I have a MAC Book and am trying to upload some files from an external drive (OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro) to my notebook but am having trouble with it. When I plug it in, the drive doesn't even appear as an icon on my desktop. The drive works, is charged and is on.

I have a 2010 Mac Book Pro that I just downloaded the new OS X Lion for the upgrades ext... I haven't had any other problems except that before I downloaded the Lion my Mac would recognize my external hard drive (WD passport). And now it doesn't, I even go to the finder and it doesn't even show up under "computer" to make sure there isn't anything wrong with my external hard drive I plugged it into another mac that doesn't have Lion and it would work. My external drive has everything 1TG of everything.

When I travel I would generally take a small travel drive that is clone of my white MacBook as a rescue drive. Now that I have the MBA I am wondering if I could just clone my 11.6 MBA to a 64 GB flash drive and then if the worst happened I could reverse clone from the flash drive to the MBA.
View 8 Replies View RelatedLast week I happened to buy a new 16 gig pen drive to backup important stuff... then I started using time machine and everything was OK till today. Now whenever I pop in the flash drive to the USB port, my macbook won't recognize it and after a few seconds the drive will get really, really insanely-absurdely hot to the point that I will remove it afraid of something worse happening.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 12" PowerBook G4 that stopped recognizing the factory hard-drive some time back. I have a G4 iBook so I was not in a hurry to look into it. I removed the old hard-drive and replaced it with a Scorpio drive of 60GB. It still fails to recognize the hard-drive. If I run the Apple Care diagnostics it hangs at the start-up while 'scanning for volume' or something like that. t hangs for 15-minutes or more and never moves past. The CD-RW drive is fine as I can boot the machine into the OSX installer up to the point where it asks for a destination...at which point nothing is selectable. It is a 867MHz G4 PowerBook with 768MG RAM. This is a fantastic notebook and I would hate to see it remain in this state. Does anyone have any ideas? I replaced the IDE cable and hard-drive with all new Mac OEM parts (except the HD) and reset the PRAM or PMU or what ever it is called...with no results.

View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday, (Mar 28,2012) Finder was listing my external drive but when I went to eject the drive, it no longer showed in Finder. I cannot eject the drive properly. It is showing on my Desktop. I've done a disk utility verfy disk and it is recognized and no problem was found. I tried a new USB cable and the old Fire Wire (which doesn't work??). I used a different USB port but nothing seems to work. I've also tried restarting. I am running a MacBook Pro with 10.6.8.

I have a late 2009 15 inch mbp. I upgraded the hard drive to a 640g and has been fine for a while. I previously was not getting the correct drive size in bootcamp, was only seeing 595g instead of 640g total partition size. when i look at finder it shows 639 gigs, so correct filesize. When i look at disk utility through utilites and also when i boot from the install disk, they both say 639gigs as well. When I look in grandperspective it also shows only 454gigs used, while spotlight is showing 486gigs used. When i add up all the items on my hard drive

I bought a Mini just a couple weeks ago and a LaCie 2big Thunderbolt drive. It's been working flawlessly, but today it doesn't recognize the drive and doesn't recognize even having Thunderbolt support and I can find nothing on Lacie's site or Apple's regarding this issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a recent (3 month old) 13 inch MBP with the 512GB SSD. I'm considering a 13 inch MBA with the 256GB NAND flash drive. Obviously I'll have to manage with less storage space, but apart from that, what is the difference between the two drives? Will the newer one in the Air be faster, as it is an Apple custom component rather than an off the shelf part?
I think the new Air is great value, BTW. The SSD in my MBP cost a fortune (but it is really really fast). Also, before anyone says "just keep the MBP", my assistant wants one, so I'll be buying either another MBP or a MBA anyway.
So which is faster MBP with standard 512GB SSD or new MBA with standard 256GB NAND flash?
I have a new Macbook Pro and I also have a sandisk cruzer flash drive. I use a PC at work and when I brought the drive home to do some work on the Mac absolutely nothing happens. Be easy on me. This is my first mac and I am new at this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy PNY attache hook 16gb flash drive was working for about 2 hours with my macbook, but I ran into a problem with itunes and was forced to restart my macbook pro. The usb was only plugged in, no files on it, none in transfer. After the restart I pluged the usb back in and it no longer shows up, I tried using "diskutil list" in terminal and it didn't show up. I have tried all the usb ports on my macbook and it still does not show. Did I somehow corrupt the drive so much that it doesn't even register in terminal? Should I try to get a refund? Or, can I fix this some way on a software/firmare level?

I have a Macbook pro (OSX 10.4.11) and all of a sudden it stopped detecting a fairly new Jump/Flash drive that up until now worked fine. The icon doesn't show up on the desktop or in the Macintosh HD window.
The flash drive has "Dane-Elec" printed on it and is 4GB. I've tried it a number of times and nothing. The drive does still work on other computers, and my usb port is working properly with other devices.
The flash drive doesn't seem to show up in System Profiler and my Disk Utility has been "gathering information" for about 5 minutes now." Everything else is working fine with the notebook.
I have a 1gb flash drive that i've connected to my macbook. There are no files on the flash drive yet it shows that there is only 97mb's available on the flash drive.
This is so odd to me, but am sure i'm not the 1st person to come across such a situation.
I have a cd copy of ubuntu that works fine but is really slow.
I installed to a usb drive multiple times and keep running into the same problem: The flash drive shows up as "Legacy OS" in rEFIT and boots into my windows partition when I select it. It doesnt show up when I hold alt/option on startup. It also doesnt show up in the startup disc menu in system preferences even though its on the desktop.
I have used different usb drives and, like I said, have installed it multiple times. Every site I have gone to uses the same installation method (using ubuntu from a cd) and I dont understand why it wont work.
I have posted this probably in other sections and no one ever responds so Im hoping this will change.
I am trying to copy a document folder from my MacBook Pro to a flash drive, but can't figure out how to do it.Â

I work for a post secondary school with online formatted classes. We send flash drives out to students to access video content when they are on the go, but it was pretty much made for Windows based computers. I have had a few students now who have Macs and cannot open the content or are getting a message stating the drive is not formated. I see many instructions on how to format a flash drive from a Mac to work on a Mac & PC but nothing about being able to format the flash drive using a PC so it can work on a Mac.Â

I noticed the new Macbook Pro with Retina display has flash memory instead of a Hard drive. I love the new features and I want to buy it but I'm very skeptical of this flash memory. Can someone please help explain it to me. Is it better than have a hard drive in your computer?
