i downloaded a virus scanner for mac and found 18 trojans. so i deleted them and now all of my bookmarks and all of my music and folders in itunes have been deleted.

I have edited renamed moved the bookmarks from bookmarks bar without a problem until I quite safari. Once I reopen safari all changes I made disappear and it reverts back to original with all bookmarks on bookmarks bar. what am I doing wrong that i cannot make permanent changes to my bookmark bar on Safari 5.1.3?

I have a question for the the Safari geeks out here (1.1.1 version 100.1, running on MacOSX 10.3.2): I have imported my bookmarks from a Mozilla install on a Linux box, based on a hint I found here with the debug options (worked great!!!), and I have the following questions related to adding a new bookmark (based on the fact that my bookmarks are organized in multi-level folders, e.g. OperatingSystems->Linux->Security->Firewall, etc.):
- when opening Bookmarks->Add bookmark ..., how could I possibly collapse all the levels, so that I can easily scroll, and open/drill down into the appropriate level of bookmarks, without having to scroll thrrough all (by default) expanded levels? ... especially critical as some sub-categories may match names, with different higher level bookmarks, thus having to make sure I am where I want to be (e.g. I have a Security folder under OS->Mac, as I have one under OS->Linux, and I have to remember which one I am under, if the "parent" is out of the scrolling window);
- is there any easy way to add a new "level/folder", through Bookmarks->Add bookmark, at the time of salvaging a new one, vs. having to open the Bookmarks in a new window, adding the folder, then returning to add the new bookmark?
I hope the above makes sense ... I am probably hopeful - also - that people may have already run into this before
Okay so i downloaded the the iTunes 10, and installed it!
But the when i would like to see my Music Libary all my music was GONE!
I must have accidentally deleted a whole genre of music from my iTunes, but I do not see the songs in my trash. My music was not purchased from itunes, just uploaded from CDs, that I no longer have, its about 300 songs, so I will be sad if they are gone forever.Â

I added a few new albums to different artist folders, and instead of adding each folder to the library individually [using "Add to Library" from the File menu], I decided to take a shortcut and add my entire Music folder to the Library.
Now, a load of stuff is missing, and I have a massive collection, so I don't know exactly what's there and exactly what has gone. Searching using Finder confirms that the files are completely gone from my hard drive.
I have been clearing up my itunes music and have sometimes not clicked on the move files to trash to completely delete them. They are now removed form the itunes library but how do I find all the files no longer in itunes, but still held in the itunes directory? Also, I read that there could also be many duplicates, is there a way I can find them as well? I dont want to have to buy a third party program.Â

I have used spotlight to search to try to find the missing file, but without fail it opens my college notes from ten years ago. That's interesting. I suppose it is gone for good and I have to buy it again, preferably from the i-apple-store??

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy iTunes folder is in /Louis/Music/iTunes, but for some reason iTunes keeps creating a separate folder /Macintosh HD/Music and dumping a few songs by a few different artists there. I've tried 'consolidating' the library twice, deleting the songs from iTunes and re-adding them. I have the 'keep iTunes music folder organized' option as well as the 'copy files into iTunes folder' options checked. Nothing works. What is wrong? It makes absolutely no sense why it would create it's own random folder and dump the songs there.
View 15 Replies View RelatedWhen I go into my iTunes folder (on windows ) all of my music folders are empty. There is an artist folder and an album folder for all my music but each one appears empty.
When I right click on the main iTunes folder it tells me that I have 26gB of stuff so it must be there somewhere (and I haven't set them to be hidden files). When I am using iTunes and go onto 'Get Info' for a song, it tells me that it is in the iTunes folder. Also, when I search for a specific song title in Windows, the file is shown.

Each time I've gone from an iPhone to a different OS phone, either ALL my music disappears from my MacBook or (as most recently) a portion has deleted..... And if I try to rebuy the songs, it says I already have them? but they aren't there....I respect iPhones, but I enjoy the phone I have now and don't plan on going back to an iPhone any time soon.Â

I have a MacPro (Intel), and I had my Music folder on a second (non-boot) internal drive. That drive was getting full, so I bought yet another internal drive to put in one of the other bays, thinking to copy the folders to the new, larger-capacity drive. So I bought a 2 Tb drive and transferred all my MOVIES to the new drive, but then went back and deleted my MUSIC folder and emptied the trash. I knew immediately that I'd made a mistake.
I haven't written anything to that drive whatsoever from that moment on, so absolutely nothing should have been over-written. I have plenty of room on the new drive to which I can recover the deleted files. Unfortunately the folder/directory was very large, with over 20,000 files, mostly of podcasts/spoken word stuff, much of which is no longer available or would represent thousands of hours of download time, plus all my digitized folk music from long out-of-print LP records.
You'd think I'd be more responsible with >600 Gb of data! However, fortunately the drive is in good working order, it just requires a good recovery strategy. I know that services that do recovery charge a fortune, and because I haven't written anything to that drive and it still mounts without problems, I'm hoping I can do this myself with a good data recovery software package. Because I am talking about literally thousands of files, it is just too painful to think about editing all the metadata about each file (name, artist, album, etc.), and ideally I would like to recover the files and the file structure so podcasts are recovered as such, etc.
Is this at all possible?
If so, what are the relative merits of File Salvage vs. Data Rescue vs. Kernel for Macintosh (Nucleus Data Recovery) vs. VirtualLab Data Recovery vs. Stellar Phoenix? Is there something better than these--these are the only ones I found on a Web search. Are there any head-to-head reviews of which someone is aware?
i successfully rerouted iTunes so that the program would find my music library on external hard drive. Two days ago, my Apple MacBook computer was updated to the Lion operating system. iTunes was also updated.Now I have to go back into iTunes and give the program new instruction to go find the music files on external hard drive.My folder on external hard drive, called "iTunes Music," contains various music files and also, I notice, a folder called "iTunes." I do not understand WHICH FILE OR FOLDER I should instruct iTunes to go to in order to find the desired music files.Once the desired files are found, they should appear in the iTunes window on screen. I have tried holding down the Option key while starting iTunes, which yields a window that asks for me to CHOOSE LIBRARY. I choose the iTunes library file ( iTunes Library.itl) that is located on external hard drive. However, NOTHING HAPPENS. iTunes does not do anything. When the program opens, nothing is visible in the iTunes window, where normally songs are listed. No playlists on the lefthand side. NOTHING.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have tried everything to get rid of dozens of duplicate Bookmarks Menu and Bookmark Bar folders in Safari's bookmarks. But despite everything as soon as they sync they all appear again. I am trying to syc two MacPros, MacBook Air, iPhone and iPad2. I phoned the helpline which worked at the time, by turning off synching, dumping all the User > Library > Safari folders then putting the same backup file from Time Machine onto all of them. Then turning on iCloud again. Until it all synched again causing the same problem. I have just tried all this again. I now have perhaps a hundred empty folders called Bookmarks Menu and Bookmark Bar. With .Mac and .Me this used to work perfectly. With iCloud it is a MESS.

I am starting to get too many Bookmarks, and would like to put them in Sub folders INSIDE the Apple Folder. How to create Sub folders inside the Apple folder though. I am running Safari 5.1.4
View 2 Replies View RelatedSafari 5.1.7 under OS X 10.7.4 simply refuses to let me rearrange folders within the Bookmarks Menu. I use Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks and select Bookmarks Menu in the sidear. If I now drag and drop a folder within that menu, it just pops right back to where it was before. I've tried all the methods I know:Â
(1) Drag com.apple.Safari.plist out of ~/Library/Preferences and restart Safari. Same problem.Â
(2) Use the app SafariSort [URL], which alphabetizes all the folders and their contents. But as soon as I now try to drag-and-drop a folder or a bookmark, the order of everything reverts to the original (unwanted) order. exactly, does Safari store the list of Bookmark Menu folders? I examined com.apple.Safari.plist in both the XCode plist editor and in a plain text editor, but I don't see them there. (And actually it's obvious that the bookmarks cannot be there, since after I remove com.apple.Safari.plist and restart Safari, the bookmarks are back; where were they)
