I am new to this forum, but hoping I can get an answer here. When placing my Macbook Pro in sleep mode by closing the lid, it goes into sleep mode, but immediately turns back on (with the lid closed), then after a short time goes back into sleep mode and then immediately turns back on. It keeps cycling like this. Any clues to why it will not stay in the sleep mode?
View 7 RepliesSo I tried closing all my apps and everything, and even set the Energy Saver preferences down to go into sleep mode after 1 minute of inactivity. But it still won't go to sleep! The screen will, but that's all. It's a mid-2007 MacBook running 10.5.8, for the record.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook does not sleep immediately, I have already tried removing safe sleep and it gives me no effect. It is not a hardware problem as my Windows Vista on the Machine sleeps just how I would like it. For info, the Hard Drive that is in it (320GB WD Scorpio Black) was used in an EFI Hackintosh install for my MSI Wind (but EFI installs do not modify the main operating system so I do not know what the heck is causing this)? By the way, the MacBook is custom, made by me. I built it out of three dead MacBooks.

Sleep Light, the one that was there originally was borked and did not light, and IR did not work. Now it does

I am yet to finish it. I am still prototyping the new top screen assembly using the Black lid, a red apple, and the screen with a scratch on it, and the bezel from the 2.2GHZ which is really beat up. The current top assembly is straight from the 2.0GHZ White. Here's a pic of it in it's current state.
I would like to my macbook pro to be turned off at 5% Battery power, as it doesn't turn of correctly at 0%. I'm having this issue for some years now, and want to get rid of it. Which plist needs to be changed for this? Or is there a Terminal-Command that's providing this? I don't want to buy a new battery yet, cause the one I have is quite fine still. I already reset the SMC and the Parameters. Is the battery status relevant, when resetting the SMC? Here's what has been going on so far: [URL]

I'm having a problem with my PowerBook G4 where is goes into sleep mode at random times. Mostly when I am streaming video..or at times the fan comes on, it sounds super high then boom. sleep mode again. After hitting the space bar, it comes back on, but it'll happen again shortly after. View 5 Replies View RelatedAs of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.
I recently had my screen replaced because of a crack. Now I find when I open the laptop to use, after being on sleep mode. It momentarily turns blue, sort of flashes/glitches then works normally. Should I be concerned?

I tried reseting the pram with no success. I deleted the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file. but it still doesn't turn off, only the monitor. I've set it to 1 minute but only the monitor will turn off. Manually putting the computer to sleep work's fine.

Sometimes when I open the MBP after it's been in sleep mode, the screen won't turn back on. I hear the disc drive power up, but nothing on the monitor. I have to turn the computer off and restart it.

My problem is that when I want a program (or more specifically in this case a game) to go into fullscreen mode it automatically goes to my primary monitor and turns the other screen black. I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I've got a powerbook G4, thats 8 days past its warranty. Conveniently, it now won't turn on. It won't wont boot from CD. If I turn it on, I get a gray screen that usually just turns my computer back off, if thats not the case I get a screen that shows the finder icon and a question mark and then turns off.
All it will do is boot into open firmware mode. Currently the install disc is inside of it and I've tried booting the cd using "cd:, bxi" and "dir hd", and it can't open both. Does anyone know how to wipe the HD, and start the installer using firmware? Otherwise, I think I'll have to take out the harddrive and plug it into an external case and then wipe it.
I've a problem with my PowerBook G4 (12-inch DVI and Mac OS X 10.4.11). When I close the lid or when I manually try to make it sleep from the apple menu, it goes into sleep mode put only for 1 second and then shuts off (crashes). So instead of being able to wake up the computer, I have to boot it up from off.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me or if anyone is having the same problem as me... Since 16th Feb I have not been able to charge my ibook in sleep mode. Every time you put the ibook into sleep mode while the power cable is connected the ibook goes to sleep for a second or so and then wakes up again... If the screen is shut it just continuously keeps repeating the process...

I have a new MacBook, 2.4GHz, 2 GB DDR, that has replaced my iBook G3 after the HD went out. May it RIP. Sometimes when I close the lid at work and put it in the computerbag it will be quite warm when I get it out. Sometimes it won't come out of sleep and I have to do a hard boot. View 4 Replies View RelatedTonight I came into my office and my PowerBook was sleeping. I have an external display and I usually turn my display on and wiggle the mouse (after I turn that on) and nothing happened. I looked and my display was still in standby mode, my wacom and eye tv had the same behavior. The powerbook light stopped blinking (I heard the drive wake) and then nothing. Nothing happened still. I opened the lid, hit the power button and still nothing. Held it down, and nothing. I ended up having to take the battery out and then I started the machine. Since then I've rebooted twice just for fun and since then the below screenshot shows that the "Jessica's Computer" window keeps popping up.
Two questions:
#1 What could have happened or what does it mean when the powerbook is sleeping, then wakes but never really wakes and just shuts off?
#2 What is up with that window opening as though this is some sort of start up program you'd find in windows?

I've noticed that when my rMBP (late 2013, Mavericks) turns off the display automatically while on battery (as configured via Energy Saver) and I try to wake it immediately, I get a black screen with the cursor, rather than my password/unlock screen. It remains a black screen, with the cursor moveable, for 5-10 seconds or so, and then the password/unlock screen will appear as usual.Â
This does not happen if:I don't try to wake the display/computer immediately after automatic display sleep (e.g., I wait 5-10 seconds and it's fine)I turn off the display using a hot corner and immediately wake the displayI put the computer to sleep by closing the lid and immediately wake it by opening the lidI select Sleep from the System/Apple menu and immediately wake it by pressing a key or clicking on the trackpadÂ
Why automatic display sleep is causing this temporary black screen? I currently get around it by setting the time for automatic display sleep while on battery to 10 minutes instead of the default 3 minutes to minimize the chances of needing to immediately wake the screen. I'd like to keep it at 3 minutes if possible to maximize energy savings, but the temporary black screen is really annoying if I didn't really want display sleep and consequently have to wake immediately.
MBP/Lion - I'm using my MBP in dual monitor mode with an external monitor and power supply connected. If I close the lid and then disconnect the monitor, my MBP won't wake after opening the lid. I know that with Lion a change was made and the power stays on with an external monitor attached and the lid closed (with the adapter plugged in), but if you unplug the display, there doesn't seem a way out of this state. Even plugging the monitor back in, the display wont refresh In this state the power managment is confused. When closed, the power light is on, with the lid opened the power light goes off, the display remains blank and I can't wake the device. The only solution is to re-boot. as I just want to close the lid, unplug power and the monitor and leave work to go home. I end up running the battery down if I don't catch it before putting the MBP in my bag, and I always have to reboot.

Whenever I select Apple sleep it goes to sleep but immediately wakes up.
I have taken off all devices and it still happens - but really, it started this after working with the same devices for many months.
It is immediate after going to sleep, the next second it wakes back up.
I am on a 17" macbook pro using lion and my laptop wont go to sleep. I shut the lid and the screen turns off but I hear it still going and the light in the front doesn't begin to blink like it is suppose to. I have reset the pram and the smc and its still not working
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy macbook will not shut down. I have to 'force' a shut down. I don't like doing that. I heard forcing your laptop/computer is not good for it. I try clicking the 'apple' on the left hand side, I click shut down, and it just automatically turns right back on. I don't like forcing my poor laptop to shut down.

I've got a dual G5 running Panther and I put it to sleep when I go to work in the morning. Last night, I wanted to try out Tiger (yes, I know - I'm way behind the times) so I installed it on a FireWire drive and booted off it for a couple of hours to see how things worked. I then went back to my internal Panther drive, and everything is ok except for one thing: when I hit "sleep", it goes to sleep, the screens turn off, and then for some reason I immediately hear the internal drives spin back up and the thing turns on again! Why can't it stay asleep?

I was using my MacBook this evening and navigated to a webpage that wouldn't load (perhaps due to excessive load) when my screen turned off and refused to turn back on. The white "sleep" light remained constant. I shut the screen and the light started to blink after the optical drive made it's noise and then I opened the screen again. The display turned on for a few seconds turning back off and the light on the front reverted to it's constant state.
I repeated pressing keys, the mouse and closing and opening the screen a few times before holding the power button down and forcing it to shut down. It's working fine now. I am wondering what caused this sudden behaviour though and how to best stop it from happening again, if I was working on something that needed to be saved, I'd be buggered. Perhaps it's an issue Apple needs to service, but how do I reproduce the effect then?

I was thinking it could possibly be related to the Last.fm app, but why would it turn my screen off and then cause it to continue to not respond/turn off? Should I be looking in the Console for a log before shutting down tonight, would that reveal something?
