I switched to a mac almost a year ago. About a month after purchasing my macbook, i installed this application, and then i didn't want it anymore. The app didn't uninstall properly and it crippled the mac (in my rookie mind). I then made another stupid decision of reinstalling leopard on the macbook. Everything installed correctly except garageband 08. It wasn't there, since i never used it, i just forgot about it later until i got a copy from a friend who recently purchased an imac. I just copied the app onto a flash drive and put it on the macbook. The app worked, except there wasn't any instruments, loops, etc. Now i want to use grageband and i was wondering how i can get those back. Are they on one of the install dvd's? Do i copy folders from my friends mac to mine?, if so which ones and where?
Does anyone know if the Software Instruments that GarageBand provides will be compatible with MIDI Wind Controllers such as the Yamaha WX5? These instruments use continuous breath control as opposed to the velocity/aftertouch and envelopes more appropriate to keyboardand percussion instruments.
I was playing around with Garage Band 08 and I started to download some new instruments. The complete file was about 1 GB so I canceled the download but now Apple Update is offering me to install the "update" all the time. How can I get rid of this?
I have only just got a MIDI keyboard conencted via USB to control the software instruments on Garageband. The only problem I am finding is if I say, sample some drums, I can only play them back by manually placing them in the chord orchestrator. What I basically need/want is to control the track (the part on the left) by a single press on the keyboard; so if I wanted 2 kicks to sound, I'd press the key twice. But at the moment it's just not registering at all, and only allows me to play the stock software instruments with the keyboard
I have downloaded and saved several garage ban lessons onto my macbook pro... which I use mainly at work. I would like to copy the lessons onto my Mac Mini which I use at home...
I cannot seem to find the locations of the lesson files? any ideas how I can acheive this?
I want to create some tutorials for my software class. I remember seeing some software for the mac that is excellent for the job. I can't remember what the name of the software is.
The software is as follows:
- You take some screenshots of various stages of using the software
I haven't found anything on internet about this, so how I had founded a solution, I want to share it.
One day, my Macbook White brokes and I needed to recover a curriculum, and it was in a .pages file. So I had to recover it in Windows, because I have no one who could convert it in Pages.
1 Rename .pages file and add .zip extension. That makes the content of the package visible with any zip utility, (in my case WinRAR).
2 Uncompress the package.
3 Go to QuickLook and search for Preview.pdf. That's a pdf file that contains a low quality version of your pages document. Almost all of the content is in index.xml, but It's very difficult to extract manually the information.
4 Convert the pdf file to doc with any pdf converter. For example: [URL]
5 If your document has attachments (like images), you can replace low quality images of Doc document with the original images located in the uncompressed package.
That's it, of course this works for me with a simple Pages document with an image, that doesn't mean that works for every .pages file.
Not sure why this is happening, but I hear a distortion on the highs and certain instruments when I download certain CD's onto my iTunes library and then listen to them on either my Bose, headphones, or car stereo. I verified my setting on my iPod, and even leveled the Sound Check option, but nothing works. Does this mean that it's better to purchased the songs directly from iTunes so it can sound better or is there another option I haven't figured out. Also, are all the songs on iTunes remastered and sound levels automatically adjusted already?
I am working with logic express 8 and would like to assign software instruments such as clarinet and celli to the midi-files of my keyboard. Yesterday I couldn't find woodwind instruments in the library of logic so I started to download mainstage 2 - which seemed to extend the library of logic. But unfortunately some software instruments (for example cello...) disappeared and instead of extending my library in logic mainstage made it smaller.
Info: Logic Studio, Mac OS X (10.7.3), I am working with Logic Express 8
I recently set up OS X Server 10.4 (Tiger) on an old G4 for my home office use and so far it's been running beautifully. As I was learning how to get it up and running, I created a blog to document the process. If you're starting off on a similar endeavor, it might be helpful. If anything, it'll give you an idea of what setting up OS X Server entails. The link to the OS X Server 10.4 tutorial: [URL]. I also put together a tutorial on setting up the AMP package (Apache, MySQL, and PHP) on OS X client and server: [URL]
I constantly see new threads concerning slow boot times. In the spirit of efficiency here is a quick tutorial to achieve optimal boot times on your MBP. First of all, I have a WD Scorpio Black in my MBP. My MBP boots in 22 seconds (from chime to desktop including fully loaded menubar with istat). I'm on 10.6.2. Second. You will need to do a lot more than just restore disk permissions to obtain the fastest possible boot time. Defragging your disk on the other is not necessary one of those things in my experience. Third. Hard-drive performance, in general and specifically when it comes to boot time, is greatly effected by the amount of used space (I've only used about 14% of the available space on my drive). If you have used say about 80% of the free space on your drive, don't expect a fast boot time (or great drive performance in general) no matter what you do.
Here's is what you should do. Obviously if you are going to benchmark your boot time you should disconnect all peripheral and turn of Bluetooth and Airport and have no files or folders on your desktop.
Download either MainMenu or Onyx and use it to do the following: - Run all the OS X maintenance scripts (daily, weekly and monthly) - Clean the system cache, all user caches and the font caches. Flush the DNS cache - Remove temporary files - Update pre-bindings - Remove corrupt preferences - Restore disk permissions
After all the maintenance do the following: - Reset PRAM & PMU - Restart your computer once more and then shut it down.
Now you can start your MBP and time the boot from when you hear the chime to when you see the desktop and the menubar is fully loaded. And remember if you are going to benchmark your boot time you should disconnect all peripheral and turn off Bluetooth and Airport and have no files or folders on your desktop.
in the last two days, when i make something in garageband and i want to export to disk. before i would choose my desktop and after normalizing and converting...it would put a mp3 on my desktop. recently when i do this, it normalizes the track...but it just stops after that....no mp3 on my desktop....i have to send it to itunes now and then pull it out of itunes to have an mp3....what is going on?
Instead of reinstalling GB on another HD by CD/DVD, is it possible to just take the GB Library Folder and take the app too? Or is it not possible? If I can, do I need any other files?
I'm having Trouble when i connect my guitar to my imac I'm using the midi guitar cable that i bought from the Apple shop along with my imac a few years back.
I'm just about to start recording some of my own music Bass,Drum, guitar. Everything is pretty much sorted but since i started to use garageband 09 i keep getting this message pop up (Below).
It's getting to the point of frustration because no matter what option i select it will still pop up. Please can anyone shed any light on this for me and help please.
I have a couple questions regarding GarageBand 08 and recording with it.
1) Is it possible to connect a vocal mic to GarageBand, put an effect on that, and have a live output of the signal coming from the mic with the effect on it without having to record the audio first?
2) I have a Yamaha keyboard that has a MIDI and 1/4" jack output on. I am interested in connecting the keyboard to my Mac for use in recording. Would it be possible to run the audio signal from the 1/4" jack to the 1/8" jack on my Mac and record the audio in GarageBand and be able to apply effects to that track (i.e. synthesizers)?
Can anyone send original icon of Garandband 11 please. The problem is that I change the icon for another one and now I want the original but I can find it in any sit web.
I'm having trouble getting sound out of Garageband - I've boiled it down to simply trying to play simple Apple loops or use musical typing to play software instruments. Sound is working properly in all other applications, including iTunes, Peak and Final Cut Pro. Audio input/output is set to Built-In in both GB preferences and Audio-Midi preferences. The MIDI is recording (ie, I can see a track appear when I play, and I see levels in the track) but for some reason the audio is not getting down to the mixer below (volume is up all the way on individual track and bottom right main, mute is off). I'm running OS 10.4.8 with Garageband 3.0.2.
I can't figure out how to use a new microphone with garageband. It plugs into the line-in part on my gf's MBP (the one next to the headphone port, right?), and i choose "Line-In" from the sound preference pane... but it's still using the internal mic when recording on garageband. I also remember trying to record with my guitar plugged into the comp, and that didn't work either.
I am going to purchase Yamaha DTXpress electronic drum set and I'll want to connect it to my Mac with GarageBand. The sound module of the drum set has midi-in-out (big round ports). What cable to I need to make garageband see not a single audio-wave, but a track where each hit on the drums is actually a separate note?
Is buying logic advisable if I use garageband? The thing I cannot wait to try is MainStage, it looks fantastic. Is there seriously that much of a difference between logic and garageband? Right now however, I'm just messing around with garageband and such. Is there seriously that much of a difference between logic and garageband? Though in the next few months, I plan on utilizing my mac more professional reasons. The reasons I bought it for, recording. (So far, its just an expensive type writer).
