Mar 13, 2009I moved "Documents and Settings" to the trash, from my windows partition. I later reformatted it, but "Documents and Settings" is still in the trash and won't go away. How do I remove it from the trash?

Mar 3, 2010I used to have a Macbook, but after two years the hard drive crash, I now have a pro. After getting the files that I needed back I went into my external hard drive that my old macbook backed up onto and tried to delete all of the old back ups so I could make room for my new computer to use. After deleting it one file is left in my trash can. It is an old back up from August and the file name ends with .inProgress.
I assume that I must have disconnected my computer or something while it was backing up, but now when I try to clear the trash it says "The operation can't be completed because the item "AGQ0qILU99QsKv" is in use." I have no idea what that item is, where it is because it doesnt show in the trash, or how to get rid of it. I have tried to secure empty trash and use a few terminal commands but nothing is working. Also it wont let me remove it from the trash. It just copies the file rather than moving it out.

May 1, 2012Despite having several files in the trash, its icon never changes (always shows an empty trash) and the "Empty Trash" option is dimmed (that is, cannot be used). OnyX ws the only solution but it's temporary. What's the fix I should apply to Mac OS X?Also, why is it that every time I want to move a file to trash I must enter my password? It's annoying to say the least.Please help me as I don't want to go through the royal pains of installing everything again, Windows-style. I think Mac OS X should be better than that.

Mar 26, 2012Sometimes items it put in the trash don't appear in the trash, although they are there. This often happens when I manually delete podcasts from iTunes, or drag an item such as a PDF from my downloads folder to the trash. The dock icon remains in it's "empty" state and bring up the trash finder window also shows that it is empty. If I restart my MacBook however, the items appear in the trash and are able to be deleted.

May 15, 2012I just upgraded to Lion 10.7.4 and am having troubles with emptying the Trash. The dialog box opens and shows the number of items to be deleted, and the blue candy cane starts. Nothing happens - no progress bar appears. If I click on the X to stop the process, it says "Stopping" but again nothing happens. I've left it overnight and nothing changes. Restarting the machine sometimes works, but often I can't restart because "Another process in in use". Only by Force Quitting the FInder will it restart.

Jun 13, 2012Cleaned up my MacBook Pro yesterday, put a lot of files in the bin. After (ish) 400 delted files the "process bar" of how much as been deleted did not move anymore. I could not abort the emptying so I had to restart the Finder. The 400 files were gone out of the bin but those files which are now still in there can simply not be deleted. Every time I try to klick "empty trash" my computer gets stuck at "preparying to emtpy trash"
I have loged out, restarted and also tried "secure empty trash" ..... all of it did not work.Every time I want to cancel the emptying it does not react and I have to restart the Finder. Yesterday the Finder even didnt restart once so I had to restart the entire system.Is there anything I can still do? Pretty unhappy witht he situation and hope all these bugs which were in the Lion update will get fixed with Mountain Lion!

I would, normally, replace the app with a copy of itself to overwrite the name but Lion won't let me delete the original because the OS needs it and like I said, the Resource lproj trick doesn't seem to work.
Is there a way to change the name of the Trash or TextEdit app?
