View 13 Replies View RelatedI bought this new MacBook Pro a month ago. When I try logging into my guest account, it froze. I had no other alternative but to get out of it by pressing the power button. Then I tried open a new user account to see if it also has the same problem. Unfortunately it did have the same problem - froze after I logged in. I had done a harddisk check, there seemed to be no problem.

I just reinstalled Mac OS X in my mac mini - new hard drive (320GB) and I wanted to try the FileVault feature for once.... but I get a message saying that my home folder is not in a Mac Extended FS.
I checked the Disk Utility and I have only 1 partition formatted with Mac Extended FS (Case Sensitive).
Is there a special setup to enable FileVault? (I'm new to this stuff)
I'm now unable to log in to an account, I get the following error: You are unable to log in to the Filevault user account ___ at this time. Log in in failed because an error occurred. I know my password is correct btw. This is an account on a partition on the drive of a Macbook Pro.

I just used Migration Assistant to move my files from my iMac to my new Macbook Pro. I didn't know about the Filevault problem so when I tried logging in, I got the error message and I am unable to login to my account (the only one on the computer). The support page says to make a root user, but how can I do that when I can't even log in to my account. I dont have a disc copy of Lion I can use to start up with, only a copy of 10.6.

I would like to be able to configure what applications start when it's logged on using the guest account. For normal accounts you would use the login items option in Users and Groups but this option is not available for the Guest user.Â

Ok so i installed new software onto my mac then it told me to restart so i did. When it ran up again it gave me the log in screen so I logged in and typed my password in. Then it just gives me the default background and a cursor. I can log in on my other two accounts but all of my data is on the account I cant log in on! View 1 Replies View RelatedI really like the guest account feature that Leopard (and I'm assuming Snow Leopard) provides. I just got my first Macbook Pro, about a year old running Leopard, part of a client deal (you Mac people just got another application developer interested ). I am getting rid of a few of my other computers on craigslist in the coming weeks and my girlfriend always wants to check her facebook. I'd prefer not to have her accidentally close something important so I setup & configured the guest account. I installed the server admin tools to fully customize the dock/etc.
Two questions however:
1: Thus far the guest account cannot access HTTPS (secure sites) websites. Not in Safari or Google Chrome. I've tried googling for about 30 minutes and have come up blank.
2: Without overwriting the default profile setup (incase I ever want to create new profiles). Is there a way to set a few default things for the Guest user? For instance, I know it wipes everything on close. I want it to remember that Google Chrome & Safari have run before (annoying that it asks "do you want this to be the default browser?. Or running the initial safari video).

After creating a guest account I noticed that anyone uses that account can use my (remembered) secured network connection. Normally, in my network settings, remembering used networks option is checked. When I look into the keychain, I see two entries for my network name. One is in my logins section and the other is in the system section. I suppose, the guest uses the entry which is in the system section. If I delete the entry which is in system section, it is been created again on next connection.
If I do not want any guest to use my network connection, I am having to cancel the remembering used network option and select disconnect on logging out option in airport advanced settings. But; if do this, I am having to select my network and type its password every time I login. I simply want if a guest uses the Guest Account, he wouldn't able to use my network connection without entering the correct password. Is it possible?
