I'm trying to update my Macbook Pro to the new 10.7.4 I have downloaded the update twice (no interruptions during download) and when i click to restart the computer to install the update, the update dosent install. I keep getting an error message saying the download is corrupted, when the update tries to unpack to install.

I have been trying for weeks to do a software update from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8. Whenever I install the update and restart my computer, I get the apple logo loading screen and then it locks up on the infamous blank gray screen. I have been able to get back to 10.6 with the install CD, and can then update all the way to 10.6.7 I have tried everything listed here:[URL]To no avail . including a clean install When I start up in verbose mode the last line of text I get is the following, after this it's the gray screen:

I was using garage band when the screen popped up saying that i need to restart my computer. i tried holding down the power button but the screen is frozen. the computer is making a quiet clicking sound. if i close the laptop the light stays on and the sound persists.

Then I see the MBP with the blue screen for a while with no sign of activity. I press the power button, goes black and that is it. It won't want to start up again. The hard drive tries to read or something inside moves just once and that is it. Is not the hard drive broken, there is not reason and is not the sound of a broken drive, it sounds like the optical drive too. But the thing is that there is not activity, no sound of any sort. I disconnected the battery, unplugged the machine, power up, reconnect the battery and power and nothing. Is dead. The power light is on. It seems the software update did something to the computer. It has been on my desk for a week with Skype and messenger mostly.

I am running bootcamp and windows works just fine. Also not sure if it makes a difference but i jailbroke my iphone right before i restarted and my iphone was connected so im not sure if that makes a difference when it boots up.
it would be very annoying to have to reformat.
Also if i do have to reformat can i leave windows intact?

View 21 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 MacPro Octo 2.8GHz. Whilst I was in Vista64 (a separate drive, not visualization) I was playing a halflife game called day of defeat. The game froze twice, requiring a crtl-alt-del to release it and stop the application that was not working. When I then rebooted into OSX, the "You need to restart your computer" screen appeared in 4 languages, which I believe is the Kernel panic screen. I've done the hardware test that reports no problems (D key). I've tried re-installing the operating system, (C key), no go just panics. I've tried a safe boot (shift) lots of disk activity followed by a panic. I've even reset the PRAM, no effect.
The queer thing is it will boot into Vista64, but there is some screen corruption whilsts its booting, but once in, it works OK with the exception of playing any 3D games, they will not launch (re-installed drivers). Vista reports that there is no 3D hardware acceleration. Does OSX require 3D just to get past the login screen? I've removed some ram and removed all the other hard drives. I'm beginning to think the 8800GT is playing up, otherwise why would vista still work?, but not 3D games? Is there any software I can use in Vista to check the 8800GT? I also noticed that it seemed to be taking longer and longer to shut down.

After getting to the installation screen, I selected my time machine as my system restore source. However my system restore source is 10.6 snow leopard disc. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro, which has been upgraded recently to Mavericks. My problem is that randomly (usually due to pressing a button or using the mouse) my computer will black out and restart. I was having these intermittent kernel panics earlier this year and took it to a repair shop that said it was not a hardware issue and clean-installed the OSX, but the problem has persisted. The only difference is that before it would just restart while now I get the gray "Your computer was restarted because of a problem" error screen.

I ran Software Update to install the update to Safari (4.0.5), and after it installed, it went into the portion where it needs to restart the computer. Where it installs after the OS shuts down, the update FAILED, and the computer restarted. After restart, Safari and Mail will NOT open, they go straight to the crash report prompt. Airport is connected, but opening Chrome will not get online. I'm led to believe the update corrupted something, because everything errors out, and I can't get anything done.

I installed the software update on my MacBook and it never restarted. I have tried most easy fixes but nothing seemed to help. For some bizzare reason my Mac wont restart or update, not to sure when the problem started as I normally just put it into sleep! But basically when I click update it says the updates need the Mac to be restarted, I click ok. It basically logs out and goes to the Username screen to login. Same story when trying to restart/shutdown; just goes to the login screen.
I'm tempted to do a OS Wipe and start Fresh! However it's going to take 3 hours to download the latest OS! Patients isn't my strongest point !
