I'm having a slight problem with Finder, and it's quite annoying. When I right-click and select new folder, it doesn't let me rename it immediately. I have to press enter first.
The strange thing is, it only does this in List view.
All of the other views let me rename the folder immediately after I select 'new folder' on the context menu.
Is there a way to fix this?
Macbook doesn't start immediately, only after a few attempts... Like the board doesn't get power immediately....
What I've done:
1. Replaced SSD
2. Replaced battery
3. Upgraded from Mountain Lion to Yosomite
4. Reset PRAM & SMC

After my macbook hard drive kindly failed on me, I ordered a new Seagate Momentus 5400.5, 320gb hard drive. I popped that sucker in this afternoon and began to start up my macbook with the OS X disc 1. Everything was going smoothly, except that it can't find the hard drive. It is recognized under my disk utility, but when I click to partition it, select options, select GUID, click 'OK', I can neither Name it 'Macintosh HD' or do anything else.
I can't proceed with anything because when it asks me to select a HD, the HD does not show up. Again, everything works except that the hard drive is not found. I pulled the hard drive out. Made sure the screws were alright. Made sure everything was all snuggly, and yet it still won't work.
If I look at any file with QuickLook, and then immediately try to select any file after closing the QuickLook preview window, there's a 2 second lag between click and actual file selection (with an outline around the icon or list name).

The Rename feature on the Finder Context menu has been very useful to me.Got an error message while trying to rename several folders.Now the Rename feature is missing from the Finder context menu.
OS 10.10 Yosemite, 27" iMac
Just recently purchased at Thunderbolt hard drive enclosure (Akitio Thunder2 Quad enclosure) and the error happened while renaming files on the Thunderbolt drive. Now the rename feature is missing from all drives.
I've tried:
-rebooting
-ejecting the Thunder2 quad and rebooting
-power down the Thunder2 and rebooting

I installed gmail on my verizon blackberry curve. I have gmail set to automatically receive my school email, (penn state university). The problem is, it take a long time to receive on my phone, it does not push it immediately. Additionally, gmail doesn't check it very often, I usually need to go into the settings and hit the "check mail now" button. Is this normal? I thought I would be able to get my emails immediately.

When I left click on a Bookmarked Website in Safari it does not open the website it gives me the option to rename the website. Very frustrating. I have to either click on the screen shot above the bookmarks or I have to right click and choose open.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOkay...so I'm literally going crazy. My father ripped a bunch of dvds of mine using his pc (I haven't converted him...yet!) with DVDfab Platinum. I'm working on backing up my movies on hard drive and I have tried to rip them to my Macbook with MTR as well as burning them with Popcorn.
I have never had any difficulty with either program except when it comes to trying to re-rip these dvds copied on pc first.It doesn't seem logical that this can be a pc to mac problem...but who knows? MTR shuts down immediately when trying to rip the movie. Popcorn won't burn the TS file from the DVD or an image file of the DVD. I'm lost. Does anyone have any suggestions...?
Just wondering if anyone has ever encountered this or if any experts out there know of the issue.
I have a spare White Macbook (late 2008: Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz, 1GB, 120GB) that I'd like to set up for my brother to use to introduce him to the wonderful world of Macs. The problem it is having is that when I have a battery connected to it (I tried 2 different ones included a known-good one that is brand-new just purchased from Apple) it powers on and gives me the chime, but then immediately shuts off unexpectedly giving that little "whine" sound like if it just lost power all of a sudden. However, when i take out the battery, and just plug it into the Magsafe AC charger it works fine. Also when just trying to run on battery it does not turn on at all. Here's some cliffs:
1) Macbook with just battery does not turn on
2) Macbook with battery + Magsafe AC charger connects powers on, gives the chime, but then immediately shuts off making the "whine" sound as if the power was suddenly cut off
3) Macbook with no battery connected and just the Magsafe AC charger connected works fine.
Do you guys think this is either:
A) battery connector issue (the little piece with the metal wires that the battery connects to. ~$50 part)
B) Logic Board issue
I already tried resetting the PRAM and SMU to no avail.
I have a couple of mp3's that have the wrong name (same they are one song, but really another).
I have easily changed the name of the files, but notice when I click and select more info they still have the old, incorrect names (which will show up in the scrolling data on my stereo).
I can't for the life of me figure out how to change the "title" information so that it mirrors the name of the mp3.
Mac version 5.4 with iPhone app. Up to now the desktop version has worked flawlessly but now it will not launch - the password window flashes, then quits immediately. Downloaded the latest DMG and reinstalled, but the problem remains.
I have vista running on a Partition on my Hard Drive. I'm sick of looking at the "UNTITLED" Disk drive on my desktop. Is there a way to hide it? (I can't even rename it)

When placing my Macbook Pro in sleep mode by closing the lid, it goes into sleep mode, but immediately turns back on (with the lid closed), then after a short time goes back into sleep mode and then immediately turns back on. It keeps cycling like this. Any clues to why it will not stay in the sleep mode?

I can highlight the name and type a new one, or I can go to the Mailbox menu and select Rename Mailbox, then type the new name. I move a file to Trash or use the delete command a pop message comes up "This item will be deleted immediately. You can?t undo this action" - 'Show warning' is not selected in finder preferences. I have a nine day old 27" gi7 imac where I copied all the settings from my macbook pro via time machine. Both machines were on 10.6.2 and I am the only user - this problem only surfaced today. I ran Repair Disk Permissions with no luck and called Apple?.. they said that the only way to get rid of this was to perform a clean install making sure to back-up everything. I said that that was crazy and would involve me in having to invest in a new HD as I've already filled the imac with 500gb of stuff that has now been wiped over and I don't have a spare 500 gigs kicking around.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMany extensions on extensions.apple.com cannot be installed.However, extensions that I installed before, no problem, such as AdBlock, Bing, Echofon. Others, will not install, it will be stuck at installing. And Safari may lose response after a while. I initially noticed that if I try to install YouTube5 which I downloaded myself, Safari will immediately lose response.
Tried solutions:
- Reset Safari
- Run OnyX
- Repair disk permissions
- Deleting all the extensions; extensions I installed before will install, others won't
- Deleting Clicktoflash and Glims
When booting, after Login, finder is continously starting and quitting, never showing any desktop icons or sth. like that.
Issue appeared after installing new Safari Update. -> deleted hdd, overwritten with nulls -> recovered with time machine backup (i had serveral some small other issues, and thought it would be a good idea) (Tried two different backups, one even 2 months old, when this issue surely doesn't came up, but had the same problem) repaired permissions, repaired hdd without problems from leo dvd.
After connecting my external HD for Time Machine, it does not appear in the Finder-how can IU get it to appear?

View 12 Replies View Relatedone day i open my mac, the right side of the screen where i use to have some folders the i create is gone and the applications or the finder is not open. the top of the screen have the apple sign, Finder, file, edit and view all of the thing on the top of the desktop, it appear something and disappear and like appear and disappear every ten sec. but all other stuff work from the dock, and i can see all the file or the folders the disappear on the parallels desktop, just not on the mac.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWell ok, lets not get off-topic, I was replacing some files on my mac, when the program which replaces or copies or what ever stopped responding when i was replacing some files. I tried to close it but it wouldn't close. I went to the force quit menu and saw there was no copier or anything just Finder. The finder was selected and im used to click cancel and i force quitted finder accedently. Everything went wrong and i can't see my desktop, the finder doesn't work and my mouse lags... I can't relaunch finder i have tried really much.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've used Seagate FreeAgent Pro 500 Gb. It has been divided into 2 partitions. one is used for time machine, another is used for keeping my important data. I think that the Finder should show both partitions on the left, but it shows only Time machine .
I regularly run software update. As I can remember, it has ever shown two partitions. I don't know whether this is related to software updating or not. If it is 'yes', how can I solve it?

I was messing around with the ownership & permissions on my external HD and I think I may have switched it to no read & write.
Now when I plug the HD in, it shows up in Disk Utility and System Profiler but not in Finder. I've verified and repaired and neither of those things seem to help.
I'm not sure if what I did screwed it up or not.
I have some pretty important stuff on the HD. Do I have to reformat? Is there any terminal command or somthing that I can do to get into the HD?
