OS X :: Trying To Transfer Game Saves From Gamefaq?
Mar 1, 2009
i am trying to transfer game saves from gamefaq.com. i am new to this mac thing seeing as i just bought it 2 weeks ago. Im using a usb drive but can't get anything to work i tried all the sites that tell you how but it's for a pc not a mac can anyone help?
I just bought a Rev A 1.6 ghz MacBook Air as a secondary computer for school(I already have a iMac). I was wondering if it would be able to play Spore, and more importantly, if I could transfer the game saves over from my iMac to my MBA.`
Is it possible to transfer a Mac App Store game between computers while saving the game data?
I searched my Finder but the only think that shows is the app itself - but the file size is the same as when it was first downloaded so I was assuming the game data must be somewhere else.
i just bought the game Spore and i am having troubles with it. 1st after i download the cd an update pops up for the game back to back to back to etc. and its the same update. Then when i run the game everything works fine (the begining cut scenes) but when the game is about to start it cuts off and an error popup comes up.
I have all the boxes ticked in Autofill preferences, ran Keychain First Aid and searched the net for an answer but still my 20" iMac won't store the Yahoo username and password details. It will quite happily store others but not Yahoo. My 24" iMac does it, so does my MacBook Pro and iPhone!
I'm using Leopard. Is there a way to change screenshots so they don't save as png? Say maybe gif or jpeg? I googled, but all the ways I've found require extra software or terminal. Is there an easier way?
All data saved on my iMac is saved at 10:23. This means when I go to get info to check when something was saved it says 10:23. The same goes for any instant messages. All logs report a save time of 10:23 regardless of what time it was actually saved.
While downloading podcasts to my library, I am getting the message, "the iTunes Library file cannot be saves. An unknown error occured (-54)." Any idea of what is going on?
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), & Mac OS X (10.4.11)
I Use TextEdit all the time for all sorts of things. To do lists. Notes. Customer orders. When I don't have a scratch piece of paper near me, I jot things down all the time.
For certain things at work, I have even pre-saved certain order forms, etc for when I get phone orders, or I need to manually place an order at work and don't have the time to use our normal point of sale.
apple has decided to change the TextEdit app to auto save documents by default. This has to be one of the most annoying features I have encountered in such great OS updates. I do love Mavericks, but this drives me crazy.
example, I open a blank order form for a certain customer and start editing it, I enter info, and may even leave it in my screen fora while. Well, next thing I know, it is saved whether I wanted it saved or not. I feel like the programmers have put this feature in because they think we needs this? Most other apps don't do this, but TextEdit does.
Another her annoying example, if I open a previous file that already exists, one that I want to keep, but one that I want to use as an example or just modify for a new purpose. If I start editing it without going through a new file duplication process, or exporting it as a new file, all of my previous text is lost. The app just starts saving it automatically.
Save As is gone. Come on! Really!?!
and by the way, preview has many of these similar annoying features now too. Not as bad as TextEdit, but similar.
I just bought a Belkin N router (a F5D8236), and I've finally been able to get it to work, but every time I try and set a password on the router itself, it seems to save the wrong one! I've tried several times now (v-e-r-y carefully, checking the capslock key), and the same thing happens. Once I've entered the password and the router resets, I can't login again without reverting to factory settings.
Safari no longer exports and saves .pdf files. And Safari has slowed down significantly. I have reset and reinstalled it without being able to resolve these problems. Chrome works flawlessly and it is now my default browser.
Is there a safari extension that auto saves sessions? Automatically gives you all your past tabs back on your next launch. Such a simple thing, where is it?
I have a MacBook with a built in camera. PhotoBooth had been working fine for years until just the other day. There are about 385 pics saved in it. I'm not sure if that's the problem. Now it will take a pic and I can see it on the little "reel" type thing along the bottom, but if I go to upload the pic anywhere, such as to a site or an email, it shows up in the list of pics as an icon that looks like a blank sheet of paper and no photo is attached to it.
I have a Macbook Pro with Lion installed. I have a situation where ThunderBird automaticaly sends all attachments I open to the desktop. Unfortunately, this causes my desktop to get all cluttered up. Each time after opening 5-10 attachments, I have to go and delete all of them off the desktop to maintain order on my desktop.
I use mozilla firefox and when I click on a pdf or word file and click open instead of save file the iMac automatically saves to the desktop. How can I change this? When I click on open I don't want it to save the file.
I am having a very troubling issue on two different computers. Both run the latest Snow Leopard and Microsoft Word 2008. The problem is the following: Every single time I save a .doc file I end up with a corrupt doc: I can open it only with the computer that created it, and only with Word. No other software (even QL on the same computer) can open it. I have to re-open the doc with Word, SAVE AS, do a compatibility check, ignore all the issues or fix them, then save it with a different name. Then it works. The only difference between the two computers is that with Word 2008 at times I cannot even save it with the workaround I explained above: I have to save as DOCX with compatibility check in order for it to work. This is getting really annoying, as every time I have to send a .doc for work reasons (several times a day), I end up having to triple check it and save it.
Mail saves multiple draft copies of the same email. Every few seconds, a new draft is saved, displaying a few more words. How can I prevent this from happening?
Recently I read about a feature in versions of Office up until 2003/2004 called "Fast Saves." Apparently, Microsoft put the feature in Office to save documents faster by only adding the changes to the document, rather than overwriting the older text that was deleted. One thing that disturbs me about this feature is the fact that metadata revealing deleted text could easily be retrieved by someone who receives the document.
While I don't have MS Office, I have used it to write documents on a friend's Mac (he has since upgraded to Office 2008, which doesn't have FS, and doesn't know anything about the feature) when my computer did not work.
I have two questions regarding this:
1. Is Fast Saves enabled by default? If not, was it disabled by default since it shipped in '04, or did Microsoft disable it with a patch or Service Pack, like they did in disabling FS on Office 2003 last fall?
2. Is the following metadata an example of FS being on? In this document and several others, I noticed that portions of the actual text are repeated in sentence and word fragments, with some of their words and letters missing (and with random symbols inserted, in some cases). Now, while I thought this might be an example of deleted data, I noticed that same pattern with documents in which I just pasted text from a website without modifying any of it.
Could it be a secondary aspect of FS, though?

I've noticed that finder, automatically saves unnecessary spam images and mixes them in with my important images, is there someway of either adding a spam label, to them, so they end up in another folder, or completely stopping the saving process entirely?
I am no longer able to open Mail. I get the message: "Mail can't open because you don't have the necessary permissions to change the folder where it saves information" It then goes on to tell me where mail stores information and to go to that folder and use the Get Info window to change the privileges to Read and Write (which they already were). I authenticate, change them to Read and then back to Read and Write, click the lock and try again. Same result. I tried to take a screen shot of that window and got this message: "Your screen shot can't be saved. You don't have permission to save files in the location wherescreen shots are stored." Last night I tried to take a screen shot and got the same message. I repaired permissions in Disk Utility and there were thousands of permissions repaired.
so, i have gotten everything all set up and up and running but one thing that i have noticed is my network connection disconnecting itself. every time i have closed i the lid it has diconnected itself from the network. i realize that it goes to sleep when that happens and it shouldnt be really doing anything in sleep mode. but im kinda p-o'ed at how when i open it up i need to re enter the networs pass word. is there a way that i can make it so that it automatically connects to the network when its opened/turned on? i checked the box that "saves the password as a keychain" what ever that means too.
i dont really get why photo booth saves the flies like this now, Photo on 2009-09-04 at 14.11 when it used to be like Photo 18.jpg. how do i change back.
I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive
Okay, well I am about to buy a PC game which is very much like 'The Sims' but is actually Desperate Housewives - The Game. I have three macs, two of which are intel-based. If I wanted to play this game on my Macbook what would I need to do? Install anything? Has anyone done anything similar?
I've just downloaded a game that requires x11 (freeciv). since I am running 10.4.11, I also had to download and install x11. I managed that, but now I am confused as to how to get the game to run. can someone explain to me in straightforward terms how to open the game. I've tried just clicking on it, but it shuts down straight away.
I have a MBP with Snow Leopard and I cant figure out how to take screenshots in a game (Starcraft 2). I've tried both command+shift+3 and 4 but they don't seem to work, normally it saves a picture on my desktop but when I do this in a game nothing happens.
i have a new imac OSX 10.6 and wish to play Tomb Raider. when i put in the CD a box appears stating that the classic environment is no longer supported. Can anyone give ma a solution? I tries to go to sheepshaver but I don't understand the instructions, as I don't have a degree in computers.
