I got SL some months back and loaded on my MBP which already had OS X. The disk/box doesn't say anything about it being a full version or an upgrade.
If I formatted my HDD, could I just load SL as a full install?
When I get my Mac Mini next week-I intend to replace the HardDrive, do I have to back up what's on the HDD? Remember this Mac is Brand New-And comes with the Install Disc.
Or can I just open the box, install the new harddrive and load up the install disk?
I'm trying to re-install the OS on a MacBook Pro that i'm selling so as to erase all my data from it, however the Install Disc will not start up to run the Installer. I load it, press install, it says it has to Restart, i click ok and it then begins to restart but then just stops at a white screen. The disc drive goes quiet as well. I've tried just starting and holding C down as well. Same result.
Just wondering if anyone knows a way around this? Or is it probably a dodgy disc? It seems to be fine until it tries to start up from the disc.

I have tried twice to use this DVD to upgrade my MBP from Tiger to SL, but it keeps telling me that OS X can't be installed on this machine. Do I need to use an UPGRADE DVD to actually do the Upgrade?

View 1 Replies View Relatedwanting to erase and just restore my iMac back to the fatory settings and i've already tried to restart and load the OS X install dvd and hold down C when it starts up but the disk reads for about 15 seconds and then ejects and my regular screen appears. can access the disk utility application and it will only let me erase free space. Original OS X version 10.6.2 on dvd installer.

My web developer has given me a .sql file to load into MySQL. I have MySQL started with a folder selected and a password set from the Server Admin. However, that is all I know how to do. How do I get thie .sql loaded into the database or do I need to create a database. My website will not work without it.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Smart Notebook software yet problem continues. Tech department at my school district says Mavericks and Smart Notebook software should run fine together. Please take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.

Sometimes it loads after multiple restarts but somtimes it doesn't. I cannot browse through files anymore as nothing appears. Nothing also appears on terminal either. Here is a screenshot.

I was just wondering if a full system restore can be harmful or if it's good to do every once in a while to get that "fresh" computer feeling. I just re-installed OSX and everything feels like new but was just wondering if this is bad for the hard drive or something.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I have my brightness at a certain setting and then start playing a game, the brightness jumps to full. When I then press the button for less brightness, it jumps immediately to the setting it was originally.
This also happens whenever I do alt+tab to return to the desktop. So it appears it happens when I do something that requires to switch to full screen mode cause it also happens with other programs.
At normal use, surfing, office,... this problem does not occur. And also it doesn't happen under OS X
I have taken everything off my desk top and backed it up and it's still saying the same thing! I've also emptied the trash. I get it when I try to use Photoshop.

I have a mac book pro...one of the older models...around 5 or 6 years old..the silver one with the silver around the screen part. Running Mac OS X 10.6.8,
2.33 GHz, 2GB ram.
Lately my computer has been rediculously slow with everything, but aside from that my issue is with my start up disc. I would have over 1.5 GB of space left, open up a photoshop file...make some alterations and save...and all of a sudden I have NO SPACE left. These alterations created the photoshop file to be like 50mb more. Its a 200mb file. So how can I go from 1.5 gigs to saving a 200mb .psd file and all of a sudden 0 hd space?
Sometimes I couldnt even save the .psd because when I opened it all of a sudden I have half a gig now. And even if I had half a gig why wouldnt I be able to save? I go to save and sometimes it says "your start up disc us full" - Is this different than my harddrive?
Is photoshop using some sort of weird caching thing?

How come I can run 64-bit Windows 7 on my first gen Mac Pro, but I can't run Snow Leopard as completely 64-bit (with the 64-bit kernel). What am I missing here? Is it truly a hardware limitation or is it just a software block that Apple has put on these machines?
I always thought that you couldn't run Snow Leopard 64-bit Kernel because of the EFI32. After installing Windows 7 successfully, it makes me wonder if the inability of running full 64-bit Snow Leopard is just an artificial limitation.
What's the deal? I could be completely wrong about all of this. I'm still confused about the EFI32 thing. Can someone shed some light on this?
I just purchased a Mac Mini and am using a DVI to HDMI cable to connect it to my 42" Sony KDF-E42A10. I am unable to achieve full-screen resolution and downloaded SwitchResX to manually adjust the display. Does anyone know the timing parameters for the Sony or how to achieve full-screen resoltuion?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.
It says that "the installation failed. the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance".
I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:
1)normal install - fail
2)repair permission - fail
3)install in safe mode - fail
4) install using another admin acc - fail
5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail
6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai
7)updated my system and install - fail
8) reinstall the mac - fail
i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?

I've been trying to install and use BootCamp from Apple, so I can use Visual Basic for my classes. Obviously, I need Windows for this. Anyway, i downloaded BootCamp, installed it, and then Windows XP. After this I was told to insert my OSX disc to get the drivers. Well nothing happened at all. I suppose because this install of Leopard didn't include BC, it was a seperate download.I then read that BC Assistant should give me the option to burn a drivers disc. I looked at the provided screenshots, and right where the button should have been, there was nothing.

Is it possible to buy a new hard drive, put it in an external USB 2.0 enclosure, then install OS X on it using the discs that came with my destroyed MBP in a different Mac, then put the hard drive into the squished computer and have it use that hard drive as its startup disk? The motherboard on the squished computer is fine, I just can't install OS X on it because it has a broken superdrive.

If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? View 6 Replies View RelatedThe internal hard drive on my early 2009 iMac is being replaced but I have to reinstall Snow Leopard myself.I did search in MRoogle and at Apple and cannot seem to find instructions on how to perform a clean Snow Leopard install on an iMac internal HD.
Can I do this? And if so how? Or do you think I should try and install Leopard on the existing Hd in the iMac? I still have these discs but have to get the SL applications install disc out of my drive (it's stuck and the iMac won't boot past the blue screen).
I jsut did a fresh install. wanted to use my SL DVD but the MBP i5 refused to star with it so I used the original DVD (10.5) and upgraded with the SL DVD to 10.6. However after the initial SL Installation, it tried from the SL DVD and this failed. I did a manual restart, starting from the HD and everything ran fine. however today I note there is a locked file on the HD named Mac OS X Install Data. It contains 181 .pkg files.Now I suppose this should have been moved or deleted as part of the install process. Can I move them to a file where they belong?

I have a dual 2ghz G5 that i wanted to clean off and start fresh. I wiped the drive with disk utility and tried to install os from tiger install dvd. G5 keeps hanging at install and also at disk utility. I've swapped both the osX install dvd disk and the entire dvd drive, but still hangs at os load or utility.
