Windows On Mac :: Full Install Leopard / SL Disc To Run Bootcamp / Update Disc?
Oct 13, 2009Please take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.

Dec 13, 2010So I installed xp via bootcamp just fine. One problem; no drivers! I inserted the OSX install DVD in, xp did not recognize it. Under 'properties' it said it was a blank cd with 0 megabytes on it and 0 megabytes of storage. If I opened the DVD there was nothing there. I did get this CD from someone else, it is the 'official' OSX Snow Leopard DVD copied onto another cd, but theoretically everything is there. I am running a non unibody macbook pro 15", might I be able to download these drivers elsewhere?

Jul 22, 2009I have just installed a windows vista partition on my 17 inch macbook pro and when I insert the mac osx installation dvd in order to install the mac drivers the on the windows partition the d drive shows that something has been inserted but the cd has no name and whenever I try to click on it says nothing is on the cd. However when I insert the dvd in the mac osx partition it reads the dvd fine. Why is this? There is a scratch on the dvd but what difference would it make if the mac partition is reading it fine?

AFAIK, I will be needing the snowleopard installation cd for the drivers in windows after I finish installing windows(xp). However, I bought this MBP from ebay so it came with leopard cd only but with snowleopard installed on the macchine.
So I am wondering if leopard cd works as well to obtain drivers for the windows?

May 12, 2010I got my new Macbook today. I've reformatted and installed Snow Leopard. Then I set up Boot Camp and installed Windows 7. I installed all the drivers under Windows 7 using the Snow Leopard install disc. One problem that remains is under Windows 7, I can't tap the trackpad to click. I have to use a mouse.Anyone know of a fix? Can't find it under Apple Support at all.

I previously was not getting the correct drive size in bootcamp, was only seeing 595g instead of 640g total partition size. when i look at finder it shows 639 gigs, so correct filesize. When i look at disk utility through utilites and also when i boot from the install disk, they both say 639gigs as well. When I look in grandperspective it also shows only 454gigs used, while spotlight is showing 486gigs used. When i add up all the items on my hard drive

Oct 30, 2009I have a unibody 13" MacBook running Leopard with Bootcamp running Windows Vista. I want to try and make the move this weekend to both Snow Leopard AND Windows 7.
First, what is my best plan of attack here? Will Snow Leopard install just fine and ignore my current 25gb partition of Vista currently set up? (i.e. not effect it at all). I would assume so but I'm not totally sure.
Second, what is the best way to go about installing Windows 7? I am a university student and I will be getting the $30 upgrade version of Windows 7. I've heard that doing a clean install is the best way to go instead of going over vista, so I hear I need to make an iso out of the upgrade version and use that?
I'm planning on doing Snow Leopard first, then Windows 7 second as this seems like the most logical order for me.

I took windows off and now snow leopard wont work at all. The screen just goes black and it says a few words like install. How do i get snow leopard to start when I turn my computer on?

Oct 16, 2009I can install snow leopard clean on a fresh drive on my MBP with my upgrade disk. It is the disk that came as a drop-in dvd with the MBP, along with its original install disks. If I install windows using bootcamp assistant, do I use that disk when it asks for the drivers, etc. during installation? Or do I use my leopard install disks that came with my computer? Is the snow leopard bootcamp process any different from the process in leopard? I had windows Vista on there fine before upgrading my hard drive and going to snow leopard. Jan 13, 2010I'm by no means very tech savvy. When I tried to install Windows XP (Home Edition) on my Macbook Pro via bootcamp, I experienced a bit of trouble. I partitioned the hard drive as instructed, then inserted the Windows XP installation disk and hit continue. This is when the computer more or less took over and started doing it's own thing. After a while the screen went blue and the windows install prompts were flashing across the screen. At this point I'm still thinking all is good; I accepted the terms of use etc.
However, once the install was complete, it kept asking me to insert the Windows XP Home edition CD. Even though it was already in the disk drive. I tried to hit continue but it kept taking me back to the screen asking for the disk to be inserted. Eventually I quit out of the install (upon doing so the screen prompted me the install did not work), ejected the windows install cd, and restarted my computer back into osx. Is the newest version of osx, snow leopard, not compatible with microsoft xp? Do I need to purchase vista or windows 7 if I am to run boot camp successfully?

Everything worked great and upon starting Windows 7 for the first time my network is working, the ATI 4670 drivers seem to be installed automatically and also sound drivers seem to be there, everything of this Windows 7 did automatically. So my question is: why do I need the Bootcamp drivers from the Snow Leopard disk, what extra value will they provide? Can it hurt my computer all togehter if I skip the drivers from the Snow Leopard disk? will it perhaps have drivers other than above that are absolutely needed for the system to function properly?

Aug 29, 2009After installing Snow Leopard, the volume icon for my Windows XP Bootcamp partition has changed back to the default Hard Disk icon. As it is formatted NTFS, I am unable to change the icon within OS X. I used to change it by applying the desired icon to a memory stick, then within Windows, copy the hidden icon files from the memory stick on the base directory of the 'C:' Drive.
When in Leopard, it would recognise the icon that I had applied to it - but ever since I installed Snow Leopard, this trick no longer works and I cannot find a way to change it (other than to change my Bootcamp partition to FAT32, so I can apply an Icon within OS X - but this means reformatting and is slightly OTT for just an icon ) This occurs both after doing a Upgrade install on my MacBook Pro, and a clean install on my iMac, both with already existing Bootcamp partitions. I might try by making a new Bootcamp partition now Snow Leopard is installed, but I don't see how that would be any different to the ones I currently have.

Aug 29, 2009I have a 2007 Intel MBP, running Leopard. I purchased the family version of Snow Leopard. When I tried to install it, it just spins the disc for a minute, makes the noise like it's trying to read it and then spits it out. All other discs work fine with my MBP so I know it is not the disc drive itself. I have all software "up to date." My brother installed SL on both of his MBs, one newer than mine and one older, just fine (with the same disc). I haven't seen anything out there with this issue so I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone knows how to resolve this issue (beyond taking it back to Apple and exchanging).
