Mbps, which isn't even at wireless-g speeds. My iMac is the Mid 2010 27" BTO w/ 2.93 i7 and 8 GB of RAM. It is also wireless-n compatible. The Xserve is wired and they have had gigabit NICs since the G5s.Â
Things I've tried: In Wireless Options... I tried turning Radio Mode to 802.11a/n-802.11b/g and leaving 5 GHz network name unchecked, but the speeds were down in the 2 MB/s range. Again in Wireless Options... I checked the box for 5 GHz network name, and left Radio Mode in Auto, joined the 5 GHz network on my iMac, tried again, but again only 2 MB/s or less. In Wireless Options... again, I checked the 5 GHz network name box, and set Radio Mode to a/n-b/g, but ocne again, it ran at 2 MB/s or less. The AirPort Extreme is model A1354, which is obviously 802.11n compatible, and the iMac is also 802.11n compatible. Â
I'm trying to work on compiling a "family video" with clips from my siblings. They all use PCs and I'm the only Mac, but they're sending me Mpeg files that I can't open. I get a notification that I need "additional software" in order to open those files and get them working in iMovie.

Is this all the compression I can expect to get from compressing an iPhoto folder?
I searched old threads and it seems .JPEG files dont compress as well as other file types. Any advice other than splitting the file up? Shown is the Zip file and the original folder.
I have an iso file I'm trying to burn to a dvd but it's a little too big (5GB). What do I need to compress it? It's actually on a pc so if anyone knows a windows xp app to do it that would be great. Otherwise i'll have to transfer to my macbook.

I have legally downloaded a live grateful dead show from [URL] and I want to send it to my friend. The show is about 1gb in size so I can't send it in a single email. Is there any way to compress a folder of all of the songs to make it small enough to send?
If not are there any other methods I could use other than sending the files individually?
is if there is a way I can highlight all of my 8gigs and tell it to compress in 4.7GB increments. I know in Windows winrar you can do this but how about in Mac?

View 7 Replies View RelatedJust looking for opinions on the best software used to compress high quality video for uploading to web. I'd like to make my videos smaller in size but maintain a decent quality to the picture. I'm certain there's a thread on here somewhere, but can't seem to find it.
PS. I am running Snow Leopard (so I have quicktime), also have Final Cut Express. I know there's a free program out there I thought for doing this type of thing but can't recall the name of it?
This feature was available in Tiger and dropped in Leopard. Actually there is a compress PDF feature (either via an applescript that can be downloaded) or using Quartz filter "reduce filesize". However, when dealing with bitmap figures embedded in the PDF, both solutions in Leopard yield very dissappointing results. Whilst in Tiger, the results were outstanding for both file size reduction and maintaining the bitmap clarity.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am struggling with the best way to post HD, as well as SD videos to the web - Vimeo as well as YouTube sites. Some of my files are up to an hour long, and above. I've tried mp4, H.264 compression, multi-pass, as well as ProRes in various settings. The files are either too small or too large. I have an stand-alone Flash encoder, but it seems to take an inordinate amount of time. My computer only has a Duo Core - its the first Intel processor. Is it too slow to process these large Video files?
