switched to 10.7 recently. seem to be having a problem with preview.app.i have various setting saved as follows:
system pref -> general:
restore windows... = unselected
highlight color = Gold
show scroll bars = always
[code].....
I am running a macbook only a couple of months old so i go the cheap as chips dvd for SL Installed it and things seem fine except the fun that office 2008 wont load at all (gotta love MS) Now though i can not authenticate myself to change accounts in preferences even though i am the only user and i am the admin user. i click on the lock and it simply saying "authenticating" then goes back to "click lock to change settings" this is annoying as i cant do much in terms of users etc and i think this is lnked to the fact that i can't install not programs. In fact i couldn't even install the additional programs from the install DVD!!! i got to the final button to actually instal after selecting the location etc and it does nothing after clicking install. No password prompt or nothing.

He keeps having wireless problems because he likes to play with it and whenever one of his dam sites wont load he thinks its the computers fault and messes it up. Is there anyway to remove the wifi icon from the menu bar and lock access to system prefs and anything else that he casn use to destroy the computer? I looked at parental controls and they dident do what i wanted.

I've looked through System Prefs and can't seem to find that option.

Ever since updating to OS X 10.7.3 I can't get my Internet Sharing to function for wifi. I enable this to use my iPod at home. The computer 'says' Internet Sharing is on but my iPod searches and doesn't find a signal. Plus, the four bars at the top right of the screan do not change to a solid color with the arrow pointing up like it used to when enabled and working.

I recently changed my Apple ID. When I try to make changes to my iCloud account on my Mac., I cannot access the account via System Preferences. I've changed the password once already. My iPhone's iCloud account is fine. At this point my iCloud account no longer is working with my Mac.

iPhoto has duplicated all my photo folders, so that searching for "holiday 2009" comes out with two difference results. One in the original location I put the folder, and another inside the iPhoto package.
Is there any way of hiding a particular folder or telling it to ignore anything inside iPhoto's package? So that I only end up with one result.
However, there is one site that i visit almost daily [URL] and yet safari never includes it in the Top Sites. Its never once been in there since I've had it...
But before anyone suggests so, have already reset the Top Sites by deleting the various plists from the safari folder in my library - didn't work, obviously.
I?ve got a problem with my time machine. I recently upgraded to snow leopard and suddenly my mac pro has stopped backing up my aperture library through time machine. Do anyone know if their's a way to force time machine to backup a specific folder (in this case a library)? This is quit annoying problem in the meantime I've solved the problem through backing up my aperture library through vaults, but since this procedure is done manually and is painfully slow i really hope to get my time machine running as before...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 10mth old MBP. I've been using time machine for just as long. However, I recently changed the external HD that I am using for my time machine backups. My MBP uses about 130GB of space. The folders that I am excluding take up about 50GB. This means I should only be backing up 80GB of info onto my external HD using Time Machine. Even under the Time Machine Preferences, the estimated space says ~80GB.
However, when I start the backup, initially it say 0MB of 69GB. And then when it reaches 69GB, the amount just increases. e.g. 72.3GB of 72.3GB. 79.25GB of 79.25GB. And it just keeps going till 80+ 90GB. For some reason, it is ignoring the excluded command. I've tried reformatting my external HD as well as disabling time machine and doing everything from scratch. But it still ignores my Excluded items.
I've installed snow leopard on my mbp, I've had SEVERAL issues, one being that I can't preview images anymore when I'm uploading them in facebook or blogger, what have you. When you hit the browse button on a website to find the photo, you get the typical file browser, but instead of thumbnails, I get the mac .jpg icon with the .jpg names, no preview.

Running 10.10 and I'm getting all blank pages when I print through the system or say Preview. Brother MFC-4710, upgraded firmware and downloaded new drivers. What is weird though is if I open a PDF from Chrome and printer directly from Chrome, it prints fine.Â
I've tried it on two laptops and both have the problem.
I was doing several things at once on my iMac (ripping a DVD, on iChat video, etc) and my mac crashed. Now it won't open iTunes. I have a 500 gig music library and hundreds of playlists etc, so I'd hate to have to reinstall iTunes and lose all that. Is that what would happen if I reinstalled iTunes? I have Time Machine hooked up. Could I go into that and grab an iTunes prefs file from before the crash, and put that in the current system folder? Would that be something to try?

I am having an issue with the icons disappearing, the file is still there and you can click on it if you click on the words, but the icon is not there just the icon is gone. The icon that is not showing up is the folder icon primarily. I have searched several different sites and can not find an answer to my problem. I have tried to do the equivalent of a (rebuild desktop) desktop reset which was a program I downloaded from apple: URL
It did not help either and after installing that and doing the reset. Now when I go to open a picture, it opens in color sync instead of preview. The only way I can open a picture in preview is to open preview and then open a picture through it. It is like color sync is the default for some reason. Does someone know how to fix this? But my main concern is tis icon issue I am having. I don't know what to do as it is making it very hard to work. This even carries over to my external drives when hooked up. I need help as I do not know why it is doing this. : (
As far as other information, I just installed Tiger a few months ago if that helps any and this is on a mac mini. Other than that everything has been the same. I have relaunched the finder through opt+cmd+esc but it is not available to relaunch through right clicking the icon on the dock. Also it no longer allows me to drag a picture file over a program like Photoshop in the dock to open it in Photoshop. What is going on here? This getting crazy!!
If I were to run the disk utility that asks for the CDs that come with the MBP, what will that do? It is a software utility of sorts. Can I just re-install the basic system files for the OS, or perhaps even just download or copy over from another computer the "Preferences" file? This seems too simplistic, but I am an ex-Windows user. Don't want to format and re-install or anything of that nature if possible.

In Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?

There are several discussions about how to stop Preview crashing in Lion but none work for me. However, if I create a new user, Preview is back to normal. There is also information from Apple on creating a root user, which some people have suggested as a solution but the steps shown for Lion are not replicated on my computer.Â
So- has anyone an idea why Preview works with one user and not another? how to create a root user? Â

I want to compress a PDF I have created. I've been told that in Preview, in the Print dialog box, in the PDF menu there is an option "Compress PDF." That option doesn't appear in my dropdown menu. It doesn't appear in that menu regardless of what program I'm selecting Print from. I have a new MacBook Pro I bought last August with the latest version of Lion. How do I get that compression feature to work on my system?
