Software :: Use Gmail And Safari As Default Email Reader
Jun 26, 2004
I signed up for a Gmail account about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I'm so impressed with it that I have made it my primary email account. My only problem comes when Iclick links from Safari or Adium where the link is an email address. I would LOVE for Safari to open to the compose mail link of my Gmail account in a new tab, because as it stands now this just opens Mail.app. (I know I could just manually navigate to the compose mail page of Gmail, but, that's just no fun). Is this extremely wishful thinking, or somehow possible?
Why does the default email reader in Mail Preferences keep changing to Outllook after I set it to Mail 5.2 and then close the preference pane? The Default in Outlook is set as Mail 5.2.

Mail is not working properly in OSX10.10.1. I would like to revert to gmail as the default email viewer. I recently got a new hard drive which doesn't have chrome. If so can I use chrome for mail and safari for the web?
I'm trying to change the default program that opens PDF files in safari from preview to Adobe acrobat reader. I'm trying to do this because I prepare taxes and preview doesn't seem to fill in fields properly on forms such as
[URL]
In Adobe reader->Preferences->internet Display PDF in browser using Adobe Reader (9.3.1) is checked and beyond this I'm not sure what to do to change from preview to reader.
Installing the latest Adobe Reader causes Preview to be overwritten by Reader as the default PDF reader in Safari. There's a setting in Adobe Reader prefs that should aloow one to change the setting, but it is greyed out. You'll need to go to your HD/Library/Internet Plug-in folder and remove the Adobe plug-ins. Quit and restart Safari, then Preview is default again.
I'm running osx 10.6.4 and Adobe Reader is giving me fits. It doesn't play well. How do I change the default PDF reader from Adobe to Preview or iArchiver? Adobe Reader just grabs hold of the download and won't let go.
Running OS X 10.6.4 on MacBook Pro. From Reader (in Safari 5) unable to send email. Error message reads: An email message cant be created because Safari cant find an email application. Outside Safari, Apple Mail opens and works OK.
My new employer uses Gmail as there email serves. It is a Japanese company and when I log into Gmail, even using the translator, most of the controls and text is still in Japanese.Â
Can I use Safari (like I do with other accounts) to send and receive email via googles email servers?Â
I assume I need googles send and receive server info (IMAP or POP)? Â
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), email - Safari related

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the default email editor that launches when you click on an email link in Safari? I'd like for it to launch Gmail in a new window rather than launch Apple's Mail.
I've been able to do this in Firefox and would love to be able to do it with Safari.
I was looking for a Safari Reader-like add-on for Firefox and finally stumbled on Firefox Reader, which seems to have more customizations, and options. Has anyone else tried it? What are your impressions?
I have Apple Preview, Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro installed. I know you can set individual files to 'Open with..' but is the a way to set the overall default for all pdf files?
I recently experienced a glitch in which my web browser locked during a shutdown operation. I had just changed a browser preference setting to "empty cookies and history" when I quit the browser. I restored the preference to its previous setting and the browser quit locking up. However, I now have a new problem: I can't download .pdf files (maybe others as well but I was able to download an application file successfully). This problem occurs with both Safari and Firefox browsers.I was recently checking the performance of 2 .pdf readers and I am sure I changed the default reader. I cannot remember how to restore Preview to be the default reader. Maybe this will get me back in business.
I have already set the default application to open PDFs to Preview by using the "Open with..." and "Change All" option.Â
Now PDFs open in Preview, but I have a weird side effect:Â when I create a PDF (from Microsoft Word, etc.) the document is created with an Adobe Reader ICON, it then quickly changes to a Preview ICON (and opens in Preview).Â
PDFs are doing what I want, but the flash of Adobe Reader ICON (pun intended) is quite annoying. I have searched through the Adobe Reader Preferences and can find nothing that seems related.
At some point I changed the appearance of my PDF icons from the default red and white Adobe PDF image to where the PDF icons show a little image of the front cover of the PDF. Now I would like to change all of my PDF icons back to the default red and white Adobe Reader icon. Does anyone know how to do that please? I have Googled this and see instructions for how to change from the Adobe default to custom but can't figure out how to reverse that.
I'm trying to email a pdf in Adobe Reader 8.1.5 but when I go to File>Print>PDF button>Mail PDF, I get this strange message saying "saving a pdf file when printing is not supported. Instead choose File>Save" but I'm not trying to save anything, just email.
After I updated my software, Adobe Reader became my default pdf reader. How can I change it back to "Preview"?I tried printing a doc opened with Adobe acrobat and it just printed a solid page of black ink.
I am having a problem with my mail and gmail issues. I set up a gmail account a couple year ago, I recently bought a mac and set up my mail account with it. The problem i am having is the following When i send an email from gmail (on safari) i always get it sent to my mail window also It's not the end of the world but its really annoying Does any one know how to get rid of this?
I was wondering if there is a way to stop Mail from download 3 years worth of mail from my Gmail account, and just get the last few weeks or few months. I took the Gmail account offline in mail after the first 1000 messages or so. I went through all the Preferences options and menu option, but maybe I missed that setting.
I have gmail set up on my mac & iphone as IMAP. Works great, except for a weird deal whenever I send mail. After the email has been sent, if I go to trash, I'll find multiple copies of the sent email sitting there. I.E.- today I sent a single email(not a reply), and there were 16, yes 16 copies of that sent email in my trash. There was only one copy in the sent mail folder. It's a pain deleting all this stuff.
i know what by default, the mail downloaded through IMAP let you to keep it on the server marked as read. MAIL, when it recieves emails from gmail, deletes it definitively from server (it's not even in trash!). How do i stop that?
I use my Mac Mail to send my personal emails... However I also use it to monitor my work email. However, when I use my work Gmail account to send multiple messages either on my phone or on my computer through Gmail, whenever I go into mac Mail I have 40+ copies of the emails I sent. I tried to look in the setting if there's something that disables this.
I am running SL and the Gmail Notifier for Mac, and Firefox. Every time I click an email link in Firefox, instead of opening up a "compose mail" page in Gmail like it used to, recently I just get sent to an old-style HTML only Gmail page, as pictured below.
Anyone else experiencing this? it's getting pretty annoying that any time I click an email, I get sent to a useless Gmail page. I've tried googling the problem, but it never turns up results that are relevant.
My prob is that I have directed my gmail and my office mail address both to my mac mail. I get all the messages and my office account exists as well, but when I respond to a mail that came into my office account and I reply to it, my gmail address is seen as a sender address, not my office one. What can I do? I have already put my office email in the outgoing add. and the smtp field.
I'm using Mail with a gmail IMAP account. Recently a friend sent me an email with an Excel workbook attached, but the attachment didn't show up in Mail (no attachment in the message, no paperclip icon indicating an attachment in the Inbox). The really strange part is that if I go into my gmail account using a browser, the attachment is there. I received several other similar attachments from other people, and all those attachments showed up in Mail.
