Software :: Photoshop Preview Icons Suddenly Go Back To Generic?

Apr 18, 2005

in all my finder windows, randomly mind you, as not all PS file icons went to that faceless (graphic) green shaded generic icon of Photoshop CS? It's rather annoying when looking through files. Double click in the finder (list) and they all show the proper larger thumbnail preview, but many of smaller icons are again, generic, but weirdly not all. I tried reinstall of PS and it did nothing. It seems to have made no difference if the jpegs were created in PS 7 or PS CS. Seems random Btw, I'm 85% sure this happened after updating to (OS X) 10.3.9. DiskWarrior, Applejack, Permissions all been run. I've looked under Finder prefs and file handling prefs in PS all say to show the icon.

I've tried it on two laptops and both have the problem.

Software :: Icons Disappearing From System / Unable To Open Picture In Preview

Mar 29, 2008

Ok I have been trying to find the reason why this is happening. I am having an issue with the icons disappearing, the file is still there and you can click on it if you click on the words, but the icon is not there just the icon is gone. The icon that is not showing up is the folder icon primarily. I have searched several different sites and can not find an answer to my problem. I have included a link to view what my desktop looks like with the files pictured so you get an idea. URL

I have tried to do the equivalent of a (rebuild desktop) desktop reset which was a program I downloaded from apple: URL

It did not help either and after installing that and doing the reset. Now when I go to open a picture, it opens in color sync instead of preview. The only way I can open a picture in preview is to open preview and then open a picture through it. It is like color sync is the default for some reason. Does someone know how to fix this? But my main concern is tis icon issue I am having. I don't know what to do as it is making it very hard to work. This even carries over to my external drives when hooked up. I need help as I do not know why it is doing this. : (

As far as other information, I just installed Tiger a few months ago if that helps any and this is on a mac mini. Other than that everything has been the same. I have relaunched the finder through opt+cmd+esc but it is not available to relaunch through right clicking the icon on the dock. Also it no longer allows me to drag a picture file over a program like Photoshop in the dock to open it in Photoshop. What is going on here? This getting crazy!!

OS X :: Bug In Snow Leopard's Preview?

Oct 29, 2009

Snow Leopard's Preview can no longer do a search for dollar amounts accurately. This worked just fine in Leopard, but no longer works in Snow Leopard. Go ahead and download a PDF of your most recent bank statement, or any PDF that has a bunch of dollar amounts in it. Then, do a find for one of the dollar amounts. For example, do a find for: 50.00

Preview will no longer find a match for 50.00... instead, it will find any instance of "50" or "00" in your entire PDF file. It uses the decimal point as some sort of a delimiter, and it makes Preview believe that you are doing 2 completely separate searches.

OS X :: Reinstalling To Get Clean System - Need To Back Up?

Dec 26, 2010

I want to reinstall OSX for the first time because I mainly want to have a clean system, to get rid of all the files that have not been deleted when I remove some applications. Basically I want all apps removed when reinstalled complete. I've read OSX reinstall its different then windows, but I want to make sure I can do this clean reinstall. I want to know if the other documents and files will remain on my hdd as I don't have an external disc to back up. Also the system/the internet does not run as fast as those in apple store, this may be because of little snitch, hard drive space, or others.

1. I cannot crop multiple pages anymore. There just isn't that option in Inspector or anywhere else. I can only crop one page at a time.
2. Not only can I not crop more than one page at a time, but cropping doesn't actually delete the date. I can go to "View | PDF Display | Crop Box" and see what I just cropped!

OS X :: Preview Not Displaying Images Since Snow Leopard

Oct 13, 2009

Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I've been noticing that Preview does not display images. A box will open and the background will be there, but no picture. I can scan images, and the automatic preview image that pops up is blank. I can download images from the internet, and they will appear as icons on my desktop, but when I double click them I get an appropriately sized blank Preview box. I can save the image to a thumb drive and put it on my girlfriend's computer (we run identical iMacs, for reference), and it will appear on her computer, but she is using the Adobe suite.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Preview - Saving Pdf To Jpeg?

Mar 28, 2012

I have a lot of multipage pdf's that I need to reduce in file size. They are scanned pdf's so no actual editable content.

If i select a page and 'save as' I can save to jpeg where I can reset the dpi of the page (currently 300dpi). This is Fine, but I need to do it to all the pages of the pdf. If I select all pages 'save as' will only save out one page and not all.

If I print and choose 'pdf to jpeg', It will save out all pages but I don't get the ability to reduce to dpi and the output jpgs are still huge. Is there a way to save to pages out in one go to jpeg where I can adjust the dpi setting?

I have tried using the reduce file size option, but the resulting pdf has lost too much quality and is unreadable. Once I have the reduced jpegs it's easy enough to reimport into preview and save as a pdf.
