View 1 RepliesI haven't found anything on internet about this, so how I had founded a solution, I want to share it.
One day, my Macbook White brokes and I needed to recover a curriculum, and it was in a .pages file. So I had to recover it in Windows, because I have no one who could convert it in Pages.
1 Rename .pages file and add .zip extension. That makes the content of the package visible with any zip utility, (in my case WinRAR).
2 Uncompress the package.
3 Go to QuickLook and search for Preview.pdf. That's a pdf file that contains a low quality version of your pages document. Almost all of the content is in index.xml, but It's very difficult to extract manually the information.
4 Convert the pdf file to doc with any pdf converter. For example: [URL]
5 If your document has attachments (like images), you can replace low quality images of Doc document with the original images located in the uncompressed package.
That's it, of course this works for me with a simple Pages document with an image, that doesn't mean that works for every .pages file.
Does anybody have a good free text editor to recommend for OS X?
Basically, I want something that's developer friendly, with as many of these features as possible:
1) Colour syntax code highlighting (ex Java, C, Perl, HTML, etc)
2) Column select mode
3) Line numbers
4) Character numbers in line
5) Regular expression search and replace (grep)
6) Line wrapping on/off
7) Tabs or equivalent
8) Diff between files
I have MacVim and it does most of this, but the interface could be improved a bit.
If no free editor does this, I'm willing to consider TextMate or BBEdit.
I am currently living in canada and would love for a way to txt my friends in england is there an app that will do this. I tried google voice but apparently it only accessible to people in the U.S.

I dont like TextEdit as it keeps all formatting hyperlinks etc. I need to be able to copy text from a website, paste it into a program, which will then strip everything out of it apart from the actual text, and then copy it back from said program.
Is there any reliable text to speech application for mac that is free? by text to speach i mean it types what i say in programs such as MS office
View 4 Replies View RelatedAs I was trying to set up my brand new 13-inch MBP with my favorites application, I realized that Smultron will no longer be in development. There fore i looking for a replacement, that is a free text editor. I have downloaded TextWrangler and I was wondering if you knew other good software. Basically i am doing web design and at work I often need raw text without any rich edition. I also like the tab navigation. Smultron was good because it only did what I needed.

Now, I could use my iPhone (and I may have to) but we all know all the iPhone has some issues with dropped calls from time to time.
So I was wondering if there anything on the market that would allow me make calls via VOIP on my Mac? Ideally free or even a 30 day free trail.
I've had a text file on my desktop for a while, I dragged it from one side of the screen to the other. When I let go of the mouse button the file disappeared! Its not in the trash, I've tried arranging files just in case it was hidden, no where to be found.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't find where Motion is saving text styles in 10.9.3
Don't say Library/Application Support/Motion/Library/Text Styles because it isn't true. I've checked over and over. Everyone that answered this question was a year ago.
Oh yeah. Motion is FUBAR when saving styles. I will save the first one. Create another style and try to save that and it saves my previous style over and over and over. I just blew off hours saving styles for a project and only the first one work, every other style is a duplicate of the first one I set. You should have an exact preview or something like that before it is saved. This entire process should be like Photoshop. I should be able to save a style palette for a customer in a file and reuse that rather than cluttering my styles folder with legacy information. You have this feature on the color palette, why not Motion and all other apps?
And Apple, it would be so cool if the finder had a mode that allowed searching under the hood, as it were. When files are saved in Libraries and you can't search there it is a huge time waster. Jobs used to brag about plug-and-play. This is more like hunt-and-peck. Don't give me some crap about the command line interface, I want an easy way to find files.
I am looking for a basic but functional clean business type iweb template, could not find a proper one yet, the ones i liked are not free.
Do you know where i can find ?
I recently upgraded to Lion but still a newbie to Mac OS X. I need to be able to check available space on internal hard drive.

I want to create some tutorials for my software class. I remember seeing some software for the mac that is excellent for the job. I can't remember what the name of the software is.
The software is as follows:
- You take some screenshots of various stages of using the software
- You then add text in the software
- You can then create a tutorial out of it
If I take some video from my digital camera, how do I upload it onto Utube once it is on my computor?
Is there a video tutorial that anyone knows about?
I recently set up OS X Server 10.4 (Tiger) on an old G4 for my home office use and so far it's been running beautifully. As I was learning how to get it up and running, I created a blog to document the process. If you're starting off on a similar endeavor, it might be helpful. If anything, it'll give you an idea of what setting up OS X Server entails. The link to the OS X Server 10.4 tutorial: [URL]. I also put together a tutorial on setting up the AMP package (Apache, MySQL, and PHP) on OS X client and server: [URL]

I constantly see new threads concerning slow boot times. In the spirit of efficiency here is a quick tutorial to achieve optimal boot times on your MBP. First of all, I have a WD Scorpio Black in my MBP. My MBP boots in 22 seconds (from chime to desktop including fully loaded menubar with istat). I'm on 10.6.2. Second. You will need to do a lot more than just restore disk permissions to obtain the fastest possible boot time. Defragging your disk on the other is not necessary one of those things in my experience. Third. Hard-drive performance, in general and specifically when it comes to boot time, is greatly effected by the amount of used space (I've only used about 14% of the available space on my drive). If you have used say about 80% of the free space on your drive, don't expect a fast boot time (or great drive performance in general) no matter what you do.
Here's is what you should do. Obviously if you are going to benchmark your boot time you should disconnect all peripheral and turn of Bluetooth and Airport and have no files or folders on your desktop.
Download either MainMenu or Onyx and use it to do the following:
- Run all the OS X maintenance scripts (daily, weekly and monthly)
- Clean the system cache, all user caches and the font caches. Flush the DNS cache
- Remove temporary files
- Update pre-bindings
- Remove corrupt preferences
- Restore disk permissions
After all the maintenance do the following:
- Reset PRAM & PMU
- Restart your computer once more and then shut it down.
Now you can start your MBP and time the boot from when you hear the chime to when you see the desktop and the menubar is fully loaded. And remember if you are going to benchmark your boot time you should disconnect all peripheral and turn off Bluetooth and Airport and have no files or folders on your desktop.
I can type a search word into Spotlight. It will show results. I then open let's say an Appleworks text document from that search. Then I close that document and retry the same search: Now that same document will not show up in the search results for that exact word and it WILL NEVER show up again in search results. In other words after a file has been found and opened in search once , it will never appear in search results again for the same word.

After emptying the trash, I've noticed that Lion does not see the additional free space until after doing a reboot, and even after that it takes a long time for it to find all the new free space. Anybody know what's wrong with the trash system?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Lacie external hard disk that was originally formatted for PCs. I have some files there, but more importantly, my iTunes library is saved directly on the Lacie (I have everything on apple lossless, so they are some big files). I will keep using this PC while connected to the Lacie hard disk to syncro my iPod.
The problem is that I bought a mac now and I wanted the Lacie hard disk to be able to transfer files from mac to pc and vice versa. I have already read that I would have to copy the files that are on the Lacie, reformat the Lacie and then paste the files back. My only doubt is that if I do this reformatting, will I have any problems using the iTunes library while connected to my pc and iPod?
I just ask that because every time I changed any iTunes library folder on the computer, the iTunes would say that the music file couldnt be found and ask me if I wanted to look for the file. I didnt want to reformat the Lacie to later find out that I would have to look for every single music file, because that would be nearly impossible. I dont know if I was able to make my question really clear
After using Migration Assistant to transfer files from PC to Mac, I can not find the files on my Mac?
