I left my macbook pro open for along period of time, I am not sure if its as gone to"power save" mode. But it was not in sleep mode. After I open it some of the letters in my mac book pro is not working anymore. Num lock is not working, plus sign is not working, number six is not workingletter "y" "m" "h" is not working too

Text looks correct on the screen, but a few letters get replaced in the printed copy with the preceding letter, so M sometimes prints as N, or e prints as d! Some M's and e's print correctly, same font, same page. I've rebooted, deleted preferences, restored fonts from Time Machine backup, no change. I've restarted the printer. But if I print to a pdf file, the pdf is correct, and Preview prints the pdf correctly.

Installing 10.6 on my iMac has killed some basic system keyboard functions, including the arrow keys and all Command+ combos. It's the same on both the wired and BT keyboards.

I bought an iMac on dec, 2010 it came with snow leopard and a wired aluminum keyboard, everything was good until dec, 2011 when my keyboard suddenly stopped working, I took it to an apple store and they replaced it, everything was fine until last month when my new keyboard stopped working again.
I have an old macbook (1st gen of intel-based macbooks) and if I connect the keyboard to that macbook it works just fine, I have checked and all the USB ports on my iMac and they work but when I connect the keyboard it just doesn't recognizes it as a keyboard (or as anything because it doesn't show on system profiler). I have connected another keyboard I own (a logitech wireless one) and the imac recognizes it, I don't know what to do.
Btw, if I disconnect the keyboard for a day or two it works again when I connect it to the iMac, also If I use the USB ports attached to the keyboard I get an error that the USB is taking too much power and it shuts down (and then the keyboard stops working again on the iMac)

On 10.5 I used to have time machine backing up to a remote smb share using the time machine hacks to create a sparsebundle image on the smb share. No longer working with 10.6 - always get an error. Why apple couldn't make time machine get along with smb shares natively out of the box is simply beyond me.

I'm using 1 Time machine drive (WD My Passport Studio 500 GB FW 800 for Mac) for my two machines, MacBook Pro (June 09, upgraded from Leopard with Snow Leopard Up to date disc) and my MacBook white (Late 2007, upgraded from Leopard with Snow Leopard retail disc). On my MacBook white, when I plug in the TM drive via USB, and when I click on the TM icon in the menubar, it says "Calculating changes (or similar)... (1, 2, 3, and so on %) until 100 % and the backup works just fine. But when I plug my TM drive onto my MacBook Pro (via FW), it says "Calculating changes... 1%" and it remains stuck on those 1%, but then after a while starts the backup properly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had my HDD replaced after a failure, and reinstalled 10.6.8 using Carbon Copy Cloner. The new drive came from Apple, and had 10.5.8 pre-installed (the OS that my late 2008 MBP came with), but CCC did what seemed to me to be an excellent job restoring. The clone was right at about two weeks prior to the old HDD failure, so once I cloned over, I only had to sync up with Dropbox, and manually move a handful of files (really from just a couple of folders for work) for things to be just as they were leading up to the failure. Here's what's happened (roughly) over the past week with TM:
1. Slow backups. Slow as in 1-2 KB/minute. This all starts with TM "calculating changes" which means about 20 minutes of crawling through and re-indexing(?) directories to look for changes. This happens each time.
2. Backups come in successive pairs. Time Machine Buddy shows this. One backup ends, having copied ~277,000 files (not a typo), then a second one begins immediately after, copies ~255,000 files (also not a typo), then either thins and/or deletes expired files.
3. #2 happens over the course of 2 1/2 hours, reliably.
4. After #2, the next backup comes about 2 hours later, starting all over again. Mere KB take the full 2 1/2 hours.
5. After each of the last backups, I have MORE space reported as available on the external drive. It seems to randomly delete backups from roughly 1 month ago.
Here's what I have tried:
1. Delete the TM prefs file in my user folder (not /)
2. Repaired the disk - things were very screwed up, with links needing repair all over the place. Thought this would solve things, but it didn't.
3. Hid the external from Spotlight's indexing
4. Deleted backups (via the TM interface -> "delete backups" option, NOT manually) after disk repair, in the event/hopes that initial backups following the new HDD replacement were bad.
5. Repaired permissions, etc.
6. Console doesn't throw what appear to be any errors. Just shows the successive backups mentioned above, the hundreds of thousands of files copied, and that TM deleted something each time.

Tried to turn off computer and it kept prompting me to force quite various applications. I have since restarted the computer but now am getting this error when trying to open Finder. I have looked through several discussions and unfortunately am not an apple expert so much of what I am reading is foreign to me.I have opened the Terminal and entered a prompt that made all of my desktop docs and finder visable, but as soon as I closed out the Terminal it all disappeared again.Can anyone point me in the right direction - step by step - to get Finder back up and running.To my knowledge all other applications seem to be working as normal.FYI I do have a few extermal items attached to the Mac. I've already tried basic methods of resolving this issue i.e. resetting and unplugging and replugging the keyboard and my keyboard still won't type letters or numbers. The only kind of response I get by typing the keys is the keyboard will performing shortcut commands like save and open, etc. without holding control or alt, it does it when I press the letter keys by themselves.

Used to run Flip4Mac Pro Version 2.2.3.7 with Quicktime 7 Pro on Leopard.Upgraded to Snow Leopard and got the 'Quicktime must be installed on this machine...' messages. OK, fair enough. Known issue.
Installed the Snow Leopard compatible 2.3.0.11-BETA with Pro licence but now have lost the ability to trim movies once they are opened in the Quicktime X window. However, if I navigate and open with Quicktime 7 Pro I can trim them.
Can anyone explain I should expect to happening and/or if this a bug or what?
Maybe I'm just not used to it, but one annoying quirk I have found with mac keyboards (I recently bought a 20 inch iMac) is the keyboard is always giving me double letters when I type that I always have to go back and edit out.
I already went to system preferences and changed sensitvity and repeat settings to the slowest.
It's ridiculous in how inaccurate it is; has anyone else experienced this problem and/or have any suggestions? Just in writing this paragraph I've had to fix at least 10 times.
No other keyboard has given me such fits before.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving been a mac owner for a few years now, I guess it actually shows the quality of the product that this is the first time I've had to post on this site.I've recently upgraded from my 2008 model MacBook to an early 2011 model MacBook Pro 17" with Lion. This machine was brand new when I purchased it, and is a very lovely bit of kit.
The problem comes from the sleep functionality. Approximately one time of three, when I resume from sleep, the keyboard will be malfunctioning. What I mean by this is that when I type letters, they come out as symbols instead. I haven't been sharp enough to get a direct mapping of A-Z yet (I will do next time), but these aren't the 'ALT' key symbols, they're more like this (which is what I typed into Notepad last time this happened)In order to resolve this, I need to restart the computer, which, thus far, has resolved the issue every time. That said, it's a bit of a pain, so would like to know what's going on and if there is any way to prevent it.
All the software on the mac is up to date at time of writing, there have been no expansions to the machine (yet), so it's exactly as shipped. It's the 2.2GHz i7 Quad Core device, and is the first one supporting the thunderbolt graphics connector. Could it be a hardware problem (if so, I want to return it asap to get it sorted).
