I was wondering what app/plugin/prefpane there is to have the desktop show a different folder. (Leopard Intel)
For example, instead of seeing "users/User_Name_Here/desktop" I could set the desktop to instead display "Users/User_Name_Here/Documents/Example_Folder"
I download something form the internet, it is automatically saved onto my desktop. I would like to set a folder and direct the downloads there to keep my desptop neat. But I could not fine the way how to set it.

I am transferring photos from a phone (LG) via Bluetooth. The pairing worked and now the photos are transferring to the Documents folder, which is fine, but I'd love to change the destination folder.
It seems like there should be an easy way to do this, but I can't find it. This is on a MacBook Pro running Tiger (10.4.11) (Yes I know I should upgrade).
Is there a 3rd party app that would allow me to set up a destination folder that files from this device would always go to?
My problem its pretty simple. When I choose "Desktop folder" as destination to import/export in my applications, the entire app freezes.
For example: If i want to open a photo which are in "desktop" with photoshop with the "Open..." option, the "choose destination" pop-up window that appear freezes and I have to Force Quit. If i choose another folder, nothing happens.

Everytime I try to change it and click on the folders to pick an album to find a photo, it suddenly turns off and goes to that pop up message showed above.

One display is connected directly to the mac mini (main screen) and one display is connected through a DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort Converter from Athlona (secondary screen). Yesterday I rebooted the machine and since the reboot I cannot change my main screens desktop background. I tried every solution from several fora on the net, but did not succeed to change it. I only have a solid gray colored background. Normally, when you select a wallpaper, it instantly changes the background. Now it doesn't. You can see it change in the "Desktop & Screensaver" menu, but nothing happens in real. Changing the background of the secondary screen is no problem. When I restart the machine, you can see that the solid gray colored background goes away and the original chosen wallpaper appears, but then closes because I restarted the system. On start-up of the system, you can see the original chosen wallpaper again for a few seconds, while the machine starts applications to open at login, and then suddenly changes again into the solid gray colored background.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just did the newest security Apple OS X update and after rebooting the default Apple wallpaper was back on the desktop. I tried to change it but nothing will override the Apple wallpaper.
If I go to the Desktop settings, it shows the image of the wallpaper I have selected but its not shown on the desktop. How can I correct this?
Whenever I try to right click on the desktop and click "change desktop background" it just plays the error sound. And theres no longer an option for it in system preferences. The only way I can change it is if I select an image from the internet, and right click on it, and select "set as.."

I've enjoyed the gestures on the MacBook Pro with Lion OSX very cool. I've started to swipe left and right with three fingers to switch between desktops, very nice and quick. However, if I forget and "click" to one of the applications that has it's own desktop it changes my desktop order. Can I "fix" or "set" the desktop order? Example: Mail desktop 1, Safari desktop 2, Word Processor desktop 3, Calendar desktop 4, Contacts desktop 5?If I forget to swipe between desktops but instead click in the menu bar the order of the desktops changes. Can I "set" the desktop order so that it does not change?

If I change the desktop background in the interval of every one minute, will it have a impact on battery life? I notice there's even an option for every 5 seconds. Surely, Apple must feel confident in the battery life of the MBP if there is such an option. I like seeing a new image every so often, but don't want to sacrifice too much battery. What do you feel is the best setting? Every 5 minutes? 15 min? 30 min? 1 hour?

It changes when I connect external monitors, and it changes when I bring it home from work and boot up.
I just can't wrap my head around it. I have to change it every time I boot up, actually.

Using a new macbook pro and can't find a way to change the font style for folders displayed on the desktop. Running Lion. The font for folders on the desktop currently uses a shadow effect and it's hard to read.
