MacBook Pro :: Computer Will Black Out And Restart
Sep 11, 2014
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro, which has been upgraded recently to Mavericks. My problem is that randomly (usually due to pressing a button or using the mouse) my computer will black out and restart. I was having these intermittent kernel panics earlier this year and took it to a repair shop that said it was not a hardware issue and clean-installed the OSX, but the problem has persisted. The only difference is that before it would just restart while now I get the gray "Your computer was restarted because of a problem" error screen.
I was software updating my brothers computer and I shut it down because he was going to bed and I turned it back on. It asked me to restart the computer and I did and a black shade saying to restart it came up again... What should I do? I have shut it off and on a zillion times and still the black shade with weird text in the background is still happening.
Everytime I turn it on I get a black box asking to shut down or restart the mac. I have managed to get it to turn on to powersave and managed to update the software. Thought it might help but just made it worse - it won't boot up at all now past an apple symbol with a little swirly thingy underneath (I apologise now for my lack of intelligence when it comes to computers/knowledge/names of things!) The first time I managed to boot the computer up it came up with the grey screen and a little folder flashing between a face and a question mark which I assume meant it couldn't find anything but that appears to have gone away now. I bought this computer new from Apple about 2 - 3 years ago and no disks were provided with it.
Whenever I open my mac mini it comes up with the same message "You need to restart your computer hold down the power button or press restart" in four different languages.
Tried to restart didn't work. Light is on, but nothing makes noise or anyhting. Been charging it for hours so it has power. Tested the chord on my ther computer and it worked
I have a MacBook C2D 2GHz, 4gigs of ram from mid 2007. It has snow leo v. 10.6.4.
I cant remember when the problem appeared but maybe 6 months ago.
Every time the mac is rebootet or shutdown the screen goes black the sleep light stays on but I can hear the chime and cd drive make shot start up sound.
My mac wont on (goes to black screen) after a gray bar that usually shows after restart has been loaded. What should I do?I already tried the safe mode and it's not working ...
I was using garage band when the screen popped up saying that i need to restart my computer. i tried holding down the power button but the screen is frozen. the computer is making a quiet clicking sound. if i close the laptop the light stays on and the sound persists.
My 2009 MBP would have problems shutting down or restarting. On a shutdown, it would appear to off, black screen and no lights, but if you tried pressing the power button nothing happened. I had to hold the power button to turn it completely, then press it again to startup.Restarts had the same behaviour, it would get to a black screen and I would have to hold the power button and then press it again to startup.I ended up taking this MBP back for another problem, and they replaced it with a 2011 MBP (since I had recurring logic board that failed a few times).Anyway, I swapped the SSD from my old mac into the new one, and I have the exact same behaviour!!Seems to be some corrupt settings or something. So I booted from a Mac installation disc, wiped my hard drive and reinstalled the OS, then I restored from Time Machine, and unticked the option to restore settings.I want to also add, that my backlit keyboard isn't working either.I tried resetting the SMC, but the power light on my charger didn't cycle orange/green, so I'm not sure if it worked. I tried multiple time, following Apple instructions.I also reset the PRAM, which did work.
Info: MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3), 16GB RAM, OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 240
I just having problem with starting my Macboook. First, at start screen (gray background with the apple logo) appears pink/red horizontal lines over all the screen. Then, when i'm using my computer, screen goes black for no reason and i need to force restart to turn on the Mac.I can't believe this is happening to a "HIGH QUALITY" expensive computer. This seems happening to 2011 Macbook Pros...
I accidentally connected my wife's MacBook Air to my docking station at work today. Nothing seemed to happen so I undocked it and the computer displayed a black screen and I could see and move the cursor using the trackpad. I then tried shutting down by holding the power button for 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 1 min, etc. Nothing worked and it's stuck on the black screen so I can't use Yosemite's menu to shut down or restart. When I leave the computer idle for around a minute, the cursor disappears but it will reappear after pressing keys on the keyboard.
So ever since about 3-4 months ago, I'll get an error message on my Mac stating that I need to restart my computer. I lose all control and my only option really is to hold the power button down and restart it. I then Googled the issue and found this out. [URL]. No now my question is, do I do a clean install of my OS? Can Can I reinstall and then use time machine to restore my computer? I'm guessing that would give me the same problem as before. Any advice would be great! By the way.. I have a 2010 MacBook Pro i5 so its still really new. This problem happens maybe once every 2 months depending on how hard I'm using it.
What does this error message mean? I have had my MBA since Feb, and never had this error. I get the error, in several languages, and the computer is frozen at that point. A restart gets me back up and running until it happens again, usually within; an hour or so. Always while using Safari.
I recently got a MacBook from my school. Last night it was freezing quite a bit so I shut it down. This morning when I boot it up I get a screen saying 'you need to restart you computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again'. Each time I do this though I get the same screen. I think the start up disk for the computer is at my school. is there anyway I can get it working just for today? I have also tried holding down F8 as I start it.
So I did read though the previous forum relating to this problem. None of the posters were having the exact issue I am, and I could not find a solution within.
my hardware: powerbook G4. 1.33GHz Power PC. (upgraded to) 2GB DDR SDRAM. (just upgraded to) 320GB WD HDD
my OS: Just installed 10.4.11
Here's the scenario (I hope someone can help): Several months ago my poor baby took a dive off a counter onto the tile floor, while running. Never before this did I see the "Kernal Panic" restart screen.
Immediately following the fall, I get the error if the computer is bumped, moved or if I put weight on the keyboard (palms).
I feared it was a HDD issue so I hastily replaced the toshiba 60GB HD with a WD320 HD. And at the same time I upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11.
The computer seemed fine for a couple weeks, now I am getting the error again with increasing frequency. Mostly when I put pressure on the keyboard (palms).
What I tried: new HD, new OS, checked the RAM to see if it had come loose in the fall.
Could it be my video card? Is it more likely hardware or software?
i Have a 2.0Ghz Unibody macbook and lately ive been getting the rainbow pinwheel more often especially when using the new beta safari browser could that be the cause? and also when i try to restart my computer to boot into Vista through bootcamp it acts like its going to shutdown and restart but then it just freezes and i get a black spiral like the gray one that shows when you first start up osx, but then nothing happens and i have to force shutdown by holding down the power button.
i have a 2 year old Silver Macbook 2.4 (i think!) anyway i havent touched it for ages because of a problem. It wont start up! Heres what happens: I turn the computer on (it can still charge) it starts to go into its white loading screen with the funny rotating loading wheel and all of a sudden this DOS like command prompt pops up with what looks like gibberish computer talk i dont understand except the word error. Then straight after the command prompt shows this transparent big window comes up with a power button logo and says " Please Restart Your Computer" problem is i do restart the computer and it does this everytime i cant get to the profile screen or anything. Any help is appreciated i jus came to you guys b4 the shops cause i thought maybe i could fix it. Im thinkin its a software problem hopefully i wont have to reinstall OSX leopard
I am using mac os x version 10.5.8 my processor is 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo memory is 2gb 66mhz ddr2 sdram
My question is i want to restart the computer back to factory defauls as it still has old users info and userid. they did not give me any back up disk or anything to restore the machine with. This is my first mac computer and i bought it to sync with my ipad and use for entertainment. Right now it won't let me open itunes because i need to download quicktime 7.7. I feel like im lost and i just want to start from scratch.
I have a macbook pro, bought it May last year(2008). I don't know much about computers, but I loved the transition between pc and mac, had no trouble with it, loved to work with it, until now. I had noticed it became slower like 3 weeks ago, and a week ago, it started to freeze up on me followed by a message that said please restart your computer by pressing the power button and the screen becomes dark. When I try to restart it again, it takes a while because it shuts down again and again, until the 10th time it works. The store told me to clean intall, which I did yesterday, it seemed to have worked, it was faster for sure, but today it happened again, 3 times! Has this happened to anyone? Does somebody know what to do?
I just replaced my SATA drive. When I went to restart my computer I got a flashing folder with a question mark in it. What is happening and what to do now?
Recently my Mac Pro has been going to a black screen when idle for a while and I need to power off using the power button and restart. It's not set to ever go to sleep but if I use the sleep function under the Apple, it functions as it should, waking when I touch a key (although I don't let it sit for a while before I wake it). When it is in the black screen mode, it still is performing Time Machine backups.
I have a first gen MBA. It is 1.6Ghz with 2GB of Ram. I am trying to watch the NCAA tournament on MMOD and the quality is terrible. It gets so choppy and I often have to quit Safari or Firefox and even restart the computer. It usually starts off ok but after a few minutes it becomes unwatchable.
What is wrong? I am not running anything by the OS and the browser. It isn't my internet as it makes no difference if I use wireless or ethernet and my download speeds are about 10-15Mbps. I don't have any problems watching streaming on my 5 yr old Dell.
I was using my MacBook Pro , which I only bought a week ago , when the screen suddenly went black and the computer seemed to power down , when this happened it was on 40% battery , I plugged In the MagSafe it didn't seem to light but when I looked closely it was on but it was very dim and flashing green and orange . When I put my ear to the case I can hear a faint noise.
