I am trying to install OS X on my Mac but it will not allow me to select a destination.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to install the Mac OS X who came with the ibook the problem appear, it's always stopping at: "Select a destination volume", and below there is nothing to select from, it's like the OS X CD doesn't see the new HD?
I have to share my project in HDCAM HD and I don't find this codec in the Master file destination. In the supported formats there is XDCAM HD.

I have a fresh install of 10.5.8 client on a PPC-based G5 tower. Having an odd issue where, if I open a new Finder window and do a find (command-f), the window gets "stuck" (doesn't change to the "find"-based window, gets stuck at whatever it was when I hit command-f). The rest of the desktop and computer responds as normal, it's just that single window that gets stuck — it's almost like it the desktop/GUI won't update the drawing of just that window. I can open new Finder windows and do everything else — but the only way to get rid of the stuck window is to kill Finder and let is restart. I've tried re-applying te 10.5.8 combo updater, created a new admin user, etc. — all the standard troubleshooting stuff.

So I tried upgrading my hard drive to a new Hitachi HD and when I tried using the mac OS X DVD it doesn't find the hard drive in the destination page. I formatted it to mac os extended journaled with 1 partition and nothing I'm stuck. Here is a picture of the disk utility page I took a screenshot of.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my Macbook Pro to Snow leopard. About 4 days later, my Mac crashed. When I tried to restart, it came up with the grey screen with apple logo and spinning disc. I have tried all of the resets. I then decided to try and re-boot from the SL install disk. When it asked me to choose a destination volume, however, there was none available. I tried disk utility, but there was no disk available there either. I then went back and tried to use the original install disc that came with the Mac...same results. It appears that my internal hard disk has disappeared. I wonder if i am going to have to replace the hard drive?

I have a 17" MBP. (2009) How do I set the default size of all the windows? Every time I open a program a rather small window with minuscule fonts opens, so I would like to set some kind default to make it easier on my old eyes.

Since I have been using Safari, it's windows open to the maximum size of the screen. Recently it has begun to open in at a small size. Is there anyway to save how large the window is when the program is launched, or a new window is opened?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI inherited a LaserWriter Select and have tried in vain to set it up (I also inherited the Asant talk used to connect it to my wireless router). It worked fine with the Leopard set-up of the previous owner, but it won't do thing for me under Snow Leopard. Is there an incompatibility here, or does the printer just not like me?

I've tried searching to no avail. When I use Finder, it's in List View.
I vastly preferred the Leopard version of selection in that only the filename was used to select a row.
If you clicked anywhere else it would not select the row and you could easily right-click to add new folders etc.
Snow Leopard did away with this functionality and changed it to a full row select.
Is there any way to go back to the Leopard way of doing things?
I have a few files, folders, and the Macintosh HD icons on my desktop. I want is to display the info for Macintosh HD only. Can this be done or is it all or nothing? I am using Snow Leopard currently.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering what app/plugin/prefpane there is to have the desktop show a different folder. (Leopard Intel)
For example, instead of seeing "users/User_Name_Here/desktop" I could set the desktop to instead display "Users/User_Name_Here/Documents/Example_Folder"
In Mavericks 10.9.4, how do I use the system Maps application to set up more than one destination? I saw no way to add a 2nd destination to my route. I know I could set up several one-destination trips but that seems silly.

I am transferring photos from a phone (LG) via Bluetooth. The pairing worked and now the photos are transferring to the Documents folder, which is fine, but I'd love to change the destination folder.
It seems like there should be an easy way to do this, but I can't find it. This is on a MacBook Pro running Tiger (10.4.11) (Yes I know I should upgrade).
Is there a 3rd party app that would allow me to set up a destination folder that files from this device would always go to?
You know how in the Finder sidebar (the leftmost column in column view) you have all those objects that are displayed by the Finder? You've got your Devices group and then your Shared group and your Places group? And under your Places header you have your Desktop folder and your username folder and your Music folder and your Movies folder and your Applications folder? And when you click on any one of these folders in the sidebar, the Finder displays contents of its corresponding real folder in the rest of the window?
Well, my Mac Mini won't display the "Movies" folder. All the other folders seem to work as I described, but, if I click on the "Movies" folder, it does not get selected. Whatever was previously selected stays selected. It's not dimmed, but it behaves as if it were. Is that weird or what?
It gets worse. You know how you can add additional folders to the sidebar? Well, I thought I'd put a fresh "Movies" folder into the sidebar to see what happened. So I located the real ~/Movies folder and dragged it to the sidebar. Now I have two "Movies" folders in the sidebar. They look different -- different icons. One works fine and the other refuses to be selected. And -- get this! -- I cannot delete either one!
We had an external disk crash the other day that had all our movies on it, so that's probably when this behavior started.
No function is impaired: one of the two "Movies" folders works fine. It's just weird to have two of them, and one of them not allow itself to be selected.

I wish to install again my Epson driver.
I went to the Printer control panel as shown in the attached picture.
I can't figure out what is my IP for the printer, and how to convince my system to show the printer list to enable me to choose it?

I'm trying to install iTunes 9.2.1 but I keep getting a pop-up saying: the destination folder iTunes 9.2.1 is on a locked volume. Please select another destination. I tried getting some help from Apple but couldn't afford their tech support, the only thing they could tell me is I need to look into system security and something about unlocking the computer?

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently I bought a WD UBB HD to store my music on. I've moved everything over and works great. However, I noticed one night after ripping some of my CDs that they were going back to the default iTunes folder. I'm suspecting that this may be happening if I open iTunes before the HD mounts. Is this true? Is there a way to prevent iTunes from doing this? Or a prompt alerting me that it can't find the USB device and if it should revert to the default. Also, how can I easily move the music over to my USB HD. Can I just do Consolidate Library and not worry about losing anything?
View 3 Replies View RelatedInstalled a new harddrive into my 2005 mac mini to replace 40 gb harddrive with hitachi 80 gb harddrive. When installing operating system from original osx two-disc set, the box which asks to choose which destination to install to is blank, and does not show any icon onto which to choose. Is this is defect in the disc? The computer recognizes that there is a new harddrive, so I know I installed it properly.

When at home, I have Time Machine backup to a Time Capsule (and a couple of external drives that I rotate off-site).
I'd like to guard against losing any files changed while I'm away from home for some days should I lose my hard disk. One possibility is having an external HD with a full TM backup on it but this isn't appealing to me because the HD would end up being stored close to my Macbook and it's possible they could disappear togather. The volume of modified data to backup would easily fit on a USB stick or SD card that I could keep in my pocket.
Is there a way to backup only those files modified since my last backup to Time Capsule (to my SD card)? Some reading about rsync, mtmd and mtmfs didn't yield anything useful.
My current workaround is to create a smart folder in Finder of files modified after a specified date and copy these to the SD card. This doesn't preserve the directory structure.
