I upgraded to Lion which seems to run fine. However, I no longer have access to my imported bookmarks that have several years worth of favorites. I also notice that I do not have access to the Bookmark editor that is supposed to open and allow me to move and arrange bookmarks. I click on show all bookmarks and I have the imported folder, but cannot access any of the bookmarks and the editor does not open. I used the disk utility to repair disk permissions, but this did not help.

Other than going into 'show all Bookmarks' is there any alternative way of editing my bookmarks? I've collected hundreds and dragging them around one by one is going to be pretty time consuming. I used to have a third-party app called 'Bookmark Farm' which gave me a way of visually categorizing in a graphic layout. Now, when I want to Bookmark, got to scroll through folders and subfolders. Must be an easier way!

I'm struggling with my Safari bookmarks in OS X Lion.Since upgrading to Lion and activating iCloud for bookmark sync, when I add a new bookmark or bookmark folder, it doesn't show in the bookmark menu. if I open show all bookmarks it is there in the 'Bookmarks' part of the tree, but they are not showing through in the Bookmarks menu part. I think that the problem is that iCloud is interfering, because they do show up on my iOS devices. It seems to me that iCloud is putting all new bookmarks in the portion of the database which relates to iOS/iCloud and is not keeping these in sync with the ones on my local mac.At the moment I have to remeber to open two windows, both open at the Show All Bookmarks page and manually copy the new iOS-friendly bookmarks into the local menu so that they appear there in the futiure, which is a pain to put it mildly.

I have a question for the the Safari geeks out here (1.1.1 version 100.1, running on MacOSX 10.3.2): I have imported my bookmarks from a Mozilla install on a Linux box, based on a hint I found here with the debug options (worked great!!!), and I have the following questions related to adding a new bookmark (based on the fact that my bookmarks are organized in multi-level folders, e.g. OperatingSystems->Linux->Security->Firewall, etc.):
- when opening Bookmarks->Add bookmark ..., how could I possibly collapse all the levels, so that I can easily scroll, and open/drill down into the appropriate level of bookmarks, without having to scroll thrrough all (by default) expanded levels? ... especially critical as some sub-categories may match names, with different higher level bookmarks, thus having to make sure I am where I want to be (e.g. I have a Security folder under OS->Mac, as I have one under OS->Linux, and I have to remember which one I am under, if the "parent" is out of the scrolling window);
- is there any easy way to add a new "level/folder", through Bookmarks->Add bookmark, at the time of salvaging a new one, vs. having to open the Bookmarks in a new window, adding the folder, then returning to add the new bookmark?
I hope the above makes sense ... I am probably hopeful - also - that people may have already run into this before

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm switching from Windows to Mac (I think). One frustration is that I imported my bookmarks from Internet Explorer into Safari. No problem there. But they are arranged alphabetically, which is of no use to me. I want to organize them with the ones I use most at the top, etc.
So I go to the place where you organize bookmarks and I can drag and drop bookmarks to any position on the list. But when I drag a folder of bookmarks I can't drop it between two other folders (so that it show up between the two). Instead, I can only put the folder inside one of the other folders.
So I've been searching the net and the solution people seem to offer is "drag the folder to the top of the list...". This is ridiculous. This would mean that I would have to plan strategically and first put the folder I want to be at the bottom, at the top, and proceed until lastly I place the one I want at the top. Of course if anywhere along the line I screw up, then I guess you start over again?
When I create a new folder in bookmarks, the name reverts back to "untitled folder". It first started happening when I'd name sub-folders. I'd keep renaming them, and finally they'd stick. Now I've got a main bookmark folder that I've renamed over and over and over and over .... it just won't stick. So I downloaded Safari again, thought that might fix it, but no.Â

All my folders had organized sub-folders containing hundreds of links before I downloaded Safari 4.0.3, with the viewable page version of bookmarks only the few "loose" pages can be seen. Where did all my original (subfolder filled) bookmarks go? Can I get them back?
Safari shows websites' names in the bookmark bar (instead of icons). They are all grey against a grey background, which is really uninspiring.
On PC it is possible to display websites icons (in their original colour). In fact the default mode is icon. Anyway to to do that on Safari / Mac?

When I click on the bookmark icon in Safari it does not show all the bookmark folders I have in my bookmarks drop down menu.

I've tried dragging and dropping the folders but that does nothing, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Safari (it just came back with all my bookmarks in exactly the same place), then I tried restoring Safari to factory settings but that did nothing either.
Sorry to be blunt i'm getting so frustrated trying to organise my bookmarks folders in Safari. The Folders keep snapping open and when i release click it drops the selected folder in the folder below and not in-between the two folders i want to order them in. I have turn off spring loaded folders. Also i can't seam to organise them alphabetically like you can with a right click option in windows.
Also how do i get the built in Google search to search [URL]

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have tried everything to get rid of dozens of duplicate Bookmarks Menu and Bookmark Bar folders in Safari's bookmarks. But despite everything as soon as they sync they all appear again. I am trying to syc two MacPros, MacBook Air, iPhone and iPad2. I phoned the helpline which worked at the time, by turning off synching, dumping all the User > Library > Safari folders then putting the same backup file from Time Machine onto all of them. Then turning on iCloud again. Until it all synched again causing the same problem. I have just tried all this again. I now have perhaps a hundred empty folders called Bookmarks Menu and Bookmark Bar. With .Mac and .Me this used to work perfectly. With iCloud it is a MESS.

I have a number of Bookmarks that I am wanting to organise. I have a Folder called Apple that I put all of my Apple related Bookmarks in. I am starting to get too many Bookmarks, and would like to put them in Sub folders INSIDE the Apple Folder. How to create Sub folders inside the Apple folder though. I am running Safari 5.1.4
View 2 Replies View RelatedSafari 5.1.7 under OS X 10.7.4 simply refuses to let me rearrange folders within the Bookmarks Menu. I use Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks and select Bookmarks Menu in the sidear. If I now drag and drop a folder within that menu, it just pops right back to where it was before. I've tried all the methods I know:Â
(1) Drag com.apple.Safari.plist out of ~/Library/Preferences and restart Safari. Same problem.Â
(2) Use the app SafariSort [URL], which alphabetizes all the folders and their contents. But as soon as I now try to drag-and-drop a folder or a bookmark, the order of everything reverts to the original (unwanted) order. exactly, does Safari store the list of Bookmark Menu folders? I examined com.apple.Safari.plist in both the XCode plist editor and in a plain text editor, but I don't see them there. (And actually it's obvious that the bookmarks cannot be there, since after I remove com.apple.Safari.plist and restart Safari, the bookmarks are back; where were they)

Selecting either Show All Bookmarks or Show All History brings up only totally blank tabs labeled bookmarks:// in both cases, not the familiar window where one can organize and edit Bookmarks and view and search History.
Have already repeatedly trashed the Bookmarks.plist and the History.plist, as well as com.apple.Safari.plist in my user Library. (There are corresponding files in my root level Library. Also Repaired Permissions and Verified disk.Â

When I hit Bookmarks>show all Bookmarks, I get a fast visual 'flash' but the Bookmarks window does not appear, and an accompanying change in the bookmark icon in the bookmarks bar. When I again return to Bookmarks, rather than 'show all Bookmarks' I find 'hide all Bookmarks,' but other than the flash and the change from 'show' to 'hide' no bookmarks list has appeared. On the second attempt, I get the spinning beach ball, then Safari hangs, and the icon in the dock no longer shows 'quit' but 'force quit.' Running 2008 MacBook and Snow Leopard.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a bookmarked a reputable company for easy access.Log-in icon, easy and secure, no problems.Weeks ago, I entered a wrong password, and a page stating "error" appeared. log-in was successful when reset and again, secure, and safe.
Now this page is still appearing any time I press the log-in button to access the secure logging in page, when I go to bookmark. OK, I removed the whole bookmark from safari, accessed the general web site of the company, and whenever I try to access the log-in page, (not even bookmarked!) I immediately get the same error page!, again and again, without even entering any data or user name or attempted password. This "error" page must have been stored somewhere on my MBA.How can I remove this and start a fresh bookmark?
After using Firefox and many others on the Mac, it's now my default browser. It's the only browser that's in the dock, actually. But I have a complaint about it.On a MacBook, the screen isn't wide enough for all of my bookmarks to show up in the bookmarks bar. View 24 Replies View RelatedI was in the organize bookmark place when i made the folder and i started dragging some bookmarks into the S folder, one at a time since it would not let me do more. Then, just as things were going according to plan, i had some bookmarks I could not drag into the folder no matter how many different ways i tried. and then to my surprise, this folder named "S" was not on the bookmark menu, even though that's where i created it to be. the folder still shows up when i go to organize but I want it to show up where all my other bookmarks are. I also want to be able to put those other links in the folder.
I have bookmark folders in toolbar. Up until recently I could "bookmark" and place the bookmark into one of the folders on the toolbar. Now the drop down choice is limited to 5 folders. I now save to unsorted then drag to the desired folder which is on the toolbar.
Is there a way to display all the folders in the drop down window instead of a few that are there now?
Maybe I have too many folders on the toolbar or?
I'm having a problem bookmarking with my new IMac desktop. The bookmark bar shows only a few default bookmarks, like Apple. Yahoo, Wikipedia, and You Tube. When I a press Add Bookmark to add new ones, nothing show. When I hit "show all bookmarks" it gives me my complete history, not just sites I want to bookmark. Proper buttons seem to be selected under Safari preferences.

After my recovery drive went missing and trying to reinstall it, had to do a format of my hard drive and reinstall everything once I got OS X reinstalled and up-to-date, I tried to import my bookmarks from a backup bookmarks file, when I quit safari and re-open safari bookmarks were missing and default ones back in place. When searching though the forums for how to fix this problem but too know unluck they did not work.
