Applications :: Is There A Safari Extension That Auto Saves Sessions
Jul 10, 2010
Is there a safari extension that auto saves sessions? Automatically gives you all your past tabs back on your next launch. Such a simple thing, where is it?

I looked on the before and still ahven't found anything on it, so I guess I'll just ask.
I've been wanting to use Safari 5 as my familys default browser for sometime but the one thing that seems to bug my mother and others is how Safari handles autofill <--- don't know if that's right.
You see they like how in Chrome you just click on an empty text filed and anything that has been typed there before will just pop up on a drop down list under the text filed box it's self with they're options.
I just wanted to know if there might be an extention that gives Safari this feature?

I Use TextEdit all the time for all sorts of things. To do lists. Notes. Customer orders. When I don't have a scratch piece of paper near me, I jot things down all the time.
For certain things at work, I have even pre-saved certain order forms, etc for when I get phone orders, or I need to manually place an order at work and don't have the time to use our normal point of sale.
apple has decided to change the TextEdit app to auto save documents by default. This has to be one of the most annoying features I have encountered in such great OS updates. I do love Mavericks, but this drives me crazy.
example, I open a blank order form for a certain customer and start editing it, I enter info, and may even leave it in my screen fora while. Well, next thing I know, it is saved whether I wanted it saved or not. I feel like the programmers have put this feature in because they think we needs this? Most other apps don't do this, but TextEdit does.
Another her annoying example, if I open a previous file that already exists, one that I want to keep, but one that I want to use as an example or just modify for a new purpose. If I start editing it without going through a new file duplication process, or exporting it as a new file, all of my previous text is lost. The app just starts saving it automatically.
Save As is gone. Come on! Really!?!
and by the way, preview has many of these similar annoying features now too. Not as bad as TextEdit, but similar.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard yesterday. In Tiger, I was able to click a filename and it would highlight the entire filename + extension. In Snow Leopard, I do the same thing and it only highlights the filename.
Is it possible to highlight the filename AND extension in Snow Leopard?

Many of the extensions I've seen (Share to Facebook, Instasafari, etc.,) already have existing bookmarklets. What's the difference between a bookmarklet and an extension? It seems like the bookmarklet would be better resource-wise because it's only used when it's needed whereas an extension (I guess?) runs with the browser itself.

We've seen quite a few extensions since tuesday, but not ONE attempt at a keyword extension. Is it just not possible with the current API? If so, I would like to know so I can stop searching for one and try to get keywurl working instead.

Safari extension to enable full screen browsing? I tried to look for one, but couldn't find anything. This seems like it would be the perfect application of Safari extensions.

I have all the boxes ticked in Autofill preferences, ran Keychain First Aid and searched the net for an answer but still my 20" iMac won't store the Yahoo username and password details. It will quite happily store others but not Yahoo. My 24" iMac does it, so does my MacBook Pro and iPhone!

Safari no longer exports and saves .pdf files. And Safari has slowed down significantly. I have reset and reinstalled it without being able to resolve these problems. Chrome works flawlessly and it is now my default browser.

I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.
I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson.
I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.
The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.

Supposedly, the new 27" iMac supports 2 side-by-side safari windows perfectly. However, on mine, they overlap by about 3 inches and if I drag the 2nd window to the right, it does not entirely fit without adjusting the width of one or both windows.
Is there a way I can optimize Safari (or the iMac display settings) for the 27" iMac display so that by default each window takes up exactly 50% of the screen width and a new window will sit perfectly side by side?

Is there a way via an add-on or setting to have Safari perform a "Reset Safari" when you close Safari and/or have "Private Browsing" enabled when you a launch Safari? Similar to the functionality that FireFox has where you can clean up automatically after your session using "Clear Private Data." In FireFox there is a preference for it but I didn't see anything like that in Safari - leading me to believe there might be a hack or add-on that will do it.

After realizing how much faster Safari is than Firefox at just about everything, I've decided to make the switch. However, along with mouse gestures, the thing that is really holding me back is that there doesn't seem to be auto-scrolling. The little icon that pops up when you press the middle mouse button and scrolls the page automatically. Is there really no auto-scroll or am I missing something?

When I use Firefox, I automatically get a "do you want to save" message when I close down so when I restart FF, I'm back with my same tabs, etc. Never happens with Safari. I even input ID's at websites which aren't held the next time around. Can I get Safari to act like FF when it comes to saving tabs, site Id's, and such.

I just noticed that when I start to type a URL in the URL field in Safari 5, it behaves differently than before. For example, before, if I typed "app" in the URL field and hit enter, it would automatically fill in "[URL:..] and load the site. That's because Apple's site was the only site in my bookmark list that started with "app". Now when I type "app", it fills in [URL:..] instead, because that site's DESCRIPTIVE TEXT begins "Apple, Macintosh...". So now, it assumes the letters I type in the URL bar are to help me find a site based on the "descriptive" text, instead of the actual URL text. I really hate this new behavior. I looked for an option or preference to change, but found nothing. Any of you know how to revert this behavior, or if it is even possible to do so?

Is there a way to have a Safari webpage refresh automatically every minute to every couple minutes? I have a page that updates very frequently that I need info from. I am not really familiar with RSS but does it do something like that? I seriously doubt this site does not have a feed (if thats what it needs).

A co-worker (who isn't English speaking) would like to change Safari so that when he enters a site name into the address bar (for example "ford") that Safari doesn't automatically add ".com" to the address. Instead he wants the browser to use ".ch" (Switzerland) as the default autocomplete in the address line. Anyone know how we can change that (maybe in Terminal)..?

This has been bugging me for months, so I'm hoping someone out there can answer this query. Our county changed our house number several months ago. I use auto-fill on Web page forms very frequently. Of course, every time I auto-fill my address info, my original house number comes up, and I have to edit it to the new number. I've searched around, but I have not been able to locate where the data for filling in the forms are kept, or any procedure available for changing what data Safari uses to auto-fill. Does anyone know how to accomplish this feat?

I like the Top Sites feature. However, I don't like that Safari checks if the site has changed since my last visit. It destroys the feature of many forums to just show me the posts which were added since my last visit
