I accidentally removed my HD from under the Devices folder in Finder when I was trying to drag and drop songs into iTunes. I assume there must be an easy way to get it to show up there again, I just am not sure what that is. It got dragged into whatever folder I was in in Finder and just kinda poof it was gone...

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've used Seagate FreeAgent Pro 500 Gb. It has been divided into 2 partitions. one is used for time machine, another is used for keeping my important data. I think that the Finder should show both partitions on the left, but it shows only Time machine .
I regularly run software update. As I can remember, it has ever shown two partitions. I don't know whether this is related to software updating or not. If it is 'yes', how can I solve it?

My iMac and Powerbook show up in Finder under the 'Shared' tab but my airport-disk doesn't. Back to my Mac is giving a green light ... MobileMe registration in the Airport utility sticks and all settings seem to be OK. What's wrong?

So, basically, ever since Lion, my external harddrive has had trouble being found while using the USB slot in the Airport Extreme. Anyway, so the HDD can be seen in the Airport Utility under Disks but I actually cannot access it through Finder. I have ticked the boxes to show External Harddrives in Finder and all that, so I am pretty connfused. All I use it for is watching movies off and TV shwos so I can save space on my MacBook Pro. So yeah, no Time Machine stuff which I usally see about this topic Â

why does my digial camera not show up in Finder? (camera is Nikon D7000)Â
there are situtions when you don't want to download photos, sometimes I'm just doing tests, and want to see photos in the camera instead of downloading them first.. ( at any rate this should be my choice to make, not Apple's....;-)
and: I want to see the camera in the FINDER (not iPhoto or any other program where you have to "import" the photos.. I don't like those programs and never use them..)Â
it doesn't even show up in Adobe Bridge, for pete's sake.. this is ABSURD..
but on the pc you see it right away in Windows Explorer... no reason whatsoever why the mac shouldn't do this also...

I borrowed a friends and switched mine with hers. My acted the same way in her macbook. I switched the cords on the external drives, no change.

I transferred about 400 gigs of data from my MacBook Pro to my new iMac using Migration Assistant, but can't find any of my data on Finder. I'm thinking that the data got transferred but not cataloged. Finder shows about 400 gigs of my hard drive being used, but the files it shows don't come anywhere close to 400 gigs. How can I find out what is really on the hard drive and how can I access my MacBook files I transferred?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI use a Western Digital Passport as my external drive. When I link the USB I get no icon on my desktop and the device is not recognised unless I activate the WD Smartware to unlock it. That's not a lot of use when I want to download some files from a computer (like my wifes's) (also an iMac) which doesn't have the Smartware installed. why my desktop won't register the drive and why my wife's computer won't recognise the thing at all?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that my external drive used for Time Machine has disappeared from the Finder "Devices" section. Thankfully it continues to work fine and Time Machine can access it, but it makes me nervous!
Disk Utility sees the drive and partition just fine. I've run Disk Utility Repair disk both from the startup drive and the install DVD and there are no errors. Repair permissions is greyed out/disabled under both conditions. All the rest of my internal and external drives are visible in Devices.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOccurring starting about last month, this has gone from a seldom, to all the time situation. plugging in any USB memory device either directly to the computer, or with cables, will allow the files to be accessed/changed/deleted by programs, but the device with it's files will not show in finder. The device shows in System information. I have set Finder to show everything, but they no longer apear. Before failing entirely, I would sometimes have the device show for a short time, then get an "Improper removal" error, without touching the device, after a few moments. All these memory devices still function properly when used in external devices and when direcly accesed by software. Not being able to use finder to modify content is a significant problem.

I have a MacBook Air. I inserted memory stick , but it did not appear in the Finders list for Devices / Remote Discs. When I removed it, a box opened telling me I did so incorrectly. I know how to eject remote devices, but if it was not listed, I could not do it properly. Why did it not appear under Remote Discs?

We have a Family MobileMe Pack and have an iMac with Snow Leopard. When I chose to move 2 accounts that the iMac uses to iCloud, I selected the option to "keep using your email after MobileMe ends" so that these accounts will still work on Mail for the iMac. Â
When I check the accounts under the Master account, these 2 accounts show (Remove Account) instead of (Migrated to iCloud) as is the case for my kids' accounts. Â Now I'm confused as to whether these 2 accounts are really migrated or not. And I'm not sure I can move the Master account to iCloud before these 2 accounts have been migrated. I've read I cannot manage any of the family accounts anymore once the Master account moves to iCloud. But time is running out.Â

How would I go about backing-up the disk if the image doesn't appear under devices? I went to the "Restore" tab/button, but I can not choose the hard drive in the first field. I could have sworn my hard drive was formatted for Mac, but I may have formatted it back to FAT32. I know the disk still functions because when it is powered on, it cycles with/without being connected to my MacPro, but after that, it will only cycle if connected (confirming connection). It does run again when I connect the firewire cable. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have this weird and annoying problem with "show in finder".I used at one point that "defaults write -g NSFileViewer string different.plist.than.finder" to try to change the default finder, it didnt work, so I just "defaults delete -g NSFileViewer". So this is out of the way, I have no NSFileViewer in any file whatsoever.Now, for the weird stuff. If I use "show in finder" from the dock, nothing happens(neither cmd-click, of course). If I use it in safari's download list, it OPENS the file. If I use it in iTunes, on media or apps, it WORKS properly, it shows the item in the finder. If I use it in Xcode on a file in my project, it just switches to that file(so, basically, it just opens it just like Safari).
I tried deleting the dock and finder plist files in Preferences, didnt work. If I login with a different account it works properly. I really dont want to delete the whole preferences folder. I REALLY dont xD.I'm really stuck here, since all apps try and open the file(except Dock that does nothing) but iTunes works properly.if I use "Reveal in finder" in Spotify, it also opens the file(it starts to play in iTunes).if I use "Reveal in finder" in Forklift it just opens it as well.

I have been using WD 1TB external USB hard disk for 4 months with my Macbook with Tiger 10.4 on it. I have plugged in the disk after I purchased without any special formatting or anything, and it worked fine so far. It just took a while, about few minutes, for the Macbook to show it on the desktop every time I got it disconnected and connected again. However, this time, I can not see the disk on the desktop nor on the Finder no matter what. I have plugged it in and out several times, I have restarted the machine etc. Nothing works. The disk is quite empty and it works fine with the PC..no cable problem or and disk failure issue for sure. I can see the disk on the Disk Utility app, but I can neither verify nor mount it...

When I try putting it in my MacBook Pro that has 10.5 (this is from my university), it will not show up in the finder. Then, it will spit the disc back out. I tried it in a few other MBPs with 10.5, and the same thing happens.

In the past, clicking the magnifier then would open a Finder window and highlight the downloaded file.
