Dec 15, 2008When using the Disk Utility free space wipe to wipe sensitive data (using the 7 times option), I thought that would be sufficient.
I was wondering though, does the free space wipe option also wipe the slack files on the hard drive? Is this even an issue for a Mac? (I know on Windows the slack file needs to be wiped for a completely secure erase, right?)

May 29, 2010I want to convert some video files (specifically swf in this case) to audio files so I can listen on my iPod. I looked everywhere and can't find some free software that does that. There are tons that have trial periods with lots of limitations (like it won't convert anything larger than a 5k size file) so I don't want those because I won't know if the thing works well unless I pay for it. I'm not opposed to paying for a converter IF I know it works awesome on a Mac.

Jun 4, 2010I regularly receive songs in WAV format. In the past, I have always converted them to AIFF to overcome tagging limitations with WAV. Up until recently, I converted songs from WAV to AIFF by right-clicking them in iTunes, then choosing "make AIFF file" (that's not the exact wording, but similar). Just tried to do so today and found that this option is now missing! Was this removed in the latest version of iTunes [I'm running 9.1.1 (12)]? Could it perhaps be restored by some command-line entry in Terminal?

Mar 1, 2007Whenever I try to get AVG Anti-Virus Free, it only directs me to a link to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.5. Since I had 7.1 removed from my machine, this upgrade obviously will not work. Feb 19, 2009I am hoping to convert WMA files to MP3 formate on a mac. I tried out the program named switch but I was unable to make that work (I was only using the trial version anyway. I did see the thread that was started in Nov 06 but it seems to be a little too old for discussion sakes. I was also hopping for new information/evolution of programs and freeware. I will try what it says about switch but I doubt it will work.
If you have any other programs, I would love to hear about them. (just as a side note, the WMA files could be protected. I don't know if they are and I dont know how to know if they are or are not. I read on the switch application page that it supports the decoded version of WMA thus that might be the reason it doesn't work).
