OS X :: No Sound (Disabled) In 10.5 - How To Enable
Oct 31, 2007
When I booted up my computer this morning, I realized that the volume icon in the menu bar was missing. I tried to adjust the volume with the keyboard, but an icon came up that makes it seem like it's locked. I went into System Preferences and under Sound, the computer doesn't seem to find the speakers for output or the internal microphone and line-in for input. Has anyone else had this problem?

I had a brainfart earlier, and cleaned my keyboard while my computer was in standby instead of turned off. The result is that by wiping off the keyboard, I hit a ton of keys, causing a lot of bad things to happen to the desktop.

I was testing the pwpolicy on a newly upgraded Yosemite. After rebooting, I found my local admin account was disabled.
I ran the pwpolicy on a non-server version of Yosemite and the only support article I could find is OS X Server (Yosemite): Global policies can lock out Admin accounts - Apple Support. I tried to follow the steps in the article to clear the account policies for local admin, but once I entered "/usr/bin/pwpolicy -n /Local/Default clearaccountpolicies", the system seemed hanging there and the local admin account was still disable.
Actually once I used launchctl to load the com.apple.opendirectoryd.plist, the system started to show signs not working properly, such as some basic commands like ps, dscl, man, nano, or even ls stopping to bring up any results. However, "launchctl list" showed the daemon was launched with a number of 78.
I tried to create new admin user account by rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone, but the new admin account was disabled possibly immediately after birth because of the global policy settings.

I think I need it to play Yahoo games. I went to Safari Preferences and checked Enable Java. (Enable JavaScript was already checked.) But when I click on a Yahoo game, the page loads, yet the game doesn’t appear. I thought I could just enable Java when I wanted to play, then disable it when I wasn't. Obviously this isn’t urgent, but if there’s an easy and safe way to play, I’d like to know.

i just recently got a keyboard i had back and plugged it in with a mouse i typically use all the time. when the keyboard was plugged in i got the typical message for "USB device drawing too much power, has been disabled…" i just want to re enable the mouse. it was quite obvious it was the combination of BOTH devices that caused this, but i'd really like to just get the mouse working again. I've Tried Resetting the SMC and ran the diagnostic but nothing has worked.

is possible to enable 5.1 surround sound in OS X. I just bought the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Speaker System and I have a mini-toss link optical audio cable plugged in. The optical connection is working fine but whenever i play ANY audio (iTunes, system sounds, youtube, or games) its always in Stero.. never 5.1. I understand most of that stuff isn't setup for 5.1 but the thing I am really wanting 5.1 for, World of Warcraft and the few other games I play in OS X

This morning when I plugged in my MagSafe Power Adapter to my MacBook Pro, I heard a 'pop' sound. It sounded like fuse going or something. Then I noticed that the Green light was not turning on, nor was the Amber light. I then unplugged everything and let it sit there for about 30 seconds and then plugged everything back in. The Green light then turned on and the MBP recognized it as a power source. The question is should I be worried? AppleCare expires for me in December of this year.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a fix for my iMac 21.5" which seems to disable the onboard sound upon restarting?
I understand that this can be remedied by resetting the SMC but I cannot be expected to do this each and every time the machine is restarted. Is there any way I can get it to work permanently?
Upon restarting the volume icon is greyed out, and pressing the volume up/down keys bring up the volume box with a "no entry" sign underneath the icon. I've tried unplugging and replugging the external speakers to no avail, and this occurs with the internal speakers also. I've checked the correct device is selected in the volume settings and the optical output is not switched on.

So as the title says when I boot up my iMac, on occasion, it seems to have the "Updating" Status bar, then the mac boots normally, then the sound is disabled. As I said though this dose not happed all the time but when it dose the only way to fix it is by rebooting the iMac once again. When I get my Imac, tomorrow, I'll be putting Photoshop Lightroom and Photoshop Elements on it. I've been using Elements as an organizer and for editing/projects for years and I like it very much. Lightroom will be my advanced photo exposure editor. I'm a PC person, so I'll be feeling my way around the Mac for awhile.

When I try to make a purchase in iTunes, I get a message saying my Apple ID is disabled.Resetting my password does not eliminate this error message.Changing the payment method associated with my Apple ID from "None" to a valid payment method does not eliminate this error message. This problem occurred because someone used my Apple ID to make unauthorized In-App purchases totaling $39.96 USD. Apple support refunded me the amount. But now my Apple ID is disabled. The message does not state the reason for it being disabled. The message does not state that the ID is disabled due to security reasons. It just says that it is disabled.
