OS X Yosemite :: How To Enable A Disabled Admin Account
Dec 11, 2014
I was testing the pwpolicy on a newly upgraded Yosemite. After rebooting, I found my local admin account was disabled.
I ran the pwpolicy on a non-server version of Yosemite and the only support article I could find is OS X Server (Yosemite): Global policies can lock out Admin accounts - Apple Support. I tried to follow the steps in the article to clear the account policies for local admin, but once I entered "/usr/bin/pwpolicy -n /Local/Default clearaccountpolicies", the system seemed hanging there and the local admin account was still disable.
Actually once I used launchctl to load the com.apple.opendirectoryd.plist, the system started to show signs not working properly, such as some basic commands like ps, dscl, man, nano, or even ls stopping to bring up any results. However, "launchctl list" showed the daemon was launched with a number of 78.
I tried to create new admin user account by rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone, but the new admin account was disabled possibly immediately after birth because of the global policy settings.
When I booted up my computer this morning, I realized that the volume icon in the menu bar was missing. I tried to adjust the volume with the keyboard, but an icon came up that makes it seem like it's locked. I went into System Preferences and under Sound, the computer doesn't seem to find the speakers for output or the internal microphone and line-in for input. Has anyone else had this problem?
I am prakash from India and I have a friend who works as a network administrator in a company. He knows the way to disable audio drive. now he has disabled my I mac OS X V 10.5.6 Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Can anyone tell me the method to re-enable it?
I had a brainfart earlier, and cleaned my keyboard while my computer was in standby instead of turned off. The result is that by wiping off the keyboard, I hit a ton of keys, causing a lot of bad things to happen to the desktop.
I've had my apple Id disabled due to security reasons. Do I have to create a new apple id? Will I lose all of my iTunes and data if I have to change my apple I'd to a new one since the app store will no longer recognize my apple Id?
I think I need it to play Yahoo games. I went to Safari Preferences and checked Enable Java. (Enable JavaScript was already checked.) But when I click on a Yahoo game, the page loads, yet the game doesn’t appear. I thought I could just enable Java when I wanted to play, then disable it when I wasn't. Obviously this isn’t urgent, but if there’s an easy and safe way to play, I’d like to know.
i just recently got a keyboard i had back and plugged it in with a mouse i typically use all the time. when the keyboard was plugged in i got the typical message for "USB device drawing too much power, has been disabled…" i just want to re enable the mouse. it was quite obvious it was the combination of BOTH devices that caused this, but i'd really like to just get the mouse working again. I've Tried Resetting the SMC and ran the diagnostic but nothing has worked.
A freshly created account under 10.7.4. is a Admin account by default. The checkbox "Allow user to administer this computer" is grayed out. I end up with an Admin account and there is no way to convert this account into a Standard account. Facts: 10.7.4 - clean install on a current iMac i5 Freshly created account uses name of a deleted older account (my name)Repaired permissions several times (disk utility and "resetpassword utility" via terminal and safe boot)The older account had been relocated to a external disc for security reasons. There the access rights got corrupted so that I wanted to freshly create a new account and copy all files from a backup. how to create a new account for me?
I created a new admin account, and now I need to get all folders like Music, Documents, Video etc from old admin account. So, if I loged in as a new admin I see all folders with red sign in the coner and don't have permistion to see them or move. What are my options?
I do have Time Machine backup from old admin account, but it also doesn't let me open folders from the new admin.

I woke up and tried to update my iphone and my ipad and both are telling me this. I then went to iforgot and reset my password and it still is saying the same thing. Is there a step I forgot? I have no idea what triggered this.
About 2 weeks ago, I was contacted by Discover that my account had apparently been breached. Someone had charged over $100.00 worth of stuff to iTunes.
I went into itunes, changed my password, changed to Mastercard, and was able to purchase things for a couple of days. Now I get the message that my id has been disabled.
I use some of my apps in my work, and I can't update them. I can't buy music. I can't do ANYTHING. I am disabled and try to do some work from home. I need these apps working.
I thought that someone had hacked my itunes account and bought a few apps so I told Apple and they disabled my account. I just found out that it was my Mom who bought the apps in the first place without telling me! How do I get my account to work again?
I purchased a new iMac and believed it b be compromised after a few weeks use and it was remotely wiped but the password was not kept or remembered. Currently there is a grey screen with a 4 digit box and a red sentence that says it is disabled try again in 60 minutes...I took the machine to an apple reseller and they couldn't do anything , there is no apple store near where I live. Can this machine be made to work again or is it useless.

I am getting that message. I reset my password and still get the message. It will let me into my account and let me change my settings but whenever I try to buy a song i get that message. I emailed them but wont get a response till at least tomorrow.
ITunes keeps giving me the message "account disabled for security reasons". Each time I have to verify the account - any idea why this keeps happening - even changed my password but it still happens - I am the only one using this account - it is happening most with app updates -
given the disaster with FileVault 1 under 10.7.3 (passwords logged in plaintext in secure.log...) I changed my laptop to FileVault 2. But now I can't enable a guest account anymore. Have I lost the guest account on this system?
I just noticed that on my login screen, "Guest" appears even though it is disabled. I have not tried to run it, but when I do click on it I get the message that the computer will reboot into the "Guest" mode. I stopped at that point. This can't be normal.

Is there a way to making certain settings in the guest account permanent? For example, I would like the setting where you tap the trackpad to click (tap to click) to be permanently enabled. How do I do this?
