Software :: Ctrl + Function Keys Don't Work?
Jul 19, 2006I just got a macbook pro 15.4 with 10.6.4 or updated OS. The ctrl+F2 (move focus to top drop down menus such as file, edt, etc) doesn't work. History: Loaded everything, updated software and then noticed it didn't work. Called mac, went back and forth, in the end they said do a reinstall.

Jul 8, 2010Right now I'm running a MBP out to a larger cinema display and I purchased an HP wireless keyboard that I really like. I've been able to use System Preferences to swap the Option and Command keys, but I'm having trouble swapping the Ctrl and Fn keys. Do I need a 3rd party app for this?

Feb 13, 2009I just noticed... I can't seem to switch between spaces anymore by pressing control-1, control-2, control-3 and control-4.
Usually I had it setup that my email at work was open on 4, web up on 1, chat on 2, and 3 was my "hey, I wasn't fooling around" blank desktop. Has anyone else noticed it stopped working? (might have been when I upgraded from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6?)
I checked in the spaces config, I just saw the settings to use the arrow keys with the control, option, or apple keys.
OS X :: Finding Mac Shortcuts Keys?
Sep 13, 2009I am still a little new to OS X. I have had a couple older macs to get me transitioned over and now I am using one full time. But there are a few shortcuts that I love for windows and I would like to know if the equivalent is available on my mac.
1. When I highlight something on my vista machine in a browser and click search in Google it opens in a new tab. Is this possible on my mac. I have not tried Firefox on it and that is what I use in windows, but does it work there or is there a way to get it to open in a new tab in safari?
2. When I click a link on my windows machine in my e-mail it opens in a new tab and not another window. Can i make this happen on my mac in Safari?
3. Last one. On my windows machine I hit control enter after typing the address in the address bar and it throws in the www. and the .com/.net Is there a replacement shortcut in OS X?

Jul 14, 2010I own Warcraft 3 TFT and use a Macbook Pro 13.3" which does not have a numpad. A numpad is very useful for Warcraft 3 TFT and would like to somehow simulate one, since I don't have a full keyboard. I was wanting to know what my options are for doing that. I downloaded KeyRemap4Macbook, but I did not see an option to for what I want. I would like to be able to have 1-0 be recognized in warcraft as numkeys without it affecting outside of game. What I was hoping is if I could turn ~ key into like a Caps Lock. So like if I press Shift+~ it changes 1-0 keys at top to a numpad and if I press it again it changes them back to normal function. Or if I could just bypass all that and just have them recognized as numbers when I type in the game and numpad when I do not have chat dialog box open.

Jun 12, 2012I checked Universal Access and the Zoom and VoiceOver features have shortcuts written next to themin bold black writing where as the shortcut next to Inverted Colours is greyed out. I have been using it for a year now and this is the first time it has greyed out and not letting me change the colours using the shortcut.I can still change it using the radio buttons in Universal Access but shortcut was much easier. I am using Snow Leapord on a 15.4 inch early 2011 model of Macbook Pro. I dont know if this has any relevance but the last time it worked was just before I updated the Blackberry Desktop Manager.

Feb 12, 2008I have my daughter's accounts setup with parental controls (she's 9). I use the Parental Controls to limit the apps that she has access to so she does not get into trouble with applications that she should not be using.
I was working in my daughter's accounts the other day and I accessed the "System Preferences" application. Because this was one of the applications that I blocked, I was prompted (something to the effect of): This application is blocked by parental controls do you want to "Always Allow access", "Allow Access One Time", "Cancel"
I selected "Always allow" by accident. Now, when I go into parental controls, the "System Preferences" box is still unchecked, indicating that it should not be accessible by my daughter - but, when I go into my daughter's account, she has free/clear access to system preferences. I've tried checking and unchecking the Systems Preferences in parental controls, but it does not block access.

Dec 9, 2009Thinking that the contents of Finder's images folder were merely a history of images accessed, I placed the entire contents (2,020 images) of the folder into the waste bin. I realized my error upon opening my photos folder and seeing that no photos appeared.
Is there a way to reverse that transfer of images into the waste bin?
I couldn't highlight and move all the waste bin contents back into the images folder, so I tried moving just one image from the waste bin into the folder, but without success.
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Reverse DNS Hostname Keeps Changing
Jun 21, 2012I work in an IT environment where we are adding more and more Macs every day. I have been charged with researching joining Macs to the domain. Before, we've had them unbound but we've decided to change that.Our environment is nearly entirely Windows based on the server-side. On Windows 2008 R2 servers we run DHCP, DNS, and AD. The problem is that when I bind a computer to the the domain, the hostname changes in the terminal window to one owned by an IP address previously. I'm worried that this might interfere with applications / scripts that run in the terminal.
I read that there is a hostname config file in OSX that can be configured to override this. I'd rather not do this for every computer in the domain though. Even if it could be scripted I'd have to manually type every hostname..not fun. I've read that enabling dynamic DNS on the DNS server should fix this but it doesn't appear to. We have "Always dynamically update DNS A and PTR records" checked and also "Dynamically update DNS A and PTR records for DHCP clients that do not request updates"
On the Mac client I've tried enabling and disabling the enable dyanmic DNS checkbox..
Is there a way to change this via a switch either on the backend or in the client itself without having to change that hostname file?

Jul 27, 2010When I first installed iWork the document would be centered on the screen and viewing it in fullscreen mode would have the document centered with black on both sides. While toggleing a few settings to try things out I realized the document was now shoved into the upper-left portion of the window, with large gray areas to the right and below. Also, when I activate fullscreen, the document is on the left half and there is a huge gray box on the right. I am wondering what setting I changed, and how to reverse the large gray catastrophe.

Oct 25, 2010I've been using itunes for a while and it just messed my entire music library up! I've found something that is more Winamp style for me named "Cog". Now my problem is that I want to control it with the F7, F8, F9 keys which are the rewind, play and forward keys, but when pressing any of them it works both on itunes and cog player. How can I disable the Itunes link to it? I want it to control only Cog player.
