ITunes :: Possible To Arrange Music Library Into Folders
Apr 17, 2010I am just learning about Itunes. Is it possible to arrange the music library into folders to make it easier to find songs to put on playlists.

View 2 RepliesHow do I go about arranging all folders by kind? Whenever I goto view options and select "use as defaults", it only applies to that folder...not to all folders!! I have Snow Leopard
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get my applications folder to remember to arrange itself by name. I can change it while in the folder... but when I exit it and go back into it; it's reset to the way it was...
Also, upon completion of setting up my MBP, an error message occurred notifying me that something didn't complete or go through... however I can click somewhere in one of my folders to go back to it. Does anybody know what this is? I can't remember what it said earlier...
Finally... in Mail... is there a way to get rid of the "RSS feeds" thing? Also, I have an AOL account and I can't stand the fact that every time I open mail a new subfolder appears called "Saved IM's"... why? I have never used it and keep deleting it. Also... now there's "mailboxes" with just inbox, sent, and trash.... which is nice but then also my email address has its own menu under it?
I have done too much to itunes. I have both wav files from recorded records and burned cds. To make my life easy and to fit all this music on my ipod. I want to start over on MBP and convert Wav files to mp3.
How do you creat a new itunes library and convert the wav to mp3?

Recently my buddy's macbook pro died. When we realized it was on it's way out, we moved his itunes library to an external hard drive. We had to consolidate it a couple times to get everything. We setup his new macbook pro to look at the external drive for his itunes library.
However, the new macbook pro is still storing music files locally (the external drive is always plugged in). I did a consolidation last night and noticed something weird. It's not jsut looking for the files that arent in the itunes library on the external drive and adding them, it is making full copies of the itunes libraries on the external drive. So, that means that my buddy has about 4 of each song in his itunes library folders (only one copy of the song shows up in itunes itself). So his Dave Matthews folder will show the album Crash as it's own folder, but within that folder there will be four copies of each song that is on the album.
Can one itunes library.itl file be used for music in two different itunes media files? I have an Air. Want to have music in MP3 format on the Air and the same music in Lossless format on a large external HD. Would like same playlists etc for both types. Lossless takes up too much room on the Air but for playing tunes on the road, MP3 is fine. Want to keep same music as Lossless for archiving and for playing on very good speakers at times; would be kept on the external HD. Would like to have the same playlists, ratings, etc., for music that is in both MP3 and Lossless format. For example, rating Dylan's Blood on the Tracks album as a 5 for both the tracks that are in MP3 format (that live on the Air) and the same tracks in Lossless format (that reside on the external HD). I realize I could have separate iTunes folders on the Air and the Ext HD but then would have to duplicate all the data on playlists, ratings, etc. for the two independent iTunes folders.Â

My iTunes folder is in /Louis/Music/iTunes, but for some reason iTunes keeps creating a separate folder /Macintosh HD/Music and dumping a few songs by a few different artists there. I've tried 'consolidating' the library twice, deleting the songs from iTunes and re-adding them. I have the 'keep iTunes music folder organized' option as well as the 'copy files into iTunes folder' options checked. Nothing works. What is wrong? It makes absolutely no sense why it would create it's own random folder and dump the songs there.
View 15 Replies View Relatedi downloaded a virus scanner for mac and found 18 trojans. so i deleted them and now all of my bookmarks and all of my music and folders in itunes have been deleted.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I go into my iTunes folder (on windows ) all of my music folders are empty. There is an artist folder and an album folder for all my music but each one appears empty.
When I right click on the main iTunes folder it tells me that I have 26gB of stuff so it must be there somewhere (and I haven't set them to be hidden files). When I am using iTunes and go onto 'Get Info' for a song, it tells me that it is in the iTunes folder. Also, when I search for a specific song title in Windows, the file is shown.
Was wondering if anyone else was having this problem or knows of how to rectify it.
I have somehow managed to end up with iTunes splitting music between folders ( was not me honest ! ).Â
I have two Music folders within the same path.....A lot of my CD's now mysteriously have music split between two folders e.g. a single CD has Tracks 1,2,3 in one Music folder and track 4,5,6,7 is split in the other Music folder.....the same Album name exists in both locations but tracks are split between.  iTunes / Preferences / Advanced - "Media Folder Location" = /Volumes/Safe/160GB iTunes Folder/iTunes/Music/One level below this iTunes Media Folder Location structure there is another Music folder = /Volumes/Safe/160GB iTunes Folder/iTunes/Music/Music          *** I can only play songs using iTunes that point to this Red music folder location ***Â
I have the following checked ( enabled ) :Â "Keep iTunes Media folder organised""Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to Library"Â
I have ran from "File" / "Library" / "Organize Library" Menu the :Â "Consolidate files"Â "Reorganise files in the music folder" can't be run as it's greyed outÂ
how do I merge back CD Tracks that have been split across these folders ? Â

move iTunes folders/library and all my music from the internal hard drive to an external one? I want to start using an external hard disk as my source of music for iTunes. I'm running tiger 10.4.11 still.

I copied my cousin's itunes music folder onto my external hard drive so I could add it to my own.
I dragged the artists into my iTunes music folder.
I was asked whether I wanted to replace existing folders... e.g we both had "Arctic Monkeys" folders.
I CLICKED REPACE ALL... What a mistake.
I'm very much into music and I have lots of songs, whereas my cousin only had a small library.
Now, my "Arctic Monkeys" folder only has a few songs in that she had, and i've lost loads from my library from many artists that both of us had.
I have a lot of TV series that I have ripped into ipad compatible format. I want to be able to put them into a folder like a playlist for movies so I don't have to scroll forever to find them. If I need to use genre how do I tag the movies so they get sorted?

I have a new-to-me MacBook (running Lion) and I just downloaded all my music into iTunes. I had been sync'd with an old PC laptop previously. If I choose to sync my iPhone (4S) with iTunes on the MacBook, will it delete my apps and data (as the warning in iTunes leads me to believe)? I do use iCloud backup on the iPhone, and I've got all kinds of apps installed (and arranged to my liking). What's the best way to have my music sync with the MacBook without having to reinstall my apps?Â

On itunes, I have my account/library and my wife has hers. For some reason her library disappeared. Her folder is still in the music folder along with mine, but her music, apps will not show up in itunes and her account name also is gone when opening itunes with option c I can see both accounts and when I choose hers and itunes opens everything is blank if that makes sense.
She is afraid to do a sync because she is afraid she'll loose the apps, music and other items from her itouch. I don't want to mess with it because I'm nervous about messing my library up as well trying to restore hers. Is there anything I can do to get her library to load in itunes and not distrurb mine and resync her itouch and my iphone? I didn't see any answers to this specific 2nd account issue and I hope the description of the issue is clear.
I recently moved my itunes library from PC to a NAS to use with my new Mac. With the exception of a couple hiccups everything was fine. I then asked iTunes to copy all the music to my ipod and convert the tracks to 256mb (I have re-ripped my cd collection as lossless and chosen the option to replace existing copies of the songs which were lossy).Â
I have 264GB of music in my iTunes library but when I looked at my NAS just now I saw 540GB of music backed up!! I then looked in one folder and saw every song had been duplicated so songs were named things like "Song.m4a" and "Song1.m4a", but this hasn't happened in every album folder - of course I have way too many to go through them individually.Â
How I can stop it from continuing and most importantly how to clear all the duplicates from the folders on my NAS so it only holds the 264GB of music that the iTunes library displays.Â

i successfully rerouted iTunes so that the program would find my music library on external hard drive. Two days ago, my Apple MacBook computer was updated to the Lion operating system. iTunes was also updated. Now I have to go back into iTunes and give the program new instruction to go find the music files on external hard drive. My folder on external hard drive, called "iTunes Music," contains various music files and also, I notice, a folder called "iTunes." Within that "iTunes" folder, the following folders or files are located: [code] I do not understand any of this. I do not understand WHICH FILE OR FOLDER I should instruct iTunes to go to in order to find the desired music files.Once the desired files are found, they should appear in the iTunes window on screen. This is not happening.
I have tried holding down the Option key while starting iTunes, which yields a window that asks for me to CHOOSE LIBRARY. I choose the iTunes library file ( iTunes Library.itl) that is located on external hard drive. However, NOTHING HAPPENS. iTunes does not do anything. When the program opens, nothing is visible in the iTunes window, where normally songs are listed. No playlists on the lefthand side. NOTHING.
I have a folder full of mp3 files that are organized in the way that I defined. I'd like to import to iTunes maintaining the same organization. I thought about creating Playlist folders using the same structure of my files. Is there some way of creating this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedTried updating from iTunes 10.5 to 10.6, no luck. Restarted computer, no luck. The problem is not with the MP3s, I've checked and absolutely nothing will add to my iTunes library.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOriginally this mac was my sisters, but she gave it to me once she got a new mac. I wanted to put my own music onto the iTunes library, but it will only keep hers for some reason. I tried signing in on iTunes but it only signs into the store, not the library.

IÂ have just bought a MacBook air and am trying to copy the music files from my old windows pc onto the new pc. I have used drag+drop and by using the add to library instruction from the file drop down. I can see the folders and files in finder but they do not appear in inlayer under the music folder. This folder is empty but I have transferred purchased music from an ipod which is visible and playable. To confuse things further, all my applications have been moved over?

How do i safely import my itunes music liberary from my old windows computer to my new mac? Homesharing doesn't work for me. I do have my complete liberary on my old windows computer as well as on my Ipod.

1) Up until today (6/8/12) my purchases would show up in my library after downloading. After purchasing some songs today, I did not see them in the library, but I did find them under 'Purchases'. And the little iCloud icon seems to be 'working'. I have the most recent iTunes (10.6.1), scanned for viruses, and haven't been doing anything differently. I am using a 13" MacBook Pro (early 2011) with Lion v10.7.4 installed.
2) iTunes usually shows a song as 'Purchased' in the Store if you already downloaded it (I assume to prevent duplicate downloading). But a few minutes after purchasing some music, the Store still shows it as available for purchase.
The only thing I have done recently is clean out some cache files in my browser (using Intego). Could this be the culprit? If so, how do I remedy these issues?

I've been reading dozens of different questions and answers on this forum in regards to this topic However, none of them are speaking directly to what I am trying to accomplish.I recently moved my iTunes library from my internal hard drive to an external hard drive. The transition was fine. (I did have this same problem described below in the beginning. However, it solved itself somehow when I sent it to locate the files.) It was a temporary fix. I needed to upgrade my internal hard drive but until I did that I wanted to be able to add more music or movies etc. I recently installed my new internal hard drive. I cloned my old internal hard drive and the transition was relatively smooth However, today when I moved my iTunes library from my external (temporary) hard drive to my new internal hard drive I came upon a problem.
Every time I double click on a song it says:
I then have to go into my files and find the song. (Which is no big deal for one song, but for over 3300 songs? Doesn't sound like a good time.

It seems like every time I update my music library (i.e. add ratings and such), it resorts to the default the next day (i.e. ratings are lost and changes are restored). why iTunes won't let me make changes in my music library?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I recently just got my MacBook Pro in mail yesterday. The first thing I wanted to do was to transfer my itunes music/library from my PC to my new Mac so that I kept all my playlists and count numbers and etc. I watch the video on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cyy993m1nPo) of david kadavy showing how to do it but however he does it from one mac to another.
I have a PC and I did everything he did correctly. When I tried to import my library.xml file it said "not all files were able to be transferred because they may not exist". So can anybody help me transfer my library from my PC to my Mac? BTW both of my iTunes on my PC and Mac were up to date.
I wanted to know how do i back up my mp3's from itunes library, I currently have 12.83 GB worth of songs. Do I use a external hd or is a flash drive good enough? Just in case when the world ends in 2012 and all the computers fail ill still have my music with me
