I've had a text file on my desktop for a while, I dragged it from one side of the screen to the other. When I let go of the mouse button the file disappeared! Its not in the trash, I've tried arranging files just in case it was hidden, no where to be found.
View 3 RepliesOn my Mac Mini, the operation to drag a pdf file from the downloads folder to the desktop has frozen. Nothing I do, can delete the file, interrupt the process or arrest the spinning progress wheel. Other Symptoms The rest of the system (OSX 10.7.3) has become sluggish and Paralles 7 / Windows 7 won't open. Some preferences in Mail (from whiuch the pdf origintaed) have become corrupted or lost. Now, Finder wont reveal certain document sub-folders which were connected with the 'dragging' operation, but shows them empty even though I have since moved files into them.

I am dragging and dropping a logo into Mail.app signature pane. The image is saved as a jpg, when I drag into the mail signature pane it's file name is 'PastedGraphic.tiff'. I am assuming there is file format preference somewhere that can keep the image either it's original format, or convert to a jpg, vs. a .tif
Most other email clients won't display this format. .

Don't say Library/Application Support/Motion/Library/Text Styles because it isn't true. I've checked over and over. Everyone that answered this question was a year ago.
Oh yeah. Motion is FUBAR when saving styles. I will save the first one. Create another style and try to save that and it saves my previous style over and over and over. I just blew off hours saving styles for a project and only the first one work, every other style is a duplicate of the first one I set. You should have an exact preview or something like that before it is saved. This entire process should be like Photoshop. I should be able to save a style palette for a customer in a file and reuse that rather than cluttering my styles folder with legacy information. You have this feature on the color palette, why not Motion and all other apps?
And Apple, it would be so cool if the finder had a mode that allowed searching under the hood, as it were. When files are saved in Libraries and you can't search there it is a huge time waster. Jobs used to brag about plug-and-play. This is more like hunt-and-peck. Don't give me some crap about the command line interface, I want an easy way to find files.
I can type a search word into Spotlight. It will show results. I then open let's say an Appleworks text document from that search. Then I close that document and retry the same search: Now that same document will not show up in the search results for that exact word and it WILL NEVER show up again in search results. In other words after a file has been found and opened in search once , it will never appear in search results again for the same word.

why everythime I click on a .txt or other file, do I have to check the little box everytime to open every single .txt file with a different name? Sure if I open the same file again it will open with text edit but this gets old.
I love how Windows will open all .txt files with word pad or note pad but OS X is not like this. There has to be a better way.
I have a ton of job applications to fill out and hopefully turn them all in tomorrow. I have so many job apps, but rather than filling them all out by hand I'd much rather type the info into the PDF file directly and then print them out, ready to go. What's the best way to do this? I started out downloading Adobe Reader, later realizing there is a difference between Reader and Adobe Acrobat. Then after searching for a while I noticed the trial version of Acrobat I downloaded from Adobe's site is for Windows only; discovering Acrobat for Mac only went up to version 8.
There are no free trial downloads of version 8 for mac out there. I'd really hate to have to print out over 70 sheets of paper and fill them out one by one, box by box. Will "Preview" allow me to edit and add text on each job application? I'll respond quickly, as i'm looking for a solid solution on the matter. The only thing I've found, though don't really like it is uploading the PDF file online to a specific website and editing it there, text box by text box...seems, a bit of a hassle.

When I open it I can read it but that seems to be all.
I want to allow my Google group to fill info out on a Numbers form, but the Mac users evidently don't have Numbers. I sent it to them as a pdf file, but text can't be added to it as a pdf file. There has got to be a way. I tried using Tools - annotate - add text, but that didn't really work.

I use a text edit file as a to-do list; however, it doesn't play nice. When I click on its icon, it pops up somewhere other than where I want it. I've tried "Preferences" and TextEdit help on and off line. I can't find any info on it. I'm probably not using the exact words that 'help' would recognize. I've tried saying "Simon Says" too, but that doesn't work either.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to automate scanning to my printer to create a virtual colour copier and came across some automator scripts (very simple). However, when I try to use the "Print Images" action it results in junk text printing instead of the image. I then took a step back and tried printing a JPG file directly by dragging and dropping onto a desktop printer icon and I get the same result. This is therefore not an automator issue. I also tried this on both an HP Photosmart P1100 and an HP Laserjet 4 Plus and get the same result on both. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong? Running fully updated 10.6.2 and can print images just fine to either printer from applications such as Preview or iPhoto.

I bought her a itouch for Christmas that will get around it better. but it would be good to have a simple txt or word doc type file on the desktop to look at. over the years she has a txt file with the info I put it all in her address book but the file is faster. but it is a mess too.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a large text file, and I'd like to turn each page of the text file into a slide in a presentation (PowerPoint, I guess, though I'm open to alternatives as long as they're cross-platform and idiot-proof). Is there any way to do this using OpenOffice or NeoOffice? The text file is currently in RTF (TextEdit) form, so I can easily convert it to .doc or PDF. Formatting should be maintained, but it's nothing too complex; just some boldface and centering. I'm looking to make cue slides out of the lines of a play. I have all the lines, and I can re-paginate it easily enough, but I'm at a loss as to how to make slides out of it. I don't have the time/patience to manually create hundreds of slides and paste in each line one by one.
