Right now I'm running a MBP out to a larger cinema display and I purchased an HP wireless keyboard that I really like. I've been able to use System Preferences to swap the Option and Command keys, but I'm having trouble swapping the Ctrl and Fn keys. Do I need a 3rd party app for this?

I just got a macbook pro 15.4 with 10.6.4 or updated OS. The ctrl+F2 (move focus to top drop down menus such as file, edt, etc) doesn't work. History: Loaded everything, updated software and then noticed it didn't work. Called mac, went back and forth, in the end they said do a reinstall.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI tend to use alot of my F-keys in Windows through bootcamp, but certain F-keys with secondary functions on the mac keyboard such as changing the brightness or volume up and down (as an example), keep functioning when I press them.
I did shut off the secondary F-key functions in the Mac system preferences, hoping it would stay inactive when I'm in Windows. Unfortunately they still turn my brightness up and down when, let's say, I hit the F1 or F2 keys in Windows.
Does anybody know any way to shut this off in Windows? Does it have to do with any drivers installed?
i've been trying to get 64-bit Windows 7 on my iMac by adding drivers one by one. The only driver that's giving me trouble is the keyboard one. The F-Keys do not work like they are supposed to. They are just the Windows default meaning the brightness keys don't change brightness and the sound keys don't change the sound. I have tried both the Leopard BootCamp drivers as well as the Snow Leopard BootCamp drivers and neither have changed how the F-Keys behave. Is there another driver i'm missing that I have to install?
Also i'm using the Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard for whatever that's worth.
I have recently put windows 7 professional on my aluminum macbook, installed all the drivers, and so forth. I hook up my macbook up to an external monitor, and use a logitech dinovo keyboard for a mac. However, when I am in windows 7, the function keys do not adjust volume, brightness, and any other of the functions.

Usually I had it setup that my email at work was open on 4, web up on 1, chat on 2, and 3 was my "hey, I wasn't fooling around" blank desktop. Has anyone else noticed it stopped working? (might have been when I upgraded from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6?)
I checked in the spaces config, I just saw the settings to use the arrow keys with the control, option, or apple keys.
I'm using the thin aluminum USB external keyboard and suddenly my 8ik, diagonal of keys stopped working (now I'm using my laptop keyboard). Anyone know if this is typically a sign of a broken keyboard, or a user issue?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a program called ' VM Ware Fusion which is basically like ' parallels '. I got everything to work except it tells me to restart in order for things to take place. Once i restart it asks ' press Ctrl-Alt-Delete ' to begin.
I have a mac key board and only Control and alt is on it, not DEL.
i don't have an external pc key board is there anything I can do ?
Just installed windows 7 on my MacBook air (older one) The only way I can now sign in is through the the on screen keyboard - On XP you could simulate ctrl alt del with fn control option command and delete. Anyone know the key combination on windows 7?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently bought myself a Macbook Pro 13-inch model and I've been loving it so far. One thing that really bugs me is how bad the menu navigation is in OS X. I just read this on Macrumors and the only way to access menu from keyboard is by using ctrl+F2 key for which I have to press ctrl+fn+f2 key since F2 is a secondary function. Also, there is no way of going directly to the middle of the menu by keyboard shortcuts, right? If that is true, Mac OS X is still not polished enough for laptops. is there are a better way to control the menu items?

The a, q, w and z keys on my keyboard have all swapped around (not physically, but when I press 'q' an 'a' is typed etc), none of the numbers and punctuation keys are in the right places either and I have no idea why.

I'm running an Intel imac with OS X version 10.5.6
My spacebar on the left side is greasier/oilier and used than the right side b/c i type incorrectly but faster for me in which I use my left thumb to hit the space bar.I know on my old HP laptop, the keys got all oily and greasy looking after a while. Is there anything I can do about this? I don't think I can clean it probably just have to deal with it

View 10 Replies View RelatedSomeone spilled something on my delete key and it was pretty sticky so I decided to take it out and clean it. After a few minutes of picking the key to get it out, it relinquished itself and I wiped it off. I then put it back on and now it simply doesn't work when I press it. Am I going to have to go to the professionals to fix it? I later did the same to my Volume Up key to see how I may have screwed up the delete key and it inevitably messed up as well. For a short time my trackpad wouldn't tap when I tapped it so I had to go into the system preferences and turn off the function of the trackpad ignoring accidental taps on the keyboard or something for it to work, so my delete key must currently be pushed down but not functioning correctly (I don't know). Then I somehow crewed up my keyboard shortcuts and now some functions work while others do nothing. On word I can use the shortcuts to save and underline, but can't use them to bold and undo. I use the latter more than the former and I don't have a clue as to why this has happened.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a keyboard with two usb plugs in the back. I use one for my mouse, then run the keyboard's connection into my computer. The mouse works fine but the keys don't work at all [I'm using keyboard viewer to type now]. I plugged my 60gb external hard drive into it a few times this week, could that have something to do with it. I just plugged my keyboard in and it 'pushed buttons' on it's own. it held down the command keys, arrow keys, f12, etc.
View 9 Replies View Relatedall the normal keys on my mac keyboard worked fine on friday when at work and i come in today and they are all messed up. how do i get them back to there defaults? Example, f12 now goes to the desktop instead of actually increasing the volume and f11 is the dashboard instead of decreasing the volume, etc. I am not sure if an update or something got installed or what. I have tried going into keyboard under system preferences and restoring defaults but that didn't work. I also tried powering the keyboard off and on and still a no go. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have one of the new Macbook Pros. The F4 key has a little picture of the dashboard on it, hit that key and the dashboard pops up. I don't use dashboard enough to have it warrant its own key. So I don't want that, I want what I had on my iBook - I hit one of the function keys and Expose shows me the open windows for the application I'm in. I think fine, I'll just repurpose the F4 key. So into keyboard>keyboard shortcuts in system preferences, double click the Expose shortcut for Application Windows and make it F4.
The Dashboard still pops up for F4. Go into the keyboard tab and check the box that reads: "use all F1 F2 etc keys as standard function keys" and tada, the F4 key now does what I want. But obviously the volume keys etc now don't. So I thought I'd just go into keyboard shortcuts and set all the shortcuts to match the pictures on the keys. But I can't find most of them. I've got to be missing a trick - I know if I uncheck that function keys box again I can make expose pop up by holding fn and F4 but I don't want that, I just want F4 to bring up expose instead of the dashboard while the rest of the function keys do what Apple designed them to.
So a few days ago I spilt tea on my MBP. When I opened it back up everything seemed to be in working condition, however a few of my keys were sticky. So, yesterday I took them off and started cleaning. That's when things went down hill.
Now, my keyboard will type two letters at the same time. For example, when I press "r" it will type "ry". It does this for the whole row. The Dashboard key brightens the screen and brings up the dashboard. 4 types 46. f types fh. v types vn. And space doesn't space.
All of a sudden my keyboard isn't working right. The caps lock doesn't work/the tab key isn't working and the escape key isn't working. Now this happened before and I fixed it and have no clue what i did. There is quite a few keys and tricks I don't know.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy cat slept on my MacBook last night and now the keyboard isn't working properly ... Some keys don't do anything at all and some keys do things they shouldn't... Any clues on how to fix this? I called the apple support line and we don't think it was anything to do with the settings in 'universal settings'. I'm not sure what else to do and this is one time I do wish I had a man in the house?! Or at least someone else who has half a clue! I rely haven't had many problems with my MacBook 'till now. I'm operating on Mac os x 10.6.8Â Also, 2 cats free to good home. Or anyhome, it doesn't even need to be 'good'! Â

I just recently got a white Macbook 2007 and after I installed snow leopard on it I realised that the I,K and LEFT,RIGHT,UP,DOWN keys were not working and so I installed leopard on it and still had the same problem I booted into safe mode on both but still no luck and this morning the Z key stop working I turned of mouses keys and that still did not work.
