Feb 10, 2009I need screen capturing software. Not just snapshot, Grab does well for that matter. I need to capture video and audio from chat (not ichat). Open source, freeware seems don't exist and screenflow or ishowu seems quite cumbersome.

I need to be able to record on screen activities so I can add in clips of the desktop and what not to my iMovie files. I have found a not so free program called Snapz Pro which seems to have what I need. I'm more interested in freeware of course, so are there any similar programs to this one?

Jul 1, 2008I have a Sony DCR-PC100 Camcorder that uses mini DV tape for recording, and am trying to get the video onto my mac. I have tried in iMovie '06,'08 and Final Cut Express, and I keep getting the same problem. I connect the camera via firewire, and set the camera to VTR. The app recognizes the camera (Final Cut even specifies the model number correctly) and can access it enough so that when you hit play it starts the camera playing. But it never gets video or audio coming into the computer, instead it just keeps the capture preview as black or blue. Eventually it just color wheels for a while and freezes or has to be shut down. I am using an iMac G5, but have tried it on an Intel MacBook Pro, and the same problem happens. I also tried it on a PC and it worked fine, so I dont think it is the camera, but I have a lot of video to upload, so I need to do it on my iMac. Does anyone know why this would be happening, and what some possible solutions would be?

Mar 17, 2009i've connected my DV camera into my computer, its been recognized by final cut, and will let me import (capture). But when i go to import it doesnt divide the footage into clips as its being captured. Is there a way to modify this? Or does it divide after its done importing? Or not at all?

I�m about to buy the new iMAC 27" and have in mind to buy a bidirectional video converter: There�s a note that says: "A video capture card or OHCI FireWire connection is required to capture DV. IEEE 1934 FW800 connectors are not supported". But I read that I could connect this device to the FW800 port with a FW400 to FW800 adapter (or otherwise buy the FireWire 800(1394b)/FireWire 400 (1394a) 9-Pin to 4-Pin Interconnect Cable) and would work fine as if was compelling with IEEE1934 rules. I wonder if FCS would recognize the video signal and I�m not making a mistake buying this device. Capturing analog media is part of my services. Any suggestions of a similar device that would work with a FW800 connection? Or the Canopus ADVC110 will work properly in the new iMAC?

Jun 8, 2009I'm looking to get some sort of video capture thingy for my new Mac Pro, as in, "hook up a VCR or video game console to it via S-Video or RCA inputs".
I know that there are a few USB/Firewire plug-and-play solutions out there, but i've always been the "put everything on the inside" kind of guy. Back when i was messing around with this before x amount of years ago the most affordable-vs-quality and efficient option for me was a PCI card.
I tried to do some googling on cards for the PCI Express slots in my Mac and was surprised that the options were few and far between and did not actually save me much money versus the USB/Firewire counterparts, so i'm wondering: is my philosophy outdated? Should i conform to the norm and get one of those external solutions, and if so, can anyone speak to the quality of the various ones that are available on the market?

May 10, 2010I wanted to get some ideas on how to capture Skype audio calls and the Video from MeBeam.com Since Skype does not allow video conferencing (more than to video calls) I had to resort to MeBeam.com to show the video during the Skype calls. What I want to do is capture both the video feed and Skype audio to archive. At this point it doesn't matter if the audio and video are in true sync. Any ideas on how to capture the audio and video or a program that will allow me to do video conferencing (more than 2 people).

Oct 8, 2009I haven't found anything on internet about this, so how I had founded a solution, I want to share it.
One day, my Macbook White brokes and I needed to recover a curriculum, and it was in a .pages file. So I had to recover it in Windows, because I have no one who could convert it in Pages.
1� Rename .pages file and add .zip extension. That makes the content of the package visible with any zip utility, (in my case WinRAR).
2� Uncompress the package.
3� Go to QuickLook and search for Preview.pdf. That's a pdf file that contains a low quality version of your pages document. Almost all of the content is in index.xml, but It's very difficult to extract manually the information.
4� Convert the pdf file to doc with any pdf converter. For example: [URL]
5� If your document has attachments (like images), you can replace low quality images of Doc document with the original images located in the uncompressed package.
That's it, of course this works for me with a simple Pages document with an image, that doesn't mean that works for every .pages file.

Feb 16, 2009I am trying to run Darwine 0.9.27 on my Mac (OSX 10.5.6) for emulation purposes, however it does not work. I downloaded X11 2.3.2.1 from the Xquartz project to make sure I was up to date with X11, however that did not solve the problem. For example, here is the error I get when I try and run Knytt, a compact, free Windows game: err:module:attach_process_dlls "gdi32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\Users\Banjaloupe\Games\Knytt\Knytt.exe" failed, status c0000005
I think the problem is with X11, since I also cannot run GIMPshop, which I know needs X11. However, I have no experience at all using X11 in the first place, which is why I am quite stumped. Of course, the real issue could be with Darwine, or some other incompatibility I'm missing.

Oct 10, 2006My mother is switching to mac soon, mostly likely an iMac to use as a family computer for her and my youger sister. She likes what sees so far especially in parental controls. However, she wants to be able to keep tabs on my younger sister to make she isn't going to places or saying things she shouldn't be on the web; she wants a second layer of security (she worries that she can get around things parental controls because she is very computer savvy). I figured a keylogger would be the best thing because we could keep track of everything she types on the mac. Does anyone know any good (free) keyloggers for mac?
