I'm running 10.7.3. When I want to drag something to the Trash, or delete it I get a pop-up box saying than Finder wants to make changes and I must give my password.Once I have done this the item disappears.How can I change this back to normal?

finding my preference files in the library. Now that I have found them, I notice that they are different than they were under Snow Leopard. Do I still trash some of them if I think they might be corrupted because the app is not working well or is that no longer necessary?

Despite having several files in the trash, its icon never changes (always shows an empty trash) and the "Empty Trash" option is dimmed (that is, cannot be used). OnyX ws the only solution but it's temporary. What's the fix I should apply to Mac OS X?Also, why is it that every time I want to move a file to trash I must enter my password? It's annoying to say the least.Please help me as I don't want to go through the royal pains of installing everything again, Windows-style. I think Mac OS X should be better than that.

Sometimes items it put in the trash don't appear in the trash, although they are there. This often happens when I manually delete podcasts from iTunes, or drag an item such as a PDF from my downloads folder to the trash. The dock icon remains in it's "empty" state and bring up the trash finder window also shows that it is empty. If I restart my MacBook however, the items appear in the trash and are able to be deleted.

I have an iMac Core 2 Duo running Snow Leopard V10.6.3 with 4 GB RAM... I've seen the threads regarding the inability to "Empty Trash" and the error code. When I open the Trash window, it is empty. When I place a single item into Trash, there is one item seen in the window. When I Empty Trash, there are then six items being deleted. If I place three items into Trash, then eight items are deleted... etc., etc. What are those weird ghostly five items??
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have 2011 MacBook air and I tried to empty the trash, and only one file wouldn't delete because 'the file is still in use', but the application was turned off. So then I went to finder and clicked secure empty trash, which then proceeded in emptying, but it stayed that way for a long time so I clicked close. Then, it did seem to close, but then didn't and was stuck in deleting.
At that point the Air's fans began to crank up full speed and became extremely hot. I tried to turn off but didn't work so I just put it to sleep at the moment. I'm new with Mac ( in fact this is my first Mac) so I had no clue what to do. In windows I just do ctrl+alt+delete but what should I do with Mac to close the frozen command (in this case secure empty trash). I got scared bc of the fans and the heat. What should I do?

I just upgraded to Lion 10.7.4 and am having troubles with emptying the Trash. The dialog box opens and shows the number of items to be deleted, and the blue candy cane starts. Nothing happens - no progress bar appears. If I click on the X to stop the process, it says "Stopping" but again nothing happens. I've left it overnight and nothing changes. Restarting the machine sometimes works, but often I can't restart because "Another process in in use". Only by Force Quitting the FInder will it restart.
View 2 Replies View RelatedCleaned up my MacBook Pro yesterday, put a lot of files in the bin. After (ish) 400 delted files the "process bar" of how much as been deleted did not move anymore. I could not abort the emptying so I had to restart the Finder. The 400 files were gone out of the bin but those files which are now still in there can simply not be deleted. Every time I try to klick "empty trash" my computer gets stuck at "preparying to emtpy trash"
I have loged out, restarted and also tried "secure empty trash" ..... all of it did not work.Every time I want to cancel the emptying it does not react and I have to restart the Finder. Yesterday the Finder even didnt restart once so I had to restart the entire system.Is there anything I can still do? I would, normally, replace the app with a copy of itself to overwrite the name but Lion won't let me delete the original because the OS needs it and like I said, the Resource lproj trick doesn't seem to work.

I have a folder over 1 GB (in my HDD), with Windows Executable files; along with .dmg's, a video, and a few text files.For some reason, the files just do not want to erase themselves.
