I've been trying to do a simple task - but the mac won't have it.I want to change the icons on my flash drives, using Cmd-I, then copy and paste the icon (purchased from mac), but all that comes up on the drive is a 'png' file pic.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to create a minimal recovery boot disk for SL. I've followed how-to's on creating one for 10.4 and 10.5, but so far it I couldn't get it to work with 10.6. If you have successfully done this, or can point me to a pre-made image or how-to.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo my Mac froze for some reason, while my Kingston thumb/flash drive was in. I tried to eject it, but I could only force eject (which it said may cause issues). After that, whenever I put the thumb drive in, it said something like the drive won't work and I had to copy the files to my desktop. When I go into disk utility and click repair disk, it says this: "Disk Utility stopped repairing “UNTITLED 1”: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files." I can't erase the thumbdrive, because it says I need a source, which I don't know what that means. The files are useless now as I have transferred them to a CD, so I'm fine with erasing the whole thing.

I have copied some image files (jpeg format) from a flash drive onto my imac. When I go to view the images they do not appear. When I try to copy them again, there is a message that I cannot modify invisible images. These images were originally downloaded to a windows-based computer and copied to the flash drive. Is there a way to make these image files visible? I am trying to use them for a website.

So, to all of you using Snow Leopard, especially those with a UMBP - can you post the following : Go to Activity Monitor and post the number listed below the pie chart. Here, in Leopard the number is 2.0GB but SL shows 1.75GB, and the "wired RAM" usage increases by 256MB.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems with Time Machine and a Seagate GoFlex external drive. I've partitioned the external drive as a backup startup disk and a backup particition using Time Machine. It will work fine for some time and then not function as planned.
For example today, my Software Update indicated there were available updates. One was a System Installer. I chose to update. When the update was complete, my backup was no longer available. Time Machine indicated the drive was now "read only", and that a backup could not be completed.
As I said, this external drive and the setup I have works for sometimes a month or better, and then I run into some kind of problem like this, and am forced to erase and partition the drive all over. This sure does defeat the expectations for an external drive backup.
I've contacted Seagate several times. They've had me download a utility that keeps the drive from going to sleep.

I still get near 100% cpu usage when playing HD youtube flash. Even in Snow leopard, this "issue" does not get remedied.

I'm not sure if this is a commonly known issue with Snow Leopard, but most of the time, everything works fairly well performance wise.
Other times -- while watching a video on youtube or any other site with embedded flash videos -- the video starts running REALLY choppy and will continue to do so until I completely close Safari and re-launch it.
Is this an indication of something wrong with my computer, or again, is this simply a problem with Snow Leopard that is known and will hopefully be corrected in the near future?
Anyone noticed extremely choppy flash performance? I use Safari as my browser, and in Leopard YouTube videos (for example) were smooth and fine. Now in Snow Leopard flash is very choppy indeed.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that playing YouTube Video in Safari or Google Chrome the CPU usage is not less than 70-75 % on both cores ( MacBook 2.4ghz unibody with SL 10A432 32bit kernel ).
On Firefox the CPU usage on the same YouTube video is no more than 40-45% on both cores.
Anyone else notice this ?
I guess it may happen because flash plugin is 32 bit and used in some sort of sandbox in Safari now because Safari is 64bit and flash plugin is 32 bit ( in Chrome everything run in sanbox and I got the same CPU usage on Leopard ).
Firefox is 32 bit application as Flash is and I'm guessing thats why it uses less CPU.
Isn't Snow Leopard supposed to bring hardware acceleration better to the OS? I know adobe flash has never been good in OSX but it is worse in Snow Leopard! I use SMC Fan Control to keep my temps down but the temps rise so rapidly I have to go on 6000rpm to keep it below 70 degrees ? In Leopard it was fine on 3000rpm! This is standard definition we are talking about never mind HD!

I have read the 3 or 4 discussions on flashing the 4890. I just ordered one and plan on doing a clean install of snow leopard and installing the card at the end of the week. However, some of the links from rapid share don't appear to be working. Can some one point me to where these files have moved and are there an snow leopard specific files?

What I have done already is restore my USB Flash Drive with a .dmg of Leopard using Disk Utility. The next step consists of booting Tiger into Leopard by holding down the option key at start-up and selecting my flash drive. The USB flash drive comes up on my computer as a Leopard Install DVD but when I hold in the option key during start up, I do not have an option for my flash dirve to boot.
