Nov 24, 2009i am currently on my imac 5.1 intel core 2 duo 2.16ghz. my 2 year old son managed to change my screen into negative color this includes everything from start up picture to screensaver to photo booth to skype etc etc etc. i have tried everything to get my screen back to normal and can't do it hoping you have any idea on how to fix this

OS X :: Finder Won't Display Folder Size In Size Column Or Info Window?
Feb 5, 2010Normally, the Finder window will display a folder's size in the Size column. However, I have one folder which shows as "Zero KB" in the Size column. When I open the General Info window, the Size reads as "Zero KB on disk (Zero bytes) for 0 items."
In order to get the folder size I have to go into the folder, select all folders, then with either the Summary Info or Inspector window, it'll show the folder size ("185.32 GB on disk").
Why is this occurring in only this folder? Is it because it's a large folder?
I'm running Snow Lep 10.6.2. The folder is on an external drive in FAT32 format.

Hardware :: Original 802.11n Extreme Base Station Disk Size?
Mar 28, 2010I'm trying to connect a new MyBook Essential 2TB drive to my original 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station, and for some reason it keeps telling me there's an issue with the disk, despite being fine in OS X. Was there a limit to how big a disk could be? I have two 1TB MyBooks connected to it now with no issues, not sure why the 2TB drive has problems. Firmware 7.4.2

OS X :: File Size Limit For Icon Preview?
Jun 8, 2010I'm relatively new to using a Mac seriously, having just acquired a lovely new MBP with Snow Leopard installed. I may be missing something obvious, but is there a way to limit the icon preview feature to just showing previews for files less than a certain size? My background is with Linux, and KDE provides a configurable file size cut off above which icon previews are not shown.
I ask because I've got a folder full of large (ie 16GB) ASCII files full of output from some scientific algorithms. Whenever I browse to that folder, the Quick Look Helper eats up all 8GB of my system memory before the OS kills it off and it moves on to the next file. This is *really* irritating.
So, is there a way to limit icon preview's behaviour to small (ie normal) files, or do I just have to turn it off completely?

Aug 22, 2014I have used the standard "Reduce File Size" Quartz filter but find the resulting files way too grainy. I want to have a filter that is a stand between but cannot seem to make a filter using the ColorSync utility that applies to PDFs. I want a free method to do this of course and am pretty confused as to why Apple hasn't given the user the option to control the output of the PDF in Preview. That is basic PDF viewer material.

Jun 12, 2012When I open preview the window never appears. The Preview menu is present. The four-finger swipe down will show me all the files I have opened previously. But when I select one, nothing happens. Every now and again, I can get a document to open but generally I give up. This has been going on for a while. I've tried menu file>open , option-click - file open with in finder, I've tried pdf documents etc. The other thing that has been bugging me is the inability to close files. When I do actually get a preview window to display, the side bar includes a variety of files I have opened previously. Actually, I think it has kept every last file I have ever opened in preview....disconcerting actually.

May 14, 2010Right now my MBP is setting idle (except for this process of course) and the fans are screaming at 5607RPM. I'm having this happen more and more lately. Anyone have an idea of what is causing it?
Attached is a screen shot that shows what is running. NETserver is using almost 70%. Why? It usually takes a reboot to get the fans back to normal.

If the original restore discs are lost, what methods are there to restore a Mac back to it's original state (with HDD's wiped). Is it possible to get a set of restore discs from somewhere? Do restore discs from other Macs of the same model work fine? Or will SL need to be bought, upgraded and then wiped after that (I'm hearing SL is actually a full version, so by upgrading and then booting into it again, you can do an erase and install)

Jan 1, 2009I have a little problem with ichat which i suspect is something relatively simple however i still can't get it sorted out. A friend of mine just purchased a macbook (with OS X 10.5 and I have 10.4.11) and we have been video ichatting without any problems. I picked up a macbook (10.5) for my gf and got ichat set up and running with out any problems, tested the video chat and all was good. Now all of a sudden when i try to video chat with either of them i can only see my preview window and can't see them. They however don't have any problems and can see me and their preview window. They have video chatted with each other with no problems so it only seems to be me. Is there any weird compatibility issues with ichat 3.1.9 and ichat 4? Like I said, initially there was no problems with my friend and I but now that I picked up the macbook for the gf things are all out of sorts.

Feb 21, 2012I got a PowerMac 2.66 GHz Quad Core Intel Xenon with a 640GB HD. The system is 10.6.8. For some reason the Time Machine back up takes ages since a few weeks. I deleteted allready a few older ones and the free space on the back up disk is about 122GB. Today it copied about 700MB and it took over 30 minutes. I'm preatty sure this was a lot faster before. get it quicker again or what can be a reason that it is so slow.
